What did you do in Planet Zoo today?

Hey guys

Totally new to the forums, so please go easy on me :)

Planet Zoo is one of the best games I've ever played in my life. I'm not great at design, but I've been following a couple of the top designers on YouTube; a couple of those I like best are on here; DeLadysigner and PaulsLey. Both make really interesting and informative stuff ... and I've been trying to follow their tips for better designs. I'm never going to be one of those people who nominates his stuff for awards and such like ... but I enjoy this game so much and although I'm good at the game itself I want to make my habitats and my zoos look better all the time.

As you'll see from my screenshots, they are very basic, and very cluttered. Here's my current two; one based in the coldest climate and the other based on North American grassland. In the arctic one I tried to use only animals which can live in that terrain.

These are some overview shots of the arctic zoo. As you can see, my design skills aren't great ... it's a bit basic, but I really enjoyed putting this one together.

All my zoos are made in Challenge mode. I don't like having everything readily available to me in Sandbox ... I enjoy struggling at the start and trying to make the money to run a bigger and bigger operation.

What I really want to do is improve my design skills.

I wanted to highlight, in particular, the penguins exhibit which is naff...the viewing area is very unimaginative.

Now, watching the excellent tutorial videos from folks I mentioned I've been able to clean up that dirty looking water considerably, and put a bit more life into the exhibit itself, as I'll show you in the next post.View attachment 212461
Wow. Those are very nice

This is my other zoo, my US Grassland zoo. This is where I've really been experimenting with different design styles for my habitats.

Some (most) I kept pretty basic ... but I like what I did with my bears.

The Grey Seal enclosure at the top is not much to look at ... I put a little more effort into the underground viewing gallery. Still not at a high standard, but looks a look more inviting and a lot more interesting. And thanks to Delady I have the clear water :)

I'm pleased about my lion exhibit ... I put a bit more work into that than with the usual ones, based on some of the videos I watched. I think I'm getting better at making it look realistic, with the positioning of thet tress and plants and rocks ... it's also my first time building a sunken exhibit with a semi-hidden gate and surrounding it with something other than the standard fencing; the rope fence turned out to be higher than I'd have liked, but the overall effect isn't bad.

I just really love experimenting with this game ... and the game itself is fabulous. I am really looking forward to the next add-ons, the billboards and such like. I'll have a ball with those.

You sure you're not a professional? That's way better than my zoos

I did the last habitat for the European area. This is meant to be a large habitat where I can mix several forest creatures. At the moment, I'm using the pronghorn as if it was the red deer. On the right side, I've used the warthog as the wild boar, but they don't like having much trees, so my idea of a forest vibe didn't work. These habitats are probably going to be modified if we ever get forest animals, but I didn't want to have this huge spot empty in my zoo.

In the upcoming days I will be working on details around the zoo, on the entrance area and on the backstage areas. Then, once we know what the new DLC is, I'll move to build a new area for the zoo, leaving the Mediterranean style behind.

Nice. I really like the Tortoise enclosure

Thank you. I have a hard time with big buildings, but I'm quite happy with how the finished house looks. I have decided I will name it Buffay's Tortoise House after Phoebe Buffay from Friends (I'm a big fan of the show). :)

This is my progress so far: I have finished the house and I almost finished a habitat for the Himalayan brown bear (it needs just a few touches here and there). The Himalayan brown bear habitat is supposed to be a renovated one which I will indicate with custom signs when we get them in the game.

EDIT: Woops, there seems to be a problem with pictures.

@LaytonBhoy Welcome to the forums. We're happy to have you here. :)

Just got a new gamer pc yesterday! I can finally play on Ultra settings and admire the true beauty of this game. I really want to play but I am too excited for the new update/DLC to really start on any bigger projects. So I am mostly just trying to detail some older builds, now that I got a pc that can handle it and also just spending a lot of time looking at the nice graphic

In the end I ended up getting more done than I expected. I am back in ''The Dry Lands'', and finally found the inspiration to (almost) finish an enclosure I started working on in January. First thing you see in the African part of this desert zoo. The plan was a mixed exhibit for gemsbok, springbok and ostrich, as a desert alternative to a classic savannah enclosure. But I think I will wait and see what the DLC is about. Just in case some new African desert species shows up. An addax would look cool in here!

The picture might not be the best, hard to get a good angle.

I have finally returned to the game, didn't touch it since January! Yesterday, I worked on stabilizing the finances in my franchise zoo, and today I tried to improve the scenery rating of my buildings and facilities. What I find really hard is decorating the animal talks! I mean, you can't put too many things around them, because people need space?! But so far, the visitors seem to like the area and I even managed to sell a few penguins on the market. I also bought some cute dall sheep and will place llamas next.

I finally gave my zoo an entrance. I have to say that I am really suprised and proud of the result, since I hadn't really planned it much. I just started building, doing and undoing things until this came out. By the way, the zoo name is ZARPA, which means "paw" in Spanish.

I managed to get up to 64 in the aardvark community challenge. I admittedly rushed a bit in the last hour or so (was trying to get to the cc points at 67, but didn't quite make it). So I'll need to do a little clean up tomorrow. But for now: A break!

Hi, this is my first time posting on this thread. Just started a zoo yesterday, currently called the "Seattle Zoo" (name subject to change, I can't think of a more creative one at the moment). Yesterday I built the main entrance building and a gift shop, today I've built a restaurant, a Greater Flamingo habitat, and a backstage area with some off-exhibit enclosures (currently holding Red Pandas).
Edit: Apologies if the screenshots I attached aren't showing up. Still learning how the forums work.
