What did you do in Planet Zoo today?

That pool is beautiful! If you don't mind accepting some advice I would suggest a bit more terrain painting, some soil 'paths' through the grass where the Elephants have walked and maybe mix in some of the other type of soil or rock into the soil part. It will liven up the large expenses of the same texture. Looks great anyway!
Thank you! Funnily enough I actually did add some dirt trails to the grass! I'll have another look at the terrain, I always forget you can alter the transparency to make it blend better. Edit: I'm also thinking of rearranging the planting a little. Looking at it again I think it could use some work.

Work's been pretty busy so I decided to continue building on my zoo a little to unwind and relax some...didn't get that far but the new Gemsbok habitat is almost done. Gonna post some more pics tomorrow when foliage and everything is in as well.

This looks absolutely amazing for just being Dirt and Rocks. I wish I would be so good at this. At least I've managed to build a very good looking Rock Wall with only 2 Types of Rocks in my Reptile House :)

Yeah I'd almost suggest leaving it as is - it's pretty realistic for what a lot of zoos do for outdoor desert habitats. That said I'm sure it will look great with foliage.

Did some more work on my elephant habitat. Fixed up a bit of the planting I wasn't happy with, played around with the terrain a bit, and added a second separation habitat to the rear along with a water treatment plant (just for show - I have the settings arranged so I don't have to worry about it, but it occurred to me that there would definitely be a hefty water treatement system in place for the elephant pools). The funny thing is the elephants actually do stay pretty close to where I drew the dirt trails.

It looks great, especally the dirt pit and the water, but if im allowed to give a tip
Maybe try mix a bit of the lighter dirt and the short grass into the trails with a lower intensity brush. It helps making the trails blend better into the grass

I would at least add a Scratching Tree (either the coniferous one or a Scratching Post hidden inside a dead Tree). Also found out through Research that for some Reason grazing Animals don't eat the new Grass from the Africa Pack for some Reason, so it can be planted without being unrealistic

Definitely a .png, but I didn't actually download it.

Yeah that's what I did, but I actually got it to work by downloading it first!

Thanks for the help, this opens up a whole world of possibilities now!

Edit: Though I still wish Canva didn't hide so much behind a paywall, or at least was cheaper. Even being able to bring in images from the outside, you can't recolour them (such as animal sillhouettes), and most of the good ones in Canva itself are watermarked (which kind of defeats the purpose of a sillhouette!). Not to mention, some of the best fonts are locked away.

I'm tempted to give Gimp another go (I used to use it a long time ago for mapmaking), but I don't know if I'm really that committed to billboards to try and figure it out again. 😅
Damn, turns out this method didn't actually work, it just made the background white instead of black.

Finished my Gharial Enclosure, built a Nile Monitor Enclosure (I think that's the first Time since the Beta that I keep them in Franchise Mode) and built a Komodo Dragon Enclosure. I wanted to also have a Galapagos Tortoise Enclosure next to the Nile Monitors (separated by a planted Area with tropical Plants) but the Enclosure for the Monitors filled a Way bigger Part of the Room than expected. I've also decorated the Entrance of the Reptile House, tested if the Titan Arum fits into a empty Exhibit because I don't want to evacuate the whole Building 🙃. Then I've added some other Plants around the Titan Arum Exhibition and put a Vista Point there. I've also released 60 Gharials at once, which inspired me to put a Gharial Sign close to the Entrance which mentions that 60 where already released and linked it to the Gharial Enclosure (the Flamingos really need a Break from People), which finally made the Reptile House a little bit more popular

I've decided I really don't have a creative bone in my body for this graphic stuff, so I'm biting the bullet and making just super basic billboards. They don't actually look that bad in the game, and at least this way I can produce them pretty quickly.
Most zoos don't do the information signs fancy anyway. I like your billboard.

Soooo... a few days ago I started to lay out the boat tour and builded the first habitat you can see from it, containing zebras and african buffalos. I still need to work on the stone barrier that keeps them from swimming in the river, though.

But... I admit I have a short love affair with another game. For whatever reason I decided to give Sims 4 yet another try (I can't even count anymore how many times I tried to stick with it, so even that might die down soon anyway), and there is currently no time left for PZ. In all honesty? I enjoy Sims for now, but at the same time I totally miss being limitlessly creative and build on my zoo. The good thing with Sims is though, that you see progress much faster and with my current "this pandemic will never end and nothing is going forward ever again" blues, that's what I need.

It's good to move onto other games every now and then. I spent most of my concussion in Stardew Valley.

It's not bad at all. Like Swjos said, many zoos don't have super fancy signs. Some are so simple, yet effective

Yeah, sometimes I go back and forth with older games like SimCity 4, Spore, Stellaris, and Minecraft. Really depends on my mood. Occasionally KOTOR 2, but it's messing up now so I gotta see why

Today i did some work on the african area on my zoo, building a shelter for the third of the first 3 mayor exhibits and put an aviary on top because it was ugly and i fealt like it.
I also noticed how nice the "finished" areas of my zoo looked from afar of the hill, so today you can see my entire zoo, i bet you all have been ~not~ excited for this event!

africa 2.jpeg

My actual work from today is this aviary and i like it quite alot. The keeper acesses it over a lader on the side of the building, moving into the little room on the right before entering the habitat. If i could i would put some type of african quail and some parrots in here or maybe a turaco.
From the hill you have a nice view over the park, that will be eve nicer when the african part left will be finished and i have finally decided what to put on the hills. In the back you can see the lamas, aswell as the taiga area and the rhino and bear house.

africa 1.jpeg

From the entrance side of the zoo there is also a way into the african part of my zoo, leading through an implied african village with a pen for watussi cattle and goats on the right, while the building on the left will be the shelter for african wild dogs.
africa 5.jpeg

The african village leads too the snake cave with the primary viewing of the african wild dogs, wonder why it has that name. On the top of the hill is room where the nyalas can roam, but from this positions they arnt really visible.
africa 4.jpeg

And finally the overview over my zoo! I build it clockwise from the area on the left, starting with a crappy african area, where im allready merging two of the old exhibits into the newer better one, behind them is the asian tropical house that can be circled and that i would call the only real "finished" area of my zoo. On the right of the tropical house are more asian species from colder climates before hitting the peak on the rhino and brownbear house. Behind the house and to its right is the taiga and tundra area that i allready have posted of and contained some of my first posts here. Moving down is the seal habitat with that spot of water. There you can go into the southamerican tunnel, that will spit you out on the bottom right in my southamerican section, which is my secound favourite part of my zoo besides the tropical house area.
Right now the plan for africa will be building a panorama view, for now including in the first step three habitats, the old cheetah and nyala habitat as the savannah hill, a wilddog cannyon and below the aviary will be a third habitat where i dont now the inhabitants yet, but i like most the idears of warthogs or hyeanas at this point.
I hope you liked my zoo and maybe i will even put up my own zoo thread where i will put some more pictures in from the areas in more details.

I like it and it's better than mine. You have it all built into the terrain, with hills and trenches. I never terraform guest areas, so it looks all flat

Thank you and dont worry, each start is hard.
I just had the fortune of doing something dumb the moment i started by spending all my time after the first ~8 hours the asian area and the the things around.
After spending about 20 hours there and having build some nice stuff on ground level for the visitors i started building a hill and by accident a tunnel. And now here i am going wild with terraforming everwhere since then. Maybe start with building some water trenches and lower habitats around your current area and lift it up with some hills behind, so it doesnt look to much like going from super flat to hilly

Hey, its me again :O

I will show you the meerkat castle. The enclosure has become too big again. I just can't build that tiny...lol. It's good that this zoo is built in sandbox, so I don't have to worry about all the "mimimi"s from the guests.
I'm pretty proud that the tunnels works. It was a lot of fiddling, but hey, that's the game :) i hope you like it

Every time I play PZ: "Okay, I got a plan, I'm gonna finish this habitat today"

Ten seconds later: "Cool, cool, but what if you added a detailed fence to this visitor area instead and worked the foliage and rocks around it?"

Me: "Oh right! I guess I'm gonna do that then!"

My Gemsbok waiting in the TC: 😐

Making small habitats is hard. I was having a look online at clouded leopard habitats in zoos, and most of them are pretty small (naturally, since the cats are pretty small), but it's difficult to do that in the game while making it interactive with all the climbing equipment. I've built and scrapped three habitats so far. I'm thinking I'll give up for a while and continue on the African section by the lions. I'm planning two big "plains" areas with the giraffes and white rhinos as the centrepieces for the habitats, largely inspired by Auckland Zoo's Pridelands.
