It's a tad more draughty around where I am
You have to love the North Sea ... Some of the worse seas I have ever been in .... Doing a JMC one year we ended up having to go in to the Norwegian Fjords for shelter, they wouldnt cancel the exercise but it was getting too rough for some of the older frigates .....It's a bit more windy around where I am

That was strangely poetic, askavirIf you like monster waves, you must come and visit Portugal. Bring spare underpants.
I've been on that lighthouse to watch the phenomenon just 2 weeks ago, and it's farting terrifying. Those surfers are mad. Mad I say.
Those titanic waves are caused by a massive underwater canyon (which we call "The Nazare Cannon") that ends just in front of that lighthouse, reducing depth abruptly from over a thousand meters to just a few dozen meters. Whenever there is a storm in the north atlantic, the water is pushed through the underwater canyon towards the shore and when it reaches the end, the water is pushed upwards. When the right conditions are met, colossal walls of water capable of making Triton himself defecate his pants spawn just a few hundred meters in front of the lighthouse and crash upon the shore with all-mighty fury.
Man I can't really express how terrifying it is to watch those liquid behemoths approaching the shore. The sound they make when they crash upon the shore resembles a small volcanic earthquake...That was strangely poetic, askavir![]()
