What did you do in Planet Zoo today?

That’s been me with new world monkeys and any “reasonable” bird pick. At this point you wouldn’t think they would go without one. Yet Zookeeper pack had neither. With the way things are I don’t even know if the next pack would either.

A squirrel monkey and American flamingo seem like such obvious and easy choices. Despite that even I’m beginning to doubt the possibility of their inclusion. That’s not to mention the black howler monkey, grey crowned crane, black swan, greater Rhea, etc. are also not out of the realms of possibility.

But if I know Frontier they like to surprise us, even if the choices leave us confused and scratching our heads.
IMO the American flamingo dream died when they gave us that stupid leopard for the anniversary.

UGH. Got that stupid rotation bug on habitat gates again. It bugs the whole save, which is super annoying, because it's nigh impossible to line it up perfectly with a grid when angle snap stops working.

Ngl american flamingo is overrated af.
If its not atleast the second bird in its release it wont be less dissapoiting then another cat would be, if not more, cause if we allready get 2 birds, why is one of them a freaking flamingo recolor over literally any other bird?
I made my peace with the rhea but i still dont get why anyone would want another flamingo when roseate spoonbill and scarlet ibis are right there to fill the role of reddish waterfowl on stilts but better and in more unique?

I agree there are animals that are more exciting. I’ve wanted another flamingo for awhile myself, in the same way it’s nice to have an Asian rhino species and an African rhino species, it’s nice to have an old world and a new world species of flamingo.

The reason I usually bring it up is because:
  1. It’s would be so easy to make
  2. It would give North America, South America, and the Caribbean its first bird species
  3. Frontier loves having multiples of certain animals for variety. So I don’t see why birds can’t have some of that luxury too.
Yeah I think the roseate spoonbill is a better option, the only thing I think they have “going against them” is they like to perch in trees a lot. Flamingos already work in game as is, so if we had to get a pink bird you would think the low effort flamingo would be a no brainer.

However, asking Frontier for more birds is like pulling teeth. Every once in awhile we get something amazing that is arguably a pack highlight, then we have to wait a year to maybe get another one. 🫠

I am a huge American Flamingo advocate, just because I use flamingoes alot as an entrance animal and the American one is just the colourful flamingo for me. Would also be nice for some variety.

Of course if it would be between Spoonbill/Ibis and the flamingo, I would choose the more unique option, but if another flamingo is the only colourful bird Frontier would be willing to give us, hell yeah I will take it. For me personally, it would be 1000x more useful than the Leopard that is only being held in Africa.

I get the reasons why it would make sense and as an anniversary animal it would have been a fine yet uninteresting addition, BUT we are way past the point where clones of this level are of any priority.
Any pack could be the last and in that enviroment any very cloney animal is just a waste.
We are way past the point where a more saturated flamingo is a great addition to the game, by now any slot counts to round out the games final roster and animals like the african leopard, american flamingo, humbolt penguin or european brownbear just simply do not accomplish that, especally when the flamingo has a perfect better alternative in the roseate spoonbill, that does everything it does better but in pink or the scarlet ibis for a bright red while also adding a smaller wetland bird, which would be extremly valueable.
The only animal with an easy stand in in game that gets a pass is the rhea imo, as it got a role to fill as a south american space filler and it just has next to no competition that gets even close to filling that role while also being into the top 25 most common zoo animals.

Frontier had 5 years to give us birdies and if the last 2 they give us are the rhea and american flamingo i wont lie id be major dissapointef

That wasn't why the leopard was disappointing. African leopards just aren't zoo animals. American flamingos are.
While true, a Persian or indochinese leopard would have sucked just as much for the simple fact that we allready got a leopard.
The worst sin of the african leopard is that the biggest difference is its name and while the flamingo can be differentiated in comor and site, it really isnt far off.
Still miles better but thats more because the african leopard was genuinly among the worst possible choices they could have made but welp frontier did a frontier

Maybe, but they also aren't very present in zoos, so I don't think it would be very different.

The biggest disappointment with the leopard was that it pandered to a small but noisy corner of the community and disregarded even more popular 1:1 reskins, such as the flamingo. In any case there's no question that the majority would have been happier with the flamingo for the sheer fact of it being a bird, even if it is just another version of a bird we already have. (And I'm saying this as someone relatively ambivalent towards a second flamingo).

Anyway, more on topic, I finished my lemur habitats and have moved onto the hyenas. My zoo is still wthout ammenities and it's stressing me out but my brain just does not want to produce nice looking buildings for some reason.

The hyena habitat is quite large but I'm thinking I'll start with a pair, let them breed until I've got four females, then get rid of the male and have a small family pack.

Edit: Also in both cases there is meant to be a visible difference between faux rocks and natural rocks, as the game intends. Both the lemur habitats and the hyena habitat are faux rock heavy, i.e. properly designed. The neighbouring cheetah habitats will be similar when I get to them. Lore-wise the hyenas and two cheetah habitats would have once been for bears.
