Newcomer / Intro What are you up to?

Isn't there some kind of approval "group" somewhere that reviews names people give certain areas, systems or planets? How does that work? I always thought (in real life, anyway) that a discoverer of just about anything is allowed to name what they discovered.

I find it difficult enough to name my own ships! There is a thread for Memorial systems, I think.

Fortunately, FDEV decided to pre-name everything. Otherwise we'd have a galaxy full of stupid, rude, or obscene names.

I've seen what happens when players are allowed to name stuff. It is not pretty.
The power of the internet, eh? /facepalm

I'm wondering whether you need to drink & eat in EDO?

Been quiet for some while as I'm trying out the direct competitor of ED (again) recently, and just did a lulz noob event: I took of the helmet in station to drink, but forgotten to put it back on then I rushed out to the landing pad...... 🤦‍♀️
In my head canon, my commanders stuff themselves full, or go on holiday on a beautiful ELW every time I log out (If I am in inhabited space).
When flying, the suit supports all the physiological requirements without me having to bother about them!

The notion that the sci-fi life simulator is considered a direct competitor of ED always baffles me, but I suppose it's different strokes for different folks. 🤷‍♂️

I had one of those "boxes". It turned into a set of drawers and a cupboard. I did reduce it by creating "large carrier bags of wires, connectors, extensions, adaptors and plugs that must be kept in the garage".

The drawers and cupboard now only contain old expansion cards, old drives, external backups - yes, some on CD like Paint Shop Pro from 2005 - a few old computer games, a massive manual on Dreamweaver, manuals and so on.

And so on.

Mrs. Tyres thinks I need therapy due to excessive hoarding tendencies.

I say "you just wait until you need a 6mm to 3.5mm audio jack or a 3m ethernet cable..."

I get a blank look and feel smug.

So my alt account bought a T9 to get Elite in something, and its going to be trade. I have a rule about not having the same ships as my main account that has a Cutter for hauling. That rule got bent into, if I have the same ship, it's only allow if the ship is used in a different way. Main account uses a Phantom for exploration, alt account uses a Phantom built for speed and short combat to do "special operations" missions. I then broke the rule completely because I find it impossible to use anything other than an iCourier as a small fast ship for special operations missions done faster but excluding combat. The Cobra MKIII is the next best thing.

Trading in the T9 turns out to be more exciting than the Cutter. Now it matters that I evade interdictions, and it takes a bit of skill and action if I do get interdicted to escape the situation and make it to dock. The credits and trade rank are still rolling in. I'm warming more to the T9 than I did when Quain had one for a CG in Colonia a while back.

I sold my T9 the instant I got the Cutter.

I'm thinking of buying it back to make it a pure trader and leave my Cutter in full mining outfitting. Switching it over every time is a nuisance.

I did this, too, more or less. I have a T9 all set up and I used it for a couple years for trading and hauling tritium to the carrier. Eventually I got annoyed by how sluggish it was at avoiding interdictions. I usually won, but it took forever (I have a video somewhere of a 2 minute interdiction fight in my T9 -- painful to watch).

So in the end I bought a second Cutter (when they had that big discount a few months ago), and now I have a trading Cutter and a trading T9. I'm not sure I'll use the T9 again, but you never know, and it's all finished so I'll just keep it. :)

Both ships are fully armed and I don't really need to avoid interdictions, I can just stop and kill the pirates, but I'd rather just keep on trucking when I'm trading.

As The Pilot once said "Some people says it's a waste of a Cutter to take it mining, but I say it's bold to assume I use the same Cutter every time. It's important to have standards when you are Imperial royalty."
What you need is a second Cutter for trading 😛👍

I fitted my Cutter out for mining on my recent trip, but now I'm back I refitted it again for Armed Trading. I was thinking of buying a second one, but I think 512T in a miner is a bit overkill. I rarely came back with a quarter of that on a mining trip.

Don't tell anyone, but my favourite laser mining ship is a Python because it's manoeuvrable compared to the Cutter and I can fill the 224t cargo space in about 50 minutes and that's long enough for me in one trip.

Another weird plant, though I may have come across this one before.
