Newcomer / Intro What are you up to?

If one drives the SRV a lot (at least in EDH), there's no reason to not have most, if not all, raw materials at max... :)
That was geared towards the more newer players who don't have much and others who, like me, don't grind materials...

After playing for the past 2 years, I still have not maxed any/all of my rares...in some cases they're still at single digits...

The 2 Iron and 1 Nickel required by the basic SRV repair synthesis are plentiful (very common) and thus easiest to replenish...so multiple uses of basic synth are also much much cheaper, and easier to replace, than a single use of the premium synth, as it probably should be...

In what manner was the explosion obtained?

I find that when I'm out in the Scarab and my hull gets down to <40%, its time to repair. Unfortunately one bad move, like falling driving over the side of a cliff in the dark and 35% hull is not enough to reach the bottom in one piece...there have been several times I've had that one bad bounce with hull in the 30% range and it wasn't enough...it probably should be, but it isn't...
A guardian site the first time, got hit with rockets. Second time was 5000+ Ly from the bubble, whenever I'd recall my ship, it kept landing above the canyon I was in, after the umpteenth time I gave up and tried to drive to it, I didn't make it.

Ahh, the guardian sentinel missiles can be countered with a PDT.

Now that the missiles are back in the game that is...

I'm driving an Anaconda,
Oh, doh, I knew that. It's been quite some time since I explored in an Anaconda...years now.

I went out to the Zurara once in mine. That was a fun trip.

I had what at the time was very good range, about 50ly.

Nowadays I always have my carrier available, so I prefer zipping around in the DBX. It's easy to land, and I've just always liked the ship.

There was a time when all I could afford was a C-rated DBX. It was a fun time for me.

From what I've read it was one of the preferred exploration ships and one of the oldest in the game before carriers became available, I well get a carrier eventually, but I want to do it old school for a bit. A lot more danger involved as you know not having a mobile home base at hand. Besides, I still haven't mined a single rock yet and I would have to learn a whole new trade just to be able to refuel it in the black, so I'm going to need to learn how to do that.

After reading you get 73 LY out of it, I'm thinking of picking one up. I love my Krait Phantom for that same reason - it's easy to park and also easy to zip along the surface looking for the life forms, but I've got it maxed out at around 66 LY. The Anaconda isn't the most handling friendly ship out there. At all.

From your post the other day regarding your position, I gather you are close to where that first Green Gas Giant was found, and then lost for seven years and then found again recently, as in just last week.

If it's long distance exploring, it's the Krait Phantom for Quain and Asp X for my alt account who doesn't do much exploration - just the trip to Colonia for engineers.
If I want to go up to around 1000ly, the DBX comes out to play. Mine does about 65ly, but it's not optimised for jump range - 4A thrusters, 4D power distributor and 4A power plant plus 3A shields and a heavy duty 0A shield booster which weighs 14t. The loss of 8ly jump range doesn't make a lot of difference for up to 1000ly.

No, but it has other redeeming qualities. The 'conda was my main ship for a very long time. It's just very versatile, and I was able to get at least 50LY jump range in a multi-role ship. There were no Kraits, back then. Anyway, I still love the ship, and still own 2 of them.

Don't rush it. It's certainly nice to have one, but it's also expensive, with constant upkeep and management. I'm glad they didn't exist when I was coming up through the game.

In fact, thinking back, I was lucky to join the game before engineering, too. For me, everything has been a slow progression and I didn't have to learn it all at once :)

Just as an FYI, that double-engineered 5A FSD will add a few more LY to your build, assuming you don't have one yet.
I don't have one, I have six of them :ROFLMAO:
I added a new one to my collection only yesterday as I've finally decided to rebuy and keep a Python for medium landing pad cargo transport. I want to sell minerals for the best price even if it means more trips to the market as I can haul between carrier and outpost while I'm doing something else, so it doesn't matter if it takes more time.

My DBX jump range isn't that high as it's outfitted to be a materials collector at HGE sites, Guardian ruins (if I ever do this again), and Odyssey ground "activity" where I might want to shoot ground troops with dumb fire missiles and have reasonable shield strength to take their fire. Today it's outfitted for scouting out different mining locations up to 1000ly from the bubble, so the 3C Operations Multi limpet controller and a class 4 cargo is removed and Guardian FSD booster is added and the rest left the same giving me a 65.56ly unladen jump range (when you edit Coriolis FSD optimal mass to 1856.4 which never works in a shortlink). Oh yeah, sensors are grade 3 long range and life support only grade 2 light weight and 491 m/s boost. I used to do black box and similar collection missions in it, but that is done with the iCourier these days.
