What do you miss from Alpha/Beta?

 • Thinner UI font

 • Servo whir on the multicannons much louder
 • Target range in metres not Km
 • Limited heat budget - eg hyperspacing in the initial Hauler balancing
 • 200km SC drop out range (no, not really!)
 • 20km SuperCruise Drop
 • ALL CAPS in the top right INFO box
 • The darker station interiors prior to the ambient environment light mapping changes.
I don't think the ship computer voice was colder prior to release, if anything I think it sounds colder and more compressed now.

- Slipping sideways full-pelt and managing to perfectly align with a target and smash him to bits, feeling "proper Elite"
- Iced-up cockpits
- Practising docking with no rotation assist because we thought we'd need to
- Being able to shoot cargo bay doors and pirate cargo without having to buy a "cargo hatch popper" module thing
- I think the biggest thing is the whole way Alpha and Beta supported a very quick, efficient, jump-in-and-enjoy-yourself play-style with no significant consequences to ship destruction. So the gameplay was fun and you didn't mind all that much when you got your backside handed to you. You'd take on anacondas; you'd try sneak attacks with everything powered off; you'd kick off outside a station and see if you and your mates could take on the feds; you'd try different things; you'd be a bit "out there" with ideas. And generally, it was fun, ignoring the plethora of bugs naturally (hey, it was a test phase after all)
- I miss the early (ie. crap) implementation of gimbals
- Having to stealth your way 20km into a station with naughty cargo on board

There are far more things I don't miss, thankfully, like face-planting into black asteroids, 1-second instaDeath, stuttering, spawning inside asteroids, stations disappearing and re-appearing with you bouncing around in their hulls, etc etc :D

I miss the larger selection of ship paintjobs that we had in Beta. National flags among them. I did secure my nation's flag color and pattern paintjob while they were available, fortunately.

EDIT: Iced-up cockpits are in-game again with the adjusted heat system. I tested my Asp with this a while ago, the windows iced up nicely.

This is still completely possible. I spent most of the Lugh CG pirating this way with a Sidewinder and 2x C1 Gimballed Burst Lasers for exactly this purpose.

I'm a beta backer, and I miss a lot of the things from beta,

We're still beta testing, aren't we ?

At least it still felt that way last time I played, I mean they haven't even got the Thargoids in yet ? or atmospheric flight ? or Surface landings, most of the ships are missing.....

And thats only the stuff that was in the previous game...
Hardly any of the new MMO stuff is properly working yet..bounty hunting doesn't work yet... And piracy in not fully implemented, neither is mining.

At least my imagination is still working...for now....

Cannons.

They used to be great, they were op on shields but if they had kept the rest of the cannon stats when they fixed the projectile weapons damage to shields they would still be a viable weapon to use instead of multicannons.

The freeport deathzones right before a new build were a lot of fun as well.

I miss last shot claims the bounty. No skill in bounty hunting at all now thanks to the cry babies!
Hell no, wearing down a ship all the way to 1% only for some NPC to shoot it once and claim the bounty instead was maddening. Though imo damage done should be more of a factor in deciding who gets the bounty.

Oh, really? Awesome, ok, apologies on that one! I must admit, piracy as a whole has got so ineffective and slow in progression that I haven't tried it for aaaaaagggeeees, but I stand corrected ;)

Point defense turrets now work against limpets so pirates have been hatch shooting for a while. Due to the ability to run away after interdiction easily most pirates don't bother with the cargo hatch and either ask for the mark to drop cargo or kill them. Hatch shooting and limpets are only really possible on new players on npcs.

I miss the very high likelihood of running into names you were familiar with from the forums. Though obviously it was to be expected as the game grew.

I hate hatch limpet breakers AND shooting the cargo hatch, when it comes to NPCs. It's ridiculous when an NPC hauler tries to kill you in your beefed up Vulture because you assaulted him for his cargo. In Beta 1 Haulers would drop cargo at around 20% hull and get the H outta there like a real trader, instead of a last stand suicide against a guy who'll do it a thousand times over to new traders.

I guess I'm just too angry about current NPC piracy, it's ridiculous right now. To add insult to injury, T7 NPCs like to roll endlessly and smash into the cargo I just pulled out through their hatch, killing my only profit.

I've not pirated since launch and tried it not 20 minutes ago against an npc hauler full of rares in my vulture. He sat shooting me whilst I scooped with his single pulse laser. Like seriously!

I ended up getting a murder bounty because he kept twisting every time I was under him. Clever enough to dodge but not to know when to run or at least drop then run.

I miss the (possibly illusory) feeling that our suggestions might have an effect on gameplay beyond "buff this" or "nerf that", on how actual features might be implemented or not.

I'd forgotten how haunted Dahan Gateway used to be. I was only caught up in its games a few times thankfully, but it always had me on edge. It could be amusing though if it shifted while you were making your approach - a massive jolt followed by a cloud of assorted cargo canisters as everyone inside was obliterated.

- Seeing players in haulers, sidewinders and cobras in open play

- Following players to find new trade routes

- Running the Freeport player blockade with a cargo of stolen gold and no fuel to get anywhere else

- The tension of the longer super cruise exit at stations, and the spontaneous player activity that could erupt there

- The last shot bounty, one of the most unique, brutal and defining mechanics of the game sadly now RUINED

- Getting pulled out of supercruise and having to run or fight. No mini game.

- Huge numbers of players in supercruise, all sorts of ships travelling to and from the war in Eranin, compared to vultures camping Lugh aound the clock in the current version.

- I miss the old community and the awesome discussions
