What did you do in Planet Zoo today?

I feel the same!!! I thought my 2gb integrated graphics on the laptop was alright, but seeing the difference on my 8gb graphics card; oh dang, it's awesome
Yeah that's another thing. I'll have to figure out the best graphics now...because I think my computer will be able to handle pretty much anything as far as the games I play. I'm "supposed" to be playing Cities Skylines 2 this weekend though..or should be anyways since that's why I got the new computer. Is Planet Zoo calling to me more though?

Well guys, thanks to orkans contest and marvins suggestion i got inspired to do a south american area while staying true to my "ideology" of staying organic and creating large side lines, so can you see it?
s1.jpeg

Maybe from here?
s2.jpeg

As you might have allready guessed, i started building a south america house on top of my hill. This means it is still in sight from many areas in my zoo, while also being isolated enough to be a contender for a mini zoo/zoo area competition. It also means theres a gorgeous view down the hill
s3.jpeg
But whats actually in it?
Well first of the hardest S of my life. Feel my pain
s.jpeg

I havent done much besides the rough building, the interior pathing and a water feature and one of 2 main stars, the fresh and new collared peccary!
Im super super happy to have them and i gotta say their traversable area is amazing, frontier outdid themself there. It feels just right to add them directly, as they have been one of my most awaited animals and it honestly still feels like a dream that we got them for free.
What an outstanding anniversary animal
s4.jpeg

And finally a last shot, just to hammer home the fact that making heavy use of the terrain tools really does pay of, even if trees are about half the visible area.

Im very glad to have this game and to see it still getting updated with so much love really warms my heart. I cant wait to see whats next and i hope maybe just maybe We will get even more great content through out the next years

With some actual effort put into building a zoo for a change, the first canyon of san diego zoo is complete. Its all great until i realise i have to go back up the other side in an even more complicated layout 😣 As difficult as it may look, its a great example of how i learn to build - the more difficult a zoo is, the more i learn in the process leading to better understanding of how complex zoo design works. One example of a new skill learned is the correct combination of kapok trees and custard trees in a hill side to simulate a lush tropical canyon.

Moving on from the rather depressing bear pits, there is a nice monkey habitat at the bottom of this canyon. Bamboo tower climbing frames, lots of vines and a multistage waterfall/rapids was a little challenge to build especially on an incline. Black and white ruffed lemurs will showcase this habitat:

Yo, Fini, I never woulda thought to make a solar energy power grid. Great idea

Of course! Who do you want to be?
(35 days of vacation, 40% home office is possible in administration, job ticket and job bike, 36 hour week.)

Thanks bud!
We got solar panels on the roof of our house two weeks ago, so I had the idea to do the same for the zoo.
It's really a huge topic at the moment in our country (apart from the two wars...😔)

Wait do zoos really breed their own livestock? :O
Ive seen it with feeder insects and rodents, but not with cattle and stuff
While i dont know it with cattle, most zoos breed their own chicken and chicks for feeding purposes, especally since the industrial chick killing ban in germany. In some zoos you can even go look at there pens, which tend to be much nicer then industrial chickens would have it

I even reloaded my game again for this. 😁

Also, I wanna share some updates. I won't be in character just yet, but hold on, you'll get it soon😎:

I'm building a section in Montego Bay Zoo I'm calling: Wild West. My first habitat is the armadillo

LOOK AT THE DETAIL!!! Who woulda thought that Quell, QUELL, could every share such high quality pics. Y'all, I'm so happy, and it gave a bit more life into PZ for me

I know that zoos do this with chickens, insects/rodents and goats/sheep. I can also well imagine that they have farms for the beef for the predators. Maybe not directly in the zoo, but they will certainly have farmers who supply them with the meat.
Then it occurs to me that I still need the halls for insects and a slaughterhouse (I already have cold storage facilities):
And I say that as a vegetarian, that's a bit paradoxical.

Building a slaughterhouse in a zoo also seems paradoxical :D

I love this! I think once you did all the decorations it gonna be a great South America house. I think the sloth would also fit perfectly in this but the building may be to small for the gigantic WE box. Anyways, I like the wall of the building and the peccary habitat. Great use of the temple rocks (?).

It looks so good. I always struggle to build those backstage staff areas and tend to just use the blueprints. Do you have any tips for building such good looking and well designed backstage areas?

Looks also really good. Probably your best work yet. I especially like the mesh viewing areas covered with the rock arches.

hey @DarthQuell, I need some help.

I have a section of a zoo I want to name after a real-life location. It has Red Foxes, Peccaries, Cougars, Armadillos, and Rattlesnakes. The two trickiest are the Foxes and Pigs because their ranges don’t overlap except for (I think) an extremely small spot near Austin Texas. Do you know of anywhere with a cool name that has both?

I don't know Austin too well, I've only been for work but never sight seeing.

But, outside of Austin, closer to Houston area, there's this rural town known as Chappell Hill. You could try that.
Or, alternatively, look towards San Antonio. There's a town that's also a famous ZZ Top song: La Grange.

You could also try San Marcos and/or New Braunfels. These 2 towns, in between San Antonio and Austin, are popular summer vacation places because they have rivers that people swim in. The real lazy river. The funny thing is that it passes right next, within view, of the very 1st Schlitterbahn, which is a chain of water parks🤣
