Newcomer / Intro What are you up to?

Took my DBX for a little exploratory / material gathering trip to the closest rock near Farseer Inc. and that beautiful Coriolis station. Whatwasitsnameagain? Ack, I forgot - first time there.

Anyway, when I called my little Star Moth back in, she did a stellar parking job:
Elite - Dangerous (CLIENT) 15.10.2022 15_37_27.jpg

I actually had to dismiss and recall her again to be able to get into the SRV bay. 🤔😅😁
Second attempt she landed almost in the same spot, just a little to the side - that did the trick.

Excellent! Where to? I'm sorry, to presume.

I'm still pretty comfy with forty, my luxury Orca's current range on my last trip to California...
It was North of the bubble, going in the general direction of Sag A, then turned East to see if I could get amongst the more closely-packed stars by following the nearby spiral arm, rather than being between spirals all the time. Oddly enough though, after I had headed in that direction for a while it wasn't until I turned back a bit and headed towards an asteroid base that was still about 4,500lys from Sol that I found in EDSM, that I had the most success with first discoveries, as I was then amongst much more densely packed stars.

I went somewhere beyond California myself, in a general South-West direction on an earlier trip and had a bit of success with that as well, even though the stars were not that closely packed together.

Finally reached Elite combat for my triple Elite status. It seems to have taken forever to get there, but then as I probably only do about an hour a week bounty hunting it's not really surprising. I've done a lot more this week, as I got close to 100%.
A trip to a mat trader looks like the priority, as a lot of my manufactured and encoded bins seem to be full. After that, it might be time to fire up the alt account for a bit of exploration. I don't think that I will be doing any shooting for a while.

If it's Felicity's gaff in Deciat you're near to (I think she might have had bases elsewhere a while back as well but don't know if she still does) I think the Coriolis station you're talking about would be Garay Terminal would it? That happens to be the station where most of my ships are currently based, so I can be near Farseer Inc.

She doesn't like me much at the moment though and I couldn't figure out why, even though I've got to level 4 with her for quite a few things, but not the FSD jump range which is what I really want. So I'm now heading out on a mini-expedition to get a bunch more exploration data for her, (I already gave her some a while back) to see if that will make her happy. If only I had sold all the data from my last trip at her place instead of the first station I came to...

The best way of increasing your access level is by having the engineer do mods to your gear. So, for example, you could take the ship you want to increase your FSD on to her base, go to outfitting and fit a cheap FSD - remembering to store your curent one - then do some mods and before too many; voila! there you have grade 5 access. Swap your previous FSD back in and engineer it as you wish.

A darn sight quicker than going out for several tens of millions of exploration data.

Ah ok cheers, I'll give that one a try. Anyway though I wanted to try out the Dolphin I now have as recommended by @Tyres, so I'm currently heading out maybe 500-1,000lys (only got 32lys jump range on her at the moment) where I should be able to get quite a few first maps, and can quickly discover all the already discovered stuff using the FSSS. (I think she only wants 10 million credits worth anyway in total and as I mentioned I did already sell some there a while back.)

I also want to try landing amongst mountains in the Dolphin for exobiology purposes, so if I come across any pretty scenery amongst the mountains etc I'll post it here. :)

It is indeed Garay...
Just went here with my Space Moth after picking up the unit of meta alloys from Darnielle's Progress in Maia. I then called a few of my ships over from Barnard's Survey in Suhte for some much needed upgrades and blew right through to level 5 access in about an hour total, mostly upgrading stuff like the shield boosters and such...

That is really interesting, could this be an Odyssey thing?
For all I needed to gain access to her station was one unit of meta alloys. And, so far, I didn't see any hints on waning access to those I unlocked... 🤔

Could I ask for some advice/opinions, please?

I'm (very slowly) getting stuff together to build a Maverick suit specifically for covert sabotage/infiltration/shutdown/theft/heist/espionage etc. - general stealth missions.

So, the first mod I'll be getting is quiter footsteps. The other ones I'm thinking of are:
  • Night vision
  • Extra backback capacity
  • Increased sprint duration
Now, I'm not 100% on the last two and toying with faster shield regen and damage resistance - but I'm not convinced on those two either.

What would you do?

Thanks!

Also can have her engineer something else like your sensors or surface scanner to gain her favor without bringing another drive in
Aye, she upgraded my surface scanner on the Asp X a while back, amongst other things. Can't say I've noticed much difference though when mapping, as using the original bog-standard one seems to do the trick just as well and I can usually get the efficiency bonus without too much trouble. As I mentioned though I'm not flying the Asp right now as I'm in the Dolphin and I haven't got around to upgrading much with her on that yet. I do intend to try out that FSD trick as suggested by @Fnord Velkor though when I get back, after this short discovery trip I'm currently on. :)

Not sure if it's an Odyssey thing, but according to Inara she does want exploration data to be sold at Farseer. I think I must have seen the "10 million credits worth" somewhere else though...
Oh and the meta alloys were the first thing I gave her a while back, the first time I visited her.

Not that I'm experienced at it, but it seems to me that if you the increased sprint range that you wouldn't need the faster shield generation and vice versa. I think that's an either or but not both situation.

But I would think damage resistance is a must, probably more so than the extra backpack space. You can always make a dash back to the SRV to reload on things if you need to. Hard to do that if you're dead.

While visiting the closest material traders around Deciat, I found a Shipyard that had the Dolphin in stock.
I had enough Credits to buy one... You can guess the rest by peeking down at my signature... 😅

And I am still struggling to get my Star Moray up and running.
I better get the Data Highway back to Suhte to ferry some big data... 🤔

I'm based in Deciat and have been since shortly after I started playing. (That will of course change after I get my Fleet Carrier.)

A few jumps away from Deciat is a place called Shinrarta Dezhra and in that system is a base called Jameson Memorial. Always go there to buy your ships because they're 10% off at all times. It's worth the few jumps it takes to get there to save, in some cases, 10 million plus credits.

They also have most of the modules you'll need to outfit any given ship with, so no jumping all over the place to get them.

You need to have one Elite badge in your pocket first though, unless you're a Founder. :)

I don't think INARA does distinguish between 3.8 and 4.0. I feel like they completely abandoned 3.8 support. EDDB as well.

I tried to find equipment for the Star Moray and I found in both cases the equipment cluttered over several station in the area, only to go there and find anything but the stuff I was looking for.

I then went to another station I had seen some time before that they should at least have some of the parts I was looking for - guess what, they had all the stuff. And I double checked, it wasn't even listed for any of the stuff in INARA or EDDB...
The only thing missing was enough credits on my bank account - always fun to have to buy the ship first, try to fly to the station that has the equipment for the specific slots to find out how much the modules will cost...

You have to remember that there are literally thousands of people looking at the same data that you are.

If you see something older than a few hours, don't waste your time. It's probably not there anymore, especially in very crowded systems like Deciat. Limit your searches to the absolute minimum time.
