What is the name of your exploration ship?

Some great names here - obviously explorers are an imaginative bunch:D My three are...

DBX - IEV (Independent Exploration Vessel) 'Golden Gobbo' - Gobbo being Italian for hunchback, and when I bought her you could have any colour you liked as long as it was yellow.
AspX - IEV 'Vance Garamond' - after the hero of Bob Shaw's 'Orbitsville', about a spaceship Captain who discovers a Dyson Sphere. We live in hope...
Clipper - IEV 'Lapthorn's Nutshell' - Lapthorn after an old friend who always yearned to see the next horizon, and Nutshell from the line in Hamlet, "I could be bounded in a nutshell, and count myself a king of infinite space."

The first exploration ship I had was a Type 6 I named "Matchbox" because I only had enough money for one re-buy after purchasing the stock version and the first time I fired up the FSD "Betty" was giving me heat warnings and smoke was coming off the console! It later became the first ship I flew out of the bubble. That seems like years ago...wait a minute...that WAS years ago :D

My current exploration ship, an AspX is named "The Questioning Mind". This old bird's been around the block a time or two and was part of the Distant Worlds Expedition, and it's the only ship allowed to have the decal from that trip.

I'm prepping a new stripped down, hopped up DBX for exploring the fringe areas and it's going to be called "DeepScan One".

Whoops - I used IEV as "Imperial Exploration Vessel" for some of my ships. Like the IEV Skidbladnir, first Gutamaya ship to make it to the farthest reachable system - named after the best-wrought ship in Norse mythology.

Some other names I'm fond of:
"Horizon Signal"
"Replacement Goldfish" - A Diamondback Explorer I cobbled together at Jaques Station from left-over modded parts, instead of transferring my "main" DBX there
"Offensive Language"

Anaconda - Gentle
Diamondback Explorer - Forliger (this is a ship which has been places and done things)
Asp Explorer - Bright Star
Orca - Hecate (the ship I'm flying now, possibly the first Orca to reach Beagle Point)

What have you done with the RV Sonnenkreis?

I'm currently flying the (Unapologetic) Lifer For Rock'n'Roll - the rest are in my sig.

Really because I never renamed it from my combat loadout, my Anaconda is the R.S.A.V. Eclipse. (Research, Science, and Assault Vessel) My Asp is The Enterprise, and my DBX is the L.R.R.V. Osprey. (Long Range Research Vessel)

Asp X that took part in the Distant Worlds Expidition: TARDIS - for Traveling A Ridiculous Distance In Space, as well as a reference to a particular TV series that has been on the air for a few years that I quite enjoy.

To quote from my Circumnavigation run:

The new Anaconda… it is times like this that I wish that F:D allowed for non-Western scripts for ship names, especially given the inspiration and theme for the character. The name of the new ship, if I’d had my way, would have been written as:

放蕩者の茶会

or, in romanji, Houtou Mono no Chakai, or for a translation, Debauchery Tea Party. (Though I like Google Translate’s version: “Tea Party of the Ruthless”.) Thus, the name of my ship. The name is appropriate, because of what I try to do in-game.

Do what few can, do what few dare, and have fun doing it.

My trusty Asp Explorer had no name when I embarked on the Distant Worlds Expedition. That was my first real taste of exploration. I'd never really kept a ship long enough (before I traded up) to consider naming one before that.

Eventually, I settled on "Into the Black" which seemed fitting. Later, I spent an inordinate amount of time engineering her (to jump 56.14 lys), until we both could go on the Distant Stars Expedition. You'll find me in the expedition rosters as CMDR Topaz the Grouchy. (Yes, I was in a bad mood the day I picked my commander name. :D)

She's not just my "exploration ship"; she's my favorite ship and the one I mostly fly.

Hehe - that's why I thought I'd better spell it out for mine, since 'Imperial' seems like a more natural guess than 'Independent'. Wouldn't want people thinking I was taking sides :D

Also, 'Replacement Goldfish' is a great name, two thumbs up [up][up]
