I wonder if there's anything in the journal files that indicates FA being turned on and off. If so you'd know from that, maybe.

According to trying it just now, it does not make a journal line entry but it changes the value of Flags in the Status.json file, sixth bit or in decimal it goes up and down by 32.
Meanwhile back in space, I'm about 2/3 the way to a visit at Lagoon nebula, en route* to Smojai sector. The tricked out Orca satisfies!
*I guess it's a bit past and back, but it's still my route!

I landed on a small moon with a water atmosphere (that's what it said) with some familiar life forms, the sky looked right at home.

Big thank you to Ikaros in FDev support for saying they'd recover my lost scan data (this time, at least)!
The individual exobiology scans are lost forever, but they can put the sum total into my Exobiology rank, which I'm totally happy with.
I'll be heading back to the bubble as soon as I get home then - without any more stops on cursed planets of mysterious death.
...might log in to Horizons first. Hopefully that'll park me in orbit so's I don't have to risk the same ascent profile twice!

I've found - admittedly just a couple of times - FDev to be pretty damn good when it comes to this kind of support.
The single most rewarding exploration activity I've done in the game was going into the Abyss to find Far Oasis and Hidden Abyssimal Treasures where most jumps need a level 3 FSD injection just to reach the next star, for 30 to 40 jumps to get in and out. I did this without selling the 500 million in exploration data I had at a nearby DSSA carrier first. Sweaty palms, for the two days of play time it took me to get through it. I've not really been exploring since I returned to the bubble after that. Don't know how to match that experience.Before Fc's were a thing, intrepid explorers relished the danger - imagine circumnavigating the entire galaxy in an AspX using only the seat of your pants for protection...
It's small at around 90ly across, but it has pretty much everything in it except Federal, Imperial and Alliance presence. It's a great base for exploring that side of the galaxy and Sag A* which is only 100 jumps in a 70ly jump range ship.

Horizons will, as you know, only kick you off a world with atmosphere if there is no atmosphere then it would need to be the base game.
Just remember to clean up your bindings to remove any other glitches then name the file and the label in the second line to something unique.

Voyager is labeled as you see. Then there are a few "Ancient Probes". Just arriving at Voyager now... Belugas and Haulers are around.
