Newcomer / Intro What are you up to?

It was a CG reward from back before I was playing the game. The class 5 size is now available from Human Technology brokers present in many stations. It costs you materials. Once unlocked, it's available in stored modules at the station and you can fit it to your ship. Felicity or Elvira can then add mass manager to it.

Unlocking requires the following Materials:

18 Datamined Wake Exceptions
26 Tellurium
26 Electrochemical Arrays
28 Chemical Processors
Any Human Tech Broker will do...

EDIT: Oops, ninja'd, but I blame the power blip that cause my PC to shut down...
Okay, are they stackable with the Guardian FSD booster?

If I adjust the optimal mass figure on that for the Engineered V1 FSD with mass manager the unladen jump range (what you can actually expect to get) is 70.74ly. Only thing missing here is an AFMU to repair your FSD if you want to do lots of neutron star FSD boosts - a 3A is good enough.
If you keep SRV bay, cargo hatch and AFMU powered off when not in use a 3A power plant works too - even with grade 2 low emissions engineering.

I'm not anal enough to aggravate myself turning things on and off to keep a ship running for a minimal gain. That's like people that complain the Anaconda is the worst handling explorer ship and horrible to fly after they put grade 3 engines on it and other things so restrictive to squeeze out 77 LY. Mine has 73 LY range and flys pretty well for a big ship.

I'll eat a few LY range for more quality of life ship components for sure.

The DBX is a splendidly capable ship for exploration and even more so for acquiring stuff from Guardian sites.
I am out exploring and hunting Codex entries in a new sector at the moment in mine, unfortunately.

The thing with exploration is you tend to be in the same ship for a long time so it is best to consider how much you like being in the ship at least as much as the ships performance and I don’t enjoy the DBX, unfortunately I was feeling poorly when I set off and wasn’t thinking much.

I think we could spin this into a Saud Kruger advert

I underlined what I think are the key sound bytes

From your post the other day regarding your position, I gather you are close to where that first Green Gas Giant was found, and then lost for seven years and then found again recently, as in just last week.

I remember when that expedition was forming up, I posted in the thread and was invited to go, I was still ranking in combat back in Colonia. I'm getting close to the center of The Fallows, when I logged out yesterday, I had only three stars in range all in the wrong direction (104Ly with FSD boost). I think I'm going to move higher, back up into the galactic plane.

Ahhh, well shyeet, I gotta have one. What's a grade 5 range increase for say an Anny?
Engineered FSD V1 is only available from the human tech broker in size class 5. So it goes in DBX, Asp X, Phantom, Python, Orca etc.
I do have a class 6 version in my Anaconda which was a reward for contribution to the Colonia Bridge community goal at the beginning of this year. You can't get this right now.

Dang it, that's what I asked in the beginning, guess I should have clarified. Aw well...:(

Edit: I aint giving up my annie. I saw a screen shot of the beginning of that expedition, it made me feel all warm and fuzzy inside, 3/4 of the ships were Anaconda's

The Conda is a fine spaceship. I've had several, both for mining, bounty hunting and core mining. However the one I used most was a "Jumpaconda" build, because ~75 ly per jump is fast when travelling, but a Phantom or (yes I know) an AspX is a lot more agile for exploration on planets, and with a pre engineered FSD and mass manager they get a jump range very similar to the Conda. Personally I was fed up with the AspX for a while, after using it a lot, but fully engineered, it's a pretty decent explorer, and it's one of my five favorite ships. And in VR it's got a great view from the bridge! :alien:

Even without a pre-engineered (aka double engineered) FSD, the Anaconda still has the highest jump range in the game.

I have a Krait Mk II and love it, but I was really struggling to get the jump range up with my Anaconda, I use it for bounty hunting, I enjoy that ship a lot too.

I have a friend who circumnavigated the galaxy in a DBX over the course of about 9 months...he is my hero...
I kid you not, there is one commander who did this every Autumn I think for every year the game has been out, except for last Autumn as he was hosting a 6 month long ELW hunting expedition. From his Inara profile it looks like he finally retired from the game in March. He did the trip in Asp Xs once or twice and used a DBX the rest of the time.
Look up the Inara top tens and you'll see his record.

I get the distinct feeling that you're talking about something I know nothing about.

Again. ;)

I remember reading a very old thread where a guy did it in a sidey. Have you ever seen those uTube video's "Sidey vs the galaxy"? OMG, they are so flippen hilarious, I just remembered that.
Oh, he is my hero because he is my friend in real life AND he did that. All these other players who've ever done it are amazing too but I've only heard of them...that guy I actually know...and I was on the other end of voice chat with him during most of his trek...

After he got back to the bubble, he bought a fleet carrier, did a couple of missions and some mining and then hasn't played since...

There were three of us that played together for many months but I'm the only one left...

I had a game like that once. Grand Prix Legends. There were 12 of us. I'm the only one that is still alive. The rest are all gone now.

My son is named after one of them that lived in South Africa. Greatest race ever run was one year, I think it was 1999, we were nose to tail for 29 laps at Kyalami; he in his beloved Ferrari 312 and me in my Eagle Westlake.

I blew my engine just as I passed him on the front straight with 3 laps to go.

Oh, that sucks, on many levels...
