It has given me an excuse to spend about $5k on new hardware.

It has forced me to consider early retirement so I can play the game all day.

Out with the old life, in with the new :)

ED has forced me to:
- Spend almost 2k on a new gaming rig
- Buy a Saitek X55
- Buy a 7.1 surround headphone/mic headset
- Buy an EDTracker
- Buy an Oculus Rift DK2 (still waiting)
- Pay more for a game than I've ever paid for before (Premium Beta).

Still, for me, it only comes around once every 30 years....

For the first time since 1999, I bought current generation hardware. And that's after getting a quite workable Core 2 Duo only a year ago. :D

And oh boy, is this i7 / GTX 770 rig fun to use. :D

It has forced me to occasionally visit this forum for news and some you-tubing. Other than that, pretty much nothing in particular. Sorry.

ED Forced me to relive the happy days I spent playing the original Elite on my little 48k speccy.

Apart from that, nope, nothing to report :D

ED has forced me into getting the Oculus Rift, and move everything into our dark loft. Where I intend to live the rest of my life in the virtual world.

It forced me:
to rewatch all my favorite sci-fi series including SG:U and BG:)
to buy a saitek x52
to buy another copy of the game to my girlfriend, as I saw we need to move our life into the virtual world:)
to buy a satiek x55 couse we need another joystick:)

And It's going to force me as soon as I have sg to force to:D
buy an occulus rift DK2,
Build a cockpit
Buy 2 finished Occulus rift or the DK3:D
Build another cockpit
Dissapear from the real world;)

Hmm...

Premium Beta £100
T-shirt £18
Sidewinder paint job £2
Corsair power unit £70
New nVidia GPU £387
HOTAS £45
Voice Attack £5

Now looking at a new Motherboard + i7 and a new gaming case because this game runs hot!

I'm just setting up Voice Attack this morning, still on holiday. What an amazing bit of software. I've set up 53 voice commands, so far, and they all work. I've tried to keep to simple one or two-word commands but it is very good indeed. I am astounded that it even works with the UI Panels. What a great help that will be.

as for me my boss thinks im the best guy in the world now
I work all the overtime going
im calm cool and collected
a totaly different bloke
the reasons
1) I need the cash to buy new bits
2) I release all my pent up aggression blowing up things in space rather than larraping the bejezzus out of the machines at work with a hammer
3) all I think about is ED so I do the job on autopilot

even the sig other has noticed
but I suspect she likes the money as well

New rig (1000), game (100). New Playstation 4 (400) so I can play on the PC, speakers (100) so I can hear the engines.
X52 or similar is next.
To be honest other than the game all other expenses would have happened anyway

Seriously though - its forced me to have fun

Best 100 quid I have ever spent on gaming software. Just to be a part of the KS and these forums and paying/testing this game has been a fun roller coaster ride.

It looks my investment was rather modest
  1. PB1, 120 euros.
  2. Ed-tracker, 35 euro
  3. Logitech extreme 3D Pro joystick, 50 euros
  4. Saitek X52 (NOT pro) flight stick, 110 euros
  5. Saitek X-55 flight stick, 200 euros
  6. 'Medication' (leaves) to make the grinding more bearable
  7. Beer, booze etc. Well actually probably would have bought that any way ;-)

The X-55 was not for sale for a while so bought the X-52 one. Now that it is in stock again I ofc have to buy the X-55 ;-)

Special Award (a fine bottle of Lavian Brandy(virtual)) for the following humorous replies:

Become a Moderator and lose the last shreds of sanity I had left.....
- sorry Jenner, there can only be one!

Divorce wife, send kids to orphanage, quit job, remodel front room in the style of a cobra cockpit and lie on the Internet.

Drink even more. I've lost sixteen ships so far due to my inability to drink and fly. Playing sober is pleasant and cost effective but not real fun.
- not that we endorse drinking and flying, hmm maybe the 'prize' is not suitable for you good sir? How about a virtual Fluffy Dice?

i've not played eve for a month!!!!

for me thats a !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
- Indeed!

It has made me buy my first ever PC after a life of only Commodores and Macs.
I am still recovering.
- i can feel that pain!

For David Braben and Elite I journeyed into the depths of Hull.
- That bad?

FD forced me to do it..... I assume it was FD that was the little voice in my head.... either way.... THEY ALL HAD TO DIE....

:D
- It's going to be ok, just put down the joystick and slowly make your way outside. Breath in that fresh air, relax. It was just a bad dream. Too much gaming can do that too you.

Learned to eat toast and drink tea in the dark whilst docking and/or in combat.
- and a most useful pilot skill it is too.

For all the terrible stories of financial outlay (and hardship), i can only offer my commiserations. We are all in that boat together. Chin up.
