What did you do in Planet Zoo today?

There is days where you just want to be inspired, entertain new ideas, revisit old ones and even possibly change course all together. Not every day has to be a day of progress in the game, and at times a break is a good thing, it often puts things into perspective.

Today I continued working on the Heart of Africa exhibit that I will be starting work on really soon. I first place all of the main ideas as a broad concept on paper, and eventually narrow it down to a sketch showing the in game architectural scale, that I can reference at a later time. The particular area I was focusing on will be called Prey and Predator Pavilion. You will have a sheltered fully air conditioned structure where visitors can take refuge from the outside elements. Inside this building, there will be info panels showing the relationship between predators and prey in the African grasslands.

There will be three viewing windows, each looking into a separate outdoor habitat. Two of the habitats (Cheetahs and Warthogs) will be rotating exhibits (This will be designed as implied since Planet Zoo does not currently have such feature) the last habitat will be an interactive exhibit for Meerkats (With the hope that they will be joining the game really soon, hopefully in the summer) I will design an enrichment tunnel that will be fully interactive. I'm using the pangolins as reference for this, since they are the smallest mammals currently in the game (hoping their hitbox is similar to whatever is attached to the Meerkats.

I created a few signs for this exhibition, a few examples below.

The only "new" thing I have done in any of my zoos recently is in my dessert zoo in franchise. I now have a very pathetic plaza (paths are my enemy!) by the entrance and my exhibit building is now complete on 3 sides. It still doesn't have anything other than exhibits, but the idea is to have all of the exhibit animals in the building near the entrance and only then move on to habitats. Currently have 12 of the exhibits.

I have been working on career mode and timed scenarios (wow, what a failure that was, the zoos look horrible!). I'm excited about getting the statues. Probably won't finish all the scenarios and the campaign before the 30th, but that's fine. I'll get back to it eventually, I think.

I have been slowly working on my low-budget zoo in challenge mode (I have it in challenge mode because I will be adding mods to that zoo). I have started working on a Bengal tiger enclosure.

I have also opened a new franchise zoo called Elsweyr ZOO, dedicated to the pack (for those wondering, yes the name is from the Elder Scrolls lore, I thought it was pretty fitting). It's in tropical Asia (obviously), and will mostly feature animals from that region. I have put down flamingos because they are a good starting animal, and I made a really lush forest for my orangutans. I've never used them at all until now. I have been working on an entrance. I'm going for a bamboo/wood building style so lots of bamboo fences, thatched roofs, and that kind of thing.

These sounds like awesome projects. :) I also integrate mods into my low budget zoo (I mean the mods that are currently out are perfect for it, aren't they?), but might also include some in the new high budget zoo.

I admire your patience to work for the statues XD Honestly, I started and immediately thought "gosh no, I can't do this!" Working with someone elses zoo is so hard for me. It's not even the challenge with money or CC, that I like. But the map and everything and the game telling me what to do... ugh. We'll see if I ever find the guts to keep going with it. ^^

Yesterday I worked on my walk in habitat with nubia goats ( I almost typed random goats, omg :D) in Tierpark Murmeldorf. My gosh, have I lost my ability to build. Have to work hard on that again.

Today I restart Bookland Zoo from scratch. Hopefully I get into the vibe again this time.

I don't use mods (yet), but I follow the modding community and I think that goat is one of the best ones so far. It looks truly amazing.

I think I'm going to return to the scenarios as well. I have played some (never to gold level, though), but I want to unlock the stone statues. What really scares me is the timed scenarios. They look hard as hell. I started the first one some time ago and the countdown gave me so much anxiety that I quit right away 🤣

Timed scenarios are a PITA - but the stone statues should be available to everyone, as all scenarios should be unlocked (unless you don't own the respective DLC). Cophaga is the worse one. Tanami and Red Barn are pretty easy, IME. Karst Mire somewhere in the middle. Unless you don't like the challenge, play them in easy mode.

If someone wants an advice for the timed scenarios, it helped me playing them in the easy mode (at least for the silver star). I always play with medium level, but I did an exception with the timed scenarios.

Coincidentally, if you aim for bronze, there's no time limit to finish them. You can take your time. The time challenge is only there if you want silver and gold.

My bad, I meant the silver star. I edited my message, thanks!

Yes! A lot of them are perfect for my temperate, low-budget zoo. The fallow deer, elk, Nubian goat, Przewalski horse (honestly, this one looks like it was made by Frontier, no joke, it looks SO GOOD). I know you are working on a similar project so I'd love to hear/see your progress. :)

You know what? Just rush through it, put it on the easy difficulty. You don't even have to go all the way to gold (I do it for the sake of completion; I'm probably never going to use the gold statues anyway, I think they look kind of tacky). I'm not saying I'm rushing it, but I'm also not wasting any time. You can do it! :D

I did the same the first time! :ROFLMAO: I was like "nope, this isn't for me!" I agree, the timer is nerve-wrecking! :ROFLMAO:
I tried and failed every time so far. But I am going to give it another shot.

Thanks @Tobs & @Aramar for the tips!

Currently building the entrance pf Bookland Zoo and I am so much in a zone, that it might take some while, until I go back to Tierpark Murmeldorf and work on that :D However, I want to include the Przewalski Horse in the high budget zoo as well. Who cares that they are usually only kept in low budget :D They are indeed absolutely awesome quality.

I'm really enjoying building the African section of my zoo and I'm trying new designs for my habitats. This is my lemur habitat, with two viewing points on the sides instead of the classical front viewing area that I usuallly do. It houses the two lemur species. I also tried to create my own climbing structures, since I use a lot the ones that come with the game.

Been working away on a zoo for a few hours ... I am trying different design ideas and really starting to enjoy myself using the tools. I was pretty shaky confidence wise at first but the more I mess with that stuff the better I feel about it. So here are the highlights.

entrypath.jpeg

This is my first time really messing with the walls and doing buildings in a proper way.

I thought, since I had the wall up, I would put a sign on it.

koblerzoosign.jpeg

I had fun designing my staff area ... don't ask what happened with the walled off rocks :)

staffarea1.jpeg

I did deliberately use a lock of rocks ... to create the chain-link fence effect which you see if you're driving along rocky roads in some parts of the world, to prevent loose boulders rolling down.

fencedoffboulders.jpeg

I did a back bit for my staff area ... it's unfinished as you can see.

staffarearearview.jpeg

And there are two exhibits and three habitats ... the first exhibit is the jaguars ... not much imagination or effort in ths one.

jaguars.jpeg

But I built that as a space filler after I'd built the first of my big two ... this is my wolves.

wolfcounty1.jpeg

I am pretty pleased with that and particular my little shelter that I built and decorated. And my staff enterance.

wolfenterance.jpeg

And behind the wolf enclosure are my bears.

I really love sunken habitats now, they are a great way to build and when you get them right they look fab.

As I said, I'm very much a beginner at the habitat designs ... but I really do love this game and the scope it gives you for your own imagination.

After a several months break, the latest DLC announcement made me want to build again. Reviewing my Zoo made me decide I want to tear down and restructure a lot of my African area, since it did not really work out the way I wanted.
But first, I had some ideas for something completely different: the King Penguins. Here are some WIPs:

So last night I went a bit mad and decided to clean up all the things that were bugging me about my park ...

dangerousrocks1.jpeg

Gone went some of the more dangerous overhanging rocks ....

FIXEDKEEPERAREA.jpeg

I fixed up my keeper area ....

NICEKEEPERAREA.jpeg

I made a new little area for the staff just off the main buildings (out of necessity) ...

IMPROVEDKEEPERBIT.jpeg

And then, just off that area, I attempted something ... wild! :)

WHATSTHAT.jpeg

To build my first proper viewing area indoors, complete with all the fancy art and facilities.

LIONLAND.jpeg

I originally had a sign up saying "LEOS HOUSE" but I loved that big mask, so much so I've used it twice.

LIONLAND2.jpeg

I was initially concerned that my two giant lions would be a problem for immersion with people walking through them ... but actually the wooden floor overlays a large plaza and all I did was remove those two squares from the path and the public walks around them :)

LIONLAND3.jpeg

The amount of excellent African art stuff that comes with that pack is amazing ... really does make me kinda sad we're not getting more scenery with the next DLC.

LIONLAND4.jpeg

Love those monkey wall murals and the old cave drawing type paintings.

Who's watching who here? :)
