What did you do in Planet Zoo today?

Making progress on the sulfur lakes :) Nearby there's the aadvark house and the baboon habitat.

Next Update to the China Zoo. Moving the Red Panda from its old lonely home atop the mountain in the east to its slightly hilly area nearer to the entrance to be the first cutesy animal the guests see. And thus the Yunnan Reserve is created. Opposite the Red Pandas is a glade housing every vendor stall possible rofl to suit their purchasing needs. Hopefully this will help bring the profits up rofl.

I was hoping the train route being expanded to go around the bulk of the zoo for quick access to areas would be popular, but for some insane reason, they prefer to walk everywhere rofl.

Anyway, next stop is to move the horses that are currently in the paddock near the new Red Panda habitat along with the Red Foxes to their new home in Gansu Reserve east of Qinghai Plateau. If .. the money holds out .. time for some more playing/speedups and selling those excess butterflies again.

And finally move completed. The Red Foxes and Prz.. .Horses moved to their home in Gansu Reserve. Half moon partial forest for the shy Red Foxes and a nice long paddock for running horses. And of course some merch and food and drink for the guests who get this far rofl.

A very foggy day so screenshots are not that great but here's the overview. Just need to enlarge the Binturong habitat in the bottom right. Then it's the case of trying to figure out whether I have too much staff still or not enough money making items as I am still losing between 60k and 90k each year with the manual butterfly cash out being the only reason I am not bankcrupt yet.

Today i nearly completed the first "thematic" area of my mini zoo, the tortoise garden!

The tortoise garden persists of a pond for terrapins and a house and outdoor habitat for spurred tortoises, aswell as a nice view of the lake and the gibbon isle.
torthouse.jpeg

A small stream leads down to the pond from the main lake, turning it into one the favorite spots of my 2 swans and many imaginary ducks
torthouse1.jpeg

The actual tortoise house is home to 3 spurred tortoises and was build for the last zooolympic games were we maybe have or have not scored well. The pics are still from my last session, so no waterfowl/terrapin section in the background of these pics.
torthouse3.jpeg

On the backside of the house is a habitat for a pair of dik dik, which can be connected through a gate to the tortoise habitat to let both species interact and have acess to each others outdoor areas.
torthouse4.jpeg

On the inside the tortoises have a small pool in the back and a cave on the right, which even has a small window for the guest to look inside!
torthouse5.jpeg

On the other side we have the access to the staff part of the building, an information board and the inside home of the terrapins to spend the winter in with a few staying year round.
torthouse6.jpeg

Inside the staff part we got the backstage holding of the terrapins, aswell as a small attic on top of their spaceous terrarium. Theres also a peak in the small yet workable dik dik interior stables.
torthouse7.jpeg

Besides the stables, theres also a small keeper area and the door that leads to the visitor area.
torthouse8.jpeg

Overall i gotta say im quite happy with the progress of the last few days, if i keep that up i might actually finish this zoo till the end of the year!

The fog has shifted and I've moved the Binturong habitat to an area where it might boost some foot and transport traffic.

And a labeled version showing which animal was placed where. There are also 6 Swallowtail Butterfly exhibits scattered around. The primary 2 are at the bottom near where the Red panda sign is. The others were added purely for money boosting and are on either side of the Giant Panda area.

With the next community challenge being Lemurs, I will probably rework my Zoolympics Zoo I used for the Zookeeper DLC challenge into the Madascgar portion of the World Zoo.

Started getting into the world of font piece custom signage and started on a mural that will go into the future aviary for wadden sea shorebirds. And ngl this actually is alot more fun that i originally thought :D
From left to right these are meant to be harbor seal, artic tern, herring gull, cormorant, oystercatcher, pied advocet and ringed plover, the latter 4 of which will be in this aviary. Really wanna add a couple more like puffin, sandpiper and eurasian spoonbill.

How do you do this???

How do you do this???
You can tilt the font pieces to only get their tips sticking out. The easiest example and imo most usefull would be the large I as you can tilt it to get thin and thicker lines for custom signage for example.

Ofcourse completly different ball park to what marvin did but technice should be roughly the same just much more advanced

Ah so smacking my head into a wall repeatedly. Got it.

On the serious though that is very cool! Amazing work @Marvinb! I wish there were easier ways for me to make some customs signs, like generic shapes. I know I could also try to upload my own images.

I just wish there were easier ways to do stuff like this that are a bit more beginner friendly.

Yeah pretty much like this, i used the . and , from the small 2d font set, angled them and sunk them into the wall. Its takes some time and is kinda fiddly but once you get the hang of it its imo actually not that hard.

Next world zoo challenge as I said was the Madasgcar segment, and hopefully at least partially finished in time to benefit from the next challenge, by converting the Zoolympics created zoo into a World Zoo covering Aldabra and Madagascar.

I've made the basic mark up, invisi barrier and pathing to give me a general idea of where I want things. All animals are present in the exisitng zoo area apart from the Aldabran Tortoise. So, it's theoretically just a shift of animals and reworking how the guests can see them such as the marked out safari routes.

Aldabra Tortoise at the top
Coquerel's Sifaka ( top left ) and Red Ruffled Lemur ( top right )
Fossa (centre left ) and Black and White Lemur ( centre right )
Ring tailed Lemur ( left of the entrance ) and Flamingo ( right of the entrance ).

I might have a boat ride going up and down the coasts on the left and right and crossing from the main land to the aldabra island - yes I know its closer than it should be but then again, Madasgcar is a lot smaller than it should be rofl. It all depends on whether I can build a coast line close enough to the habitats to be feasible for a boat viewing area.

WZ - Madascgar - Before.jpg

Edit: Attempt 1 - It's a no go .. that 40k disappeared before completing the move for one of the animals rofl. Will start over with a clear slate and work my way up the island one animal at a time.
Attempts 2 and 3 were no go's as well. Considering I don't really need to pay out for animals it's surprising the money just dwindles trying to keep the guests happy while I add each habitat in. Of course it could be habitat size. I've been going for over maximum size so that they have plenty of land/water/climbing space to fit their needs once their population base has filled out.

I’ve been working on this massive 14,000 square meter habitat to fill up more space. It’s home to Indian elephants, Indian rhinoceros, wild water buffalo, sun bear, and malayan tapir. Since most of these species enjoy swimming, there are multiple viewing areas, including the underwater tunnel, near pools. Still some work to do with terrain, barriers, and scenery but overall I really like where it’s going.
