What did you do in Planet Zoo today?

I did a thing

My zoo is slowly coming together

I've also continued with my zoo. The second dome has been placed, as well as the building in the middle of the two domes. Here we will be having 6 different exhibit species. In the empty dome there will be two exhibit species (Giant forest scorpion and Giant Malaysian leaf insect) together with the Asian water monitor. Also an indoor exhibit for the Lar Gibbons, which will be able to exit the dome and enter an island, they share with Asian small-clawed otters.

The large high building will be for guests to eat and I want to create a playground for the kids. Because of the hight I want to give it a tropical feeling. On the "free" side of the building the African section will follow with 2 exhibit species, Sand cats, African spurred tortoises and a night section with Aardvarks and bats.

Maybe some can see it, but it is based on the Rivièrahal of Blijdorp (The Netherlands).

Well general work on the Estancia turned-restaurant is done... only details missing.

Looks so good!
If googles is to be believed a estancia is a patagonian ranch/country estate? So mabye use the empty room for telling the guests something about the history of the building by placing some crates, barrels and barnyard milk jugs with implied signage. Another fun idea imo would be to take some screenshots of the building, some lifestock and maybe some guests, make them black and white and throw them on some small buildboards to make some sort of "life on the estate through the years" kind of photo collage

Yeah is like a country house i guess.

And that's a cool idea. I wanted to make a mural or some wall art in that empty wall but i didn't like any of the pieces in game to go on there and i have really no clear idea of what type of mural anyway lol

I though about a receptionist for the restaurant as well. Or maybe place a salad/buffet/desert table.

Today I figured out why my butterfly, bat, and sloth displays never had good scenery values. I also found a nice shell for them that did not consume half my park. Then I made a completed basic layout with only a couple of animals other than the exhibits. Too bad I cannot transfer the layout to my other zoos. But I can refer to the picture when I need to.

It is all still a WIP so nothing is finished, but hereby an update on my zoo.

For the first time I try to add details which add to the realism of the zoo. With two big domes, they of course need to be cleaned from the outside as well! Currently there is a cart which can go around the dome. And of course there is a water hose! The cart still needs to be finished as well, but the idea is there.

The water needs to come from somewhere, so there is a little filter next to the building. Via pipes the water can reach the hose.

And also the solar panels didn't come there by themselves. Via a special elevator the roof can be accessed. The story will be that this complex can provide itself with energy from the solar panels. I still want to add some more details to the roof. Some walking path and maybe some security fences to the edges.

Finally an overview. Two domes with a building connecting them, a main area where a restaurant/playground will come and an outside exhibit for Lar gibbons and Asian small-clawed otters.

I used the knowledge I gained from making my Free Zoo, namely that we can have more than one zoo per biome per continent, to make a zoo for Madagascar animals. It consists of a walkthrough with four species of lemur. One wall of the walkthrough looks in the fossa enclosure through one-way glass. Unfortunately I ran into problems with the "neutral" lemur response to humans. The lemurs are freaking out and no amount of undergrowth appears to sate their fears of the great mumbling crowd. I am probably going to have to revert to my traditional rectangular zoo and do away with the walkthrough. This is why I can't have nice things in my zoos, lol.

Yeah, I hate that with the non confident animals. Major restrictions on creativity in order to keep the animals happy. I usually end up defaulting to the regular barriers and only walkthroughs for confident animals. Or, make the habitat huge enough that there is plenty of space that can be hidden away but accessible to the animals when they need it via hidden sleeping areas that the guests can't see etc.

Well, enlarging the enclosure and putting all the goodies on the far edge did not help the freaking out. All it did was make the guests say the view was not very good. I have seen that before. For no reason at all, non-confident animals will run over to the people and just stay there.

The only solution was to go back to a conventional display but with "fingers" extending into it. Lots of one-way glass involved. It is not finalized because the rain is making visibility almost impossible even in the daylight. However, the animals are not stressed, the protestors have gone away, and the guests are happier than I have ever seen them. I have to use this method on my other zoos.

The view of the fossa, on the other hand, is getting damned by faint praise. I have seen this message before. I have to wonder if it is a translation problem or if the person who put that message in has a dry sense of humor.

Yeah, that's pretty much how I usually end up dealing with them. Just to make things easier.

My latest version of my GHI zoo I tried walkthroughs with the neutral animals to see if I could have them work.

Indian Peafowl at the top - Confident so no major issues there
Galapagos Tortoise on the lower left - Neutral, attempted to give them hiding areas - feeding and toys are in the open though, so once they are calmed down they come back out to play. But fortunately they don't get shy at the same time so always someone out.
Giant Anteater on the lower right - Neutral again, but don't recall a shy attack, but similarly gave them areas to run and hide in and food drink and toys where the guests can see them.
I do however, put a water fountain in the shy area, don't want them dehydrating while going into shy shock.

As a comparitive of space requirements and what I give them ( so I can put tons of greenery in as hiding coverage ) ..
Giant Anteater - Max space needed 840m2 Available 1752m2 - Still tons of greenery space to utilise if needed
Galapagos Tortoise - Max space needed more than 493m2 Available 3008m2 - Greenery almost maxed out
Indian Peafowl - Max space needed 1134m2 Available 5368m2 - Greenery Maxed Out

I'm working on an Arctic Wolf habitat! In this pic is Male Nanurjuk leading whilst Female Elisapie follows him. Its not visible in this pic but I am attempting to build mesh fences within the habitat to pretend that there are holding areas that the keeper can enter the habitat without worrying about wolves attacking since they are in their den. Of course, in the lore of the zoo the wolves are bonded to the keeper, it is just protocol that the keeper wouldn't enter the habitat with wolves running about. LOL
