Dev'ing looks like difficult work to me, so I recommend they steal a nuclear weapon and hold the world to ransom.
Well there's your problem.I only play SC, ED & EDO.
I have tried 100s of games but always come back to these 3.Well there's your problem.
Well, for a legit great game that's still in the space genre, I'd recommend Outer Wilds. Don't confuse it with The Outer Worlds though, or if you do be sure to post complaining about it being awful so I can have a giggle. If genre is flexible, try great games in a few other genres: Baba is You, Factorio, Terraria.I have tried 100s of games but always come back to these 3.

Yes essentially all this.Buggy release (beyond repair it seems!), minimal gameplay content, maximized grind. Especially on the non-combat front.
It didn't bring anything to the core game. It's a completely different, non-coherent gameplay loop that doesn't add to the core game but is a separate gameplay loop not attached to the entire game as a whole. On-foot gameplay is completely separate from spaceship gameplay. They could have made it a separate game.
Bring gameplay, not grind. Respect and add non-combat activities. ED is not COD or Battlefield and shouldn't become either.
Fix bugs, rebalance earnings, lessen the grind, give purpose beyond the grind's sake, make the game (optionally) more challenging for those who had been there, did it and got the t-shirt. Add more features that add to the core gameplay and do not open a separate unattached gameplay loop. Ideally add new activities that provide more variety that make sense for your ship but does not introduce power creep nor make your ship obsolete.
Which is why what they're doing now is focusing on performance.. or so they tell us.Performance, performance, performance.
People have for years continued to play despite bugs, despite questionable design decisions, despite FD dropping the ball in various ways, but never before did FD release a patch that caused so many people to be unable to play the game for so long.
With a single stroke they effectively ensured that a huge part of the playerbase could not partake in the new content.
New things like the new SRV and Fleet Carrier interiors are all well and good, but useless to someone who can't enjoy them.
Unless FD can improve performance, then nothing else they do will help much. If they can't, then all they can do is weather the storm until people naturally upgrade, and then some people might come back, but some will be lost forever.
Now I know what the concourse is missing: an arcade machine with a few side and top scrolling space shooters. They could try inventing a time machine and bringing back the late 90s when space games were last in vogue.
Which is why what they're doing now is focusing on performance.. or so they tell us.
They're taking a bally long time to do it though!!
Obviously this is only my interpretation but here goes....With the release of Odyssey and update 9 (bringing the first ever new SRV), we saw very little change in the playerbase overall count. Population spiked initially at release, of course, but then went back down to what it was in late 2019 and early 2020. Update 9 barely made any change at all. The population is stable to where we're not seeing in drastic increase or decrease. This worries me as I do like this game and want it to do well. But at the same time those population trends are troubling and could potential hint at an issue with the game's direction. We also saw similar behavior with Horizons. We had a large spike, then a drop off. This is a pretty normal behavior for this game where we have a sudden spike on "major" releases, then a sudden drop.
- What is going on with the game currently that drove away players that we've had in the past years
- Why did Odyssey's new features/offerings (not talking about bugs, just the features) not have a greater impact on the game
- What can the developers do to bring in new players/increase new player interest
- What can the developers do to bring back older players who are not playing
Now I do recognize that the pandemic helped boost numbers. But to me I really want to see this game's population grow. So what do you think the answer to the above 4 questions are?
(abbreviated)...
I'd be happy with Frontier's expectations for the game as expressed at KickStarter. That's what I gave the cash for.
If I was as closed minded, I would say We're doomed. Google Bethesda Space 2022.i would like to know an alternative for ED ?, i have played X4 lately but dropped it in favour of ED. the things i dislike on X4 are the very complex UI with functionality behind which doesn´t really work in lots of cases, and flying in an 2D space in front of a wallpaper. Also i dislike the graphics in NMS, and the business model of SC. What i´am looking for is a space simulation with flying in a complete universe and somehow believable physics, no shooter. For my expectatios Elite in its pre Odyssey state was perfect, but now with introducing basic errors to the game my frust level seems to exceed the enjoyment. what is this Bethesda thing mentioned in this thread, sorry but i do not follow gaming industry news ? thx
