What is this??

I've found a few outposts like this as well.
Nothing visible/targetable/scannable in the center.

Really? I have never seen a station orbiting the primary star of a system.

Found one! Wasn't as near to Kaukhe as I remember, so there is probably another one close by. This is Culpeper Landing, in Didavas.

This one is not orbiting a star; it is orbiting a yet-undiscovered body.

Warinus in the Lave system is an example of a station orbiting a star.

There's one near Kaukhe. Can't remember the name of it, or the name of the star system, but I was there a couple of days ago. If I find it again, I'll post the system.

True, turns out this is what the system looks like fully scanned. I just went there to make sure it's not one of the rare stations actually orbiting a comet, which wouldn't appear on the system map:

But still thanks Tesrin for going through the trouble of looking for one :)

Also turns out Warinus really is orbiting the primary star:

Again proof that my memory is completely useless, since I was in the Lave system many times before but never noticed this or completely forgot about it.

It's a Thargoid plot. They've developed technology that can instantly steal planets without disturbing the orbits of their stations.

I see them fairly often, not very rare TBH. Mostly just stations orbiting stars, but in game they look like this, doing their little circles... :)

Isn't a comet that doesn't move technically an asteroid? Okay, yes, everything in space is moving relative to everything else and the comet would be orbiting its parent star, but wouldn't it also have a tail? Or is it too far away from it's parent star for a tail to form?

The comets only exist as mass at the moment - there are no visuals.

wow .. (comets confirmed) .. seriously .. (this game)

Probably not, but moving them would be risky, so they'll stay where they are.

Michael

edit ---

as long as the mass of the comet >= mass of the station (and angular momentum is low-ish) I'd suggest they stand a chance of orbiting each other under micro gravity .. especially if the station maintains orbit with thrustering.

Comets have been teasing us with their existence since they appeared on the First Discovered spread sheet released just prior to 1.1
