Newcomer / Intro What are you up to?

Not much in the way of screenshots to share because I've switched to traveling mode. I started feeling trapped in the Colonia area because of the Tritium shortage there, and decided to make my way back toward the bubble. I'm not even stopping to explore the systems on the way (so far, anyway).

I did encounter a black hole system, though. The black hole itself was tagged, but there were also 3 neutron stars in the system, and a water world, that were not tagged. So I got those. :)

Here's a shot from today, though, of one of my Cutters on the pad.

I'm starting to feel the same way about Colonia. Done quite a stint now so toying with the idea of a return. Need to calculate the tritium though as I might be borderline empty before I get back to the bubble.

While I am keen to revisit Colonia on at least an annual basis when I can think of a goal to achieve while there, I don't think I would drag the fleet carrier out there.
I'm thinking of completing the last 50% of Elite II to Elite III exploration rank out there. But it might have to wait until after I see what the November update 14 brings.
It's great exploring with the Carrier, but I am missing the different kind of freedom you get when it's just you and your one exploration ship and you can go anywhere.

Colonia will be the last stand location after the Thargoids descend upon the bubble...

I left my carrier in the black last week and I'm just off finding stuff. I'll get back to it eventually...

I came back to fix up my Phantom a bit more and sell off the ore I'd mined and go ahead and finish off Elite IV Trade.

After @CMDRQuainMarln gets back I'll pick up my Anaconda and Python core miner and head back out again. I'm just going to goof off a bit until then.

EDHM could be your friend
I concur.
Just killed a pirate on a Mamba while in a trade trip but NO BOUNTY? Only the second time it happens, last time it was an Anaconda, juicy targets, big bounties notmaly, what gives?
I have met some NPCs rated "harmless", piloting ships I was unable get a hold on yet.
It always makes sense to check their stats before blowing them out of the sky. Given they let you, that is...

He probably just didn't have a bounty in that system. That's why you always carry a Kill Warrant Scanner - when you scan him with that, you'll get paid any bounties he has in other systems within range.

Just because he's a pirate doesn't mean he's wanted in the system you see him in at that given moment. Without the scanner, the system that wants him will never know you killed him, hence no bounty paid.

Ah. So that is how this thingamabob works... Thanks.

Yeah, essential to the bounty hunter, a Kill Warrant Scanner, I carry one even on my Eagle...

Plus I think that the value of the bounty increases after a full scan, corret me if I'm mistaking (I need more coffee)...

If your ship is capable of carrying a fighter here are my tips:

Hire a newbie, he/she will take 10% of whatever dosh you make but stay at this rate.

Train him/her, once you know their moves and they are fully trained to Elite status, they are VERY efficient, mine can generally take care of light ships on her own without issues.

Equip your pilot with a good XG9 Lance, the Gauss Projector they're equiped with contribute greatly to taking down your target shields.

If you need to bug out in emergency, you don't need to wait for your fighter, he/she won't die, their ships are remotly flown.

Does anybody have one of those new combat SRV's? Is it worth getting for the on foot missions?
The Scorpion?

I'm in two minds. The weaponry is nice, but not exactly the last word in anti-personel armoury. To drive, they stick to the ground a lot better than the Scarab but are slower.

If you can target an on-foot enemy in the open, the surge repeater is OK-ish in stripping their shields and, when done, you are notified - then you can create a pavement pizza using the Aculeus.

Have Wiki link for more info:

EDIT Oh, how I wish I could set my carrier journey on automatic and come back in 15 hours to see it done...

Hope to be back in the bubble by 17:00 in game time Monday 31st. It will either be Teveri or where there is a good price for Monazite. I seem to have about a billion credits worth of Monazite in the carrier cargo hold for some reason... 😜

It depends on the mission.

Against most enemies the Scarab is better as the guns are more accurate. The Scorpion's guns take 10-15 shots in the area of the target before the fire control targets the target accurately. It does have missiles. The Scorpion is slower and less agile than the Scarab, but the engine does growl!

I have done team CZs with a CMDR in a Scorpion. Does not bother shooting a lot of the time, just gets a bit of speed, jumps and lands on top of NPCs squashing them!

I have two things to add to what both Tyres and Steve said above:

1: The Scorpion can take a lot of damage, even from ships, it has IMO way better shielding than the scarab. Still not invincible though.

2: It is NOT a close quarters combat type of vehicle, beyond the tires being the third weapon. Taking it INTO a settlement is guaranteed to get you stuck and no amount of boost jet will get you high enough to get out, usually...

Oh, and I have, on occasion, taken out ships with it...
