Personally, I'd suggest the way forward would be to create something (snip) which is targeted solely at PvPers from the outset.

The entire thing would need to be completely abstract from the rest of the game.
Pretty sure it'd be possible with a bit of creativity, though.
FD tried that with CQC. I quite like it myself but it isn't popular.

  1. Fix all the outstanding bugs/rough edges in EDO that plague nearly all aspects of the game, particularly the missions - we need a Beyond 2.0!
  2. Implement a proper AA solution
  3. Continued optimization
Honestly, if FDev did those three things, I would be content for quite some time!

But beyond that, I would add:

  • Implement space leg missions so that I don't have to return to the mission giver every time - annoying to do round trips for every mission!
  • list all missions - those for space legs and those for ships - on one integrated mission board. I hate having to leave my ship just to peruse leg missions. Why can't I just see all missions in one place? If a player doesn't have Odyssey, just gray-out the mission on the board!
  • More mission variety for legs and ships
That's it for me. The drama of the last 18 months has taught me to keep my wishes simple and safe. Others haven't learnt that lesson yet. 🤑

no way would frontier just make such a major DLC out of the blue based on complaining players..... this DLC was always on the cards imo we just didn't know when. ( anyone who followed the game knew it was coming at some point anyway)

that is not to say it couldn't have been done better

The issue we have as a dedicated audience is the misconception that FD are beholden to us, they are not. Their development plan is as Braben described ‘flexible’.

They are however a market driven entity. So if the ‘market’ says dancing emotes or ‘FPS’ are popular - that is what they will make. If another of their titles has potential to make more money - they will invest resources in that title, over other titles.

I agree they won’t build something because of a complaining community, but they are effected by the market.

Unfortunately the community is more at the sway of the lowest common denominator, so at best we can continue to remind FD with constructive criticism as they do read these threads.

But this all depends if FD feel ED has achieved its objectives, if from that perspective it’s performing as intended they are as likely just to maintain the status quo.

OK sure, I'll bite

1) Fix Hostile Rep Status: Make the Hostile rep state function the same as when Wanted, activating anonymity protocols to allow docking, deny most station services and make superpower Hostile rep apply universally for factions belonging to it.
2) Introduce the "Criminal Mission Board"; accessible when using anonymity protocols. Functions like a normal mission board, except instead of missions arranged by the local faction they help... arranged by the local faction they hinder. Missions are offered by anonymous contacts instead of faction representatives, and mission payoff increases based on how bad your rep is with that faction
3) Military Career Path, perhaps as part of a Powerplay rework... first-pass would also be a mission board offered through a (local superpower or powerplay) contact, which offers missions to disrupt activities of other neighbouring superpower-controlled factions or powers.
4) Tier 2 NPCs; Odyssey gets part-way there with the concourse/base mission contacts, but they need to be fleshed out with proc-gen services offered by these contacts, access based on reputation with that individual, services could include purchase of goods otherwise illegal in the system, wiping a level of notoriety by expending rep, limited pre-engineered tech broker services etc.
5) More utilisation of extant mechanics in procedural/dynamic ways.
Superpowers should mean something, but for some reason do not. I wrote this ages ago https://forums.frontier.co.uk/threa...ignment-numbers-have-bgs-consequences.543240/

You could really have fun with having to balance your rep (and thus keep sweet with everyone) or go all in with one.

Consequences might be less / more security scans, unlock ships (and if your rep changes you get double scans due to sus activity flying that s.powers ships).

SRV Engineering: A new engineering system for SRVs with modules. Have the Scarab/Scorpion (and the new rumoured Rhino) as chassis options and then outfit and engineer them the same as ships. Thruster upgrades to increase grip/downforce on low G planets, PD/PP engineering to increase capacitors, options to increase scanning range or have specific outfitting to make exobiology easier more fun, or armour/weapon upgrades for the Scarab to make combat easier more fun.

Odyssey Engineering Overhaul: The current system is a joke, material gathering is a nightmare and the costs are ridiculous (like why does a G3 pre-engineered rocket launcher cost more than some medium sized ships?). You have no space in your backpack (intentional) to gather materials which in turn forces you to grind materials to increase your backpack capacity so you can then farm more materials etc etc. It needs a complete rework.

Ship Interiors: If Scam Citizen can raise $500m without even releasing the game then im pretty sure we can cobble together enough money between us to pay a dedicated team of developers to make ship interiors. There really is no excuse any more from FDev other than "we cant be bothered".

I would pledge.
I would even buy ship interiors as a full price DLC.

The moral of this thread is never ask a bunch of randoms what they want.
FD just need to design their product how they feel it should be, and If I don't like it I'll play something else.
that is the double edged sword / shoe on the other foot / insert what ever here - of them getting players to pony up front via kickstarter pledging far more than the base cost of the game by teasing loads of cool stuff they want to put in to the game but only if they hit their money goals.

(some) Players get invested and have an annoying habit of actually trying to hold them to their pitch

I do in general agree with you............ make a game, once it is finished, then market the game they have made and sell it based on that, and people can make their choice on whether to buy or not.

in general not many games go this way any more however, and almost all games - at least big budget ones - release in an unfinished state now hoping to give players enough of a taste to hook them, with the "promise" of more jam tomorrow in one way or another.

That being said....... this is the official forums for the game. of course people are going to chat about stuff like this.

... At the very least: When I click disembark, I rise from my chair to my feet. Walk to the door at the rear of the cockpit, and interact there (same as the concourse elevators) and fade to black at the exterior door of my ship. I then am in control to walk down the stairs/ladder to the surface. ...
There's the problem with these ideas. I don't doubt that you'd like that, but I think it would get old very quickly! If it was an option I'd have it turned off after doing the routine about 3 times.

Indeed.

The fundamental issue is one of taking stuff away that people already have.
Doing that is a bad thing.
Quite - noting that those who propose that <insert existing pan-modal feature(s) here> be made Open only don't seem to care about that - they don't seem to consider that players not in Open have any right to affect "their" feature(s). Also noting that we all bought the game on the same terms and that other players (some of whom are the ones making the proposals to remove content from other players) remain an optional extra with the galaxy still being shared between all players.
Personally, I'd suggest the way forward would be to create something like Powerplay (I guess Powerplay, itself, could be re-purposed but that goes straight back to the issue of taking stuff away from people who already have it) which is targeted solely at PvPers from the outset.
Indeed.
Problem is, of course, that you can't reward PvPers with "stuff" that they could take out into the rest of the game that'd grant them some advantage.
The entire thing would need to be completely abstract from the rest of the game.

If an Open only feature were to be introduced from scratch then it should not affect those who don't engage in it in any way - so no BGS effects (nor affected by the BGS), etc..

Getting from the "blue circle" to the lift in dock got old very quickly, especially in the Cutter. If such a feature was introduced in a subsequent DLC and could not be disabled then it would encourage players not inclined to walk through their ship every single time they want to enter or leave it to not play that version of the game and stick with Odyssey, some of the time at least.
