What is your Elite Quirk?

Well this reply post is all about me as in I, so:

I always spin so the star is above my ship when scooping. Pythons got scoops on the roof anyhow...

I also always throttle to half blue and lock in orbit until fully scooped.

I always honk and always FSS.

I always deep scan ELW or WW. Sometimes the others.

I always look for RAXXLA.

My quirks...hmm...

Well, I do the 'enter hangar' thing myself. Something peaceful about it? I suppose a sense of 'closure' for a gaming session. If I'm in space, I very rarely remain there. Particularly in the black. I will keep jumping/scanning until I find a landable planet, land, and then log out. Something in my head says it would be hard to sleep to the itinerant noises of a ship in space as opposed to one sat on terra firma.

I love extra switches and bells and whistles in simulators, always have, so I prolifically use my external lamps and night vision even when it isn't needed. In the SRV, I use the headlamps on low during low-light, high on the dark side, and off during daytime. If I'm doing a covert scan mission of some type, I kill the lights and only use night-vision / standard vision in the SRV and keep the lights off. Nevermind my SRV uses a glowing paintjob!

I wait until IFO or whichever flight control is speaking to finish speaking before I request docking. This has led to many fines as I get too close to the toaster rack while being 'polite' and not interrupting them. I've gotten to where I intentionally come at an angle to stations where I have more distance so they have more time to speak. Planetary stations, I come in at a lower angle so there is more flight time for the same reason.

I only explore in fully equipped (and armed) ships. This leads to obvious losses in jump range (especially in a Corvette) but has also allowed me to take on pirates interdicting me on the way home. Nothing is quite as satisfying as picking a fight in a DBX while carrying several million in data, or absolutely melting hostiles at a nav beacon and adding some bounties to that data before I tuck in for the session.

One of the reasons I love my DBX so much is that, with so many slots, there's lots to fiddle with. Like the headlamps, I'll often 'power down' almost all systems when I log off when in the black. When I log back on, I sometimes turn the 'flight check' back on. Gives a sense of preparation for another round of many jumps and potential near misses with stars while ogling GalNet. I very much wish the game had more of these 'not necessary but immersive' features. It's what makes a simulator so fun!

Hmmm... personal quirks while playing ED. 🤔
  1. While scooping I think I tend to keep the bottom or the top of the ship towards the star when scooping for any length of time.
  2. My "fleet" tends to be geared mainly around multi-purpose builds with only a few exceptions.
  3. As a VR user, I tend to find myself leaning or turning my head slightly during turns.
  4. I try to keep all my ships in the same system if not in the same region of the given system

I have a quirky fondness for the Asp Scout.

That's me with the Adder. Something about those horrible blind spots and the sense of being in an airplane, not a space craft. I love it. I also love the multi-crew seats, though I always fly alone. I think its because the cockpit is so small still that the space feels more authentic and immersive. After the DBX, my favorite ship is the Beluga Liner but that's because I love its exterior. The interior bridge is beautiful but also rather empty. The Adder feels like a complex craft on the inside.

Now that I'm thinking about it, I might love my DBX because of the silly keyboard and various screens in the walls.
I like busyness I guess. Probably why I like the Krait Mk. II, too, but only for flying not actually doing something! I guess that's a quirk?

Honestly, I love a lot of the small ships and wish they had more utility in late-game activities. I try to run a few easy missions on my whole fleet when I start getting bored of whatever I'm currently grinding/working on. Driving an SRV out from under the tiny belly of an Eagle or Adder never gets old for me. When I was in witch-head for all that nonsense, I intentionally bought new small ships out there just to freshen things up. Kinda role-played that my AX Alliance Chieftain wasn't the right ship for repair and refugee work (darn you military slots!), so I built an Adder for ferrying refugees and a Hauler for supplies.

Great fun but made hardly any credits of course.

Yeah all my ships have a role too. Problem is when you want to use different ships for the same role, that's when multiple accounts happen :( (similar to multiple tank syndrome if this has ever happened to you).

My only quirk is actually enjoying supercruise to look out at the stars. Something about being in space. Apparently no one does this however because that's the first thing frontier made obsolete via the fss.

I also like pressing boost constantly as close the surface as you can even in a type 10. Can do this for way too long.

I also hate quite strongly the dbx and krait phantom.

I really miss the adder. For a good part of year when stacking skimmers was the fun thing to do it was the best little explode your way home missile boat. The aircraft like cockpit is brilliant. Those were very fun days.

I hope with space legs all the progression ships will be interesting again with interiors.

Thank you.

It is one of I guess my quirks (lol) that I won't get upset if a Commander likes a ship I don't, or dislikes a ship that I enjoy. Everyone in this game plays this game different, some radically different, some so minor one would have to look closely. But suffice to say, no one plays the game 100% like someone else. For example, I have never flown a Crusader, Challenger, Chieftain, Anaconda, AspS, FAS, FDS, FGS, and either of the Vipers. Not saying they aren't good ships, just not ships I am interested in.

Got to say, this thread continues to surprise me lol

I still like to say its good to give the ships at least a go at least once to kick the tires. The cockpits are worth a look at least.

Re the anaconda.. its a bit cheezy and boring sure, but when you're looking at it from the buggy outside (with a low fov or vr) its becomes undeniable. The only reason i played it more extensively was if you put 6d thrusters on it handles quite sluggishly.. unlike the drifty python it usually feels like (ie, boring :)). Or about the same as a corvette with added drift?

I can't leave an occupied pod if i have cargo bays fitted but no room I'll abandon a cargo unit of something to take the pod doesn't matter where or why im there i feel bad if don't rescue them.

However any npc with the same name as the one who shunted me in the mail slot gets lit up. I have incurred bounties over this, ... petty I know but can't help myself

When I stop playing the game I make sure all the pictures hanging on my ship walls are are off-level by 4 degrees. I also make sure my ship is floating in space in open near a CG.
