What is your biggest gripe while using VR?

My biggest gripes are:

-VR face and hair. I know there's a way to adjust the headset so it doesn't leave marks but I just throw it on and go. I usually don't use it for at least an hour before I have to go anywhere. But if we get food delivery the wife usually makes me get the door so you know...:D

-The cable. No usually an issue with getting wrapped in it but I have to make sure I don't run it over with my chair when I get up.

-My chair/Hotas set up. I added mounts to my office chair for my Hotas and they work great for ED. But horrible for everything else I need to use my chair for. The Hotas sits up too high and too far forward so it always hits the desk if I want to get close. They're in the way if I want to play a shooter with the touch controllers. I got a second chair for normal pc operations but space is a bit of an issue with my computer desk and the area around it.

-Cleaning the lenses. I'm with the person that said they have to clean them every 5mins. Yeah its a pain and can never find my lense rag.

All that said though I love VR. Best impulse buy I've made. I almost never play 2d games anymore.

If you are using a rag, even microfiber ones, will sooner rather than later not clean anything and just smear the dirt and skin oils around the lenses.

Use disposable lens wipes from your local optician that would actually remove the dirt, should give you a few more hours worth.

Ah good call. The wife wears glasses so ill have her pick up some next time

I'd like to change my initial comment!

My biggest gripe with VR is trying to get a drink! I just spent 2 hours cleaning my keyboard... So clumzy. I should invest in a cup with a straw.

see post 71^
Receiving a third replacement (reconditioned) and finding it doesn't work for yet another reason - issues due to faulty part/loose inside headset when adjusting straps or position
... no it wasn't the CV1 plug/cable coming loose and yes I did try restarting/re-installing it - and no I didn't stamp on it nor hit it with hammer..

Yet!

Bottle, drink from a bottle, being a wine snob I always decant my wine into a un-rinsed recent beer bottle :))

I use an old sauce jar, Uncle Bens or Dolmio.
I go through a few of them in a week, just pop a hole in the middle of the lid with a sizeable screw driver. And presto almost spill proof cup.

I have seen similar products for $20, this is £2 and I get dinner as well ;)
I also prefer disposable straws , I don't want coffee tasting like OJ or vise versa.

Bottles are good, pouring liquid into botlles can be tricky.

I put in 4-6 hours of VR in Elite nightly. My biggest gripe is that I need third party apps to find anything in the Galaxy. Everything in the game needs to be accessible from the cockpit. Give us a Galaxy map that is as useful as EVE Online's. Why are Material Traders hidden until you discover them? It doesn't add any layer of mystery or exploration as I am just going to have to open EDDB or INARA and do a search (having to take off my HMD). I have no problem touch-typing, but an onscreen keyboard would be a good idea as well.

OP.
My biggest gripes are:

  • Resolution / picture quality isn't as good as a monitor
  • Typing in chat is a right pain, especially as I have to take my glasses off for VR
  • can't easily access youtube etc in an immerisve way
  • can't pick up and play - need to prep to make sure everything is to hand b4 I start a session

All that said, the advantages & immersion far exceed my gripes. I don't often play outside VR nowadays.

why not try my spectacletastic glasses mod to help you see your keyboard.

For the Oculus Rift I bought a "VRCover" set (https://vrcover.com)
I bought a faceplate with leather fitted and two extra leather trimmings, small and large. The stock leather is fantastic, Comfortable and no more Itchy Nose. Also way less fogging.
c) you can add washable "socks" delivered with vrcover for hygienic reasons
The cloth cover is not worth the money, it doesn't fit properly, its to large and obscures vision, comes adrift easily due to poor attachment design.

Thanks for the info though, the leather trimming is worth the money, should be standard issue.

Honestly, my biggest gripe is the lack of depth and clarity compared with 2d, even running the same settings, everything just looks worse, and to me, looks kind of flat and 2d. Whereas playing on a big screen everything is much crisper and to me at least feels more immersive and has greater visual depth.

While there are other oculus titles that really pull me in and make me feel like I'm there, elite just doesnt, probably the lack of support for the touch controls doesn't help (that being said, I don't think I'd want to have to physically reach out and press every button!).

HOTAS, voiceattack, and that’s half your problems solved...by you.

Bought the Rift......... now with all the graphics/drivers issues ..... I should probably have bought the HIVE instead!

Lol, the Vive has issues that aren't even resolved.

I had 0 issues getting the Rift setup and running, I was just not happy with the image quality and until someone releases a 1600p headset that doesn't use fresnel lenses I'm not sure I'll ever be happy. The PSVR doesn't use fresnel lenses and has a lower resolution and from my friends that have used both the rift and PSVR they have said the PSVR looks a lot better, and it's only running like 1080p I think?

I wish... "I could plant a feather and a chicken would grow".

I wish Sony would make a stand alone headset for PC's with their current PSVR tech but with a much wider FOV, I would buy one in a heartbeat.

The galactic map. Im on the edge to just stop playing, i´ve been trying to plot route to SOL for the last 15 minutes. I search it on the galmap, but the god damn map doesn´t select that system, but some other system that perhaps was closer in the interface or i don´t even know. How hard would it be to actually select the system the player searched in the damn search bar? If i type "SOL" it´s safe to say i want to target that, not nuenets or something completely different.

You must remember to select the dot at the end of the line that drops down from the star. Set a controller for zoom, pan left right, move left right and up and down. Once you get the idea it isnt too hard. System map you zoom out then use left/right up/down to select your target.

Works fine for me. Type Sol - get Sol.... Dunno what the issue is there for you, have you enabled grid mode in the last Galaxy map tab and bound the galmap binds to your HOTAS?

Also, if Sol is a system you use regularly, bookmark it and give it a meaningful name. You'll soon build a library of systems you can just select from a list.
It took me a few days of trial and error to get my Warthog set up to use the Galmap effectively. Once you do though, you won't go back.
