What has ED forced you to do?

I don't know about forced, but ED gave me a great excuse to upgrade my old dusty PC with a new motherboard, CPU, GPU and monitor. ED now plays, looks and sounds rather nice indeed. And after trying out the TM Warthog I've had to get one those as well.

And I haven't even got an Oculus Rift yet...

It forced me to go out into my shed and dig out my x52. There are probably spiders out there... and where would Frontier be if I got bitten?? Huh ?? Paying my medical bills?

Forced me to buy Trackir 5 (getting it today).

New GPU
Logitech 3D Pro (because X55 were on back order!)
Logitech G13
Saitek X55
Saitek Rudder Pedals

Contemplating a separate gaming system.../facepalm

An XBox 360 controller and the purchase of a good graphics card (coming later).
I upgraded my PC, but I would have done anyway with or without ED (ED just accelerated the intent)

Im no Gamer.... not al all.... my favourite games are Word, Exel and Outlook.

So I did awful things:
New Rig: 1000€
New Monitor (3d) 300 €
Track Ir 200 €

looking for NVIDIA 3 D Glasses

Just for the sake of old lank sign

But it's worth it. Really!

I cant't even look up to the moon on nightshift without thinking:" frameshift engage"

I have been 'forced' to:

  • buy a Windows gaming machine (not owned a Windows box since 2005!)
  • pledge money to kickstarter
  • buy an X52 Pro
  • needed a new laptop recently, bought a Macbook Pro and went for the Retina with the 2Gb Nvidia 750M (see here for the results)
  • caused friend and family rows, split with the girlfriend to get more quality time with Elite (just kidding! I wish I had more time for it!)

I'd like to add not doing homework to the list, but that was back in the 80s ;)

So far...

£100 Elite Dangerous
£125 NVidia GTX 660
£57.50 OCZ Mini-SATA SSD (180Gigs)
£about 10 or so for Voice Attack

Looking at

AMD FX-8350 or better
more HD space (my 1TB HDD is starting to fill up)
Maybe a TrackIR? Freetrack is too messy and inaccurate for my liking, and the OR is not yet developed as far as I would like.
Considering a HOTAS setup with rudder pedals.
Possibly replace the 660 with a higher-level 760 (or 770) or 8 series GPU in future.

Oh...

And a new speaker system is definitely on the cards, though I haven't decided what yet.

2000$ for a PC (I wanted a new one anyway, but ED made me pull the trigger a lot sooner than I would have.)

150$ for ED

150$ for Trackir

100$ for a suitable Headset for Trackir

140$ for X52 Pro

200$ New Monitor

5$ Voice Attack

3$ for the cool Voice Responses for Voice Attack

+1 to the "forced" to buy a new joystick (x55) group.

Sidenote...
Saitek must be happy with the upcoming release of FDs ED and RSIs SC.
It seems their products are out of stock at lot of stores recently. :)
