What other games are we all playing?

I've just loaded up and started playing Metro: Exodus.

Overall it's very good. The open'ish areas are good fun to explore, the story feels solid and interesting, and the introduction (tutorial) to the gameplay is very gentle with pieces being added very gradually.

I waited to buy a new PC with ray-tracing before downloading the game (I got it in a decent sale a while back with all its DLCs) - and it's good, although perhaps not quite as graphically breath-taking as I had hoped. Still, it's great fun, even if the lip-syching is absolutely dreadful, and I'm enjoying exploring this new game world for the first time.

It's different enough to the other Metro games to be interesting, yet similar enough as well. I do enjoy the 'hud-less' interface as well.
I usually play in the original Russian language with English subtitles (since my Russian isn't quite good enough to play without)...Lip synching is pretty spot on then. The conversations make a bit more sense as well as sounding a bit less like the actors are reading direct from Google translate :)

Haha, reminds me when I wanted to try czech subtitles in KCD and then the UI went Czech and I was like "OK, which was the settings button again"...

That's the spirit. Almost Teladi. Look for the margins. But low capital at start means bulk cargo. Missions might make some. I picked up some simple ones along the sector exploring. Potentially hitting some main story thread. There is lockboxes, too, but I blew myself up with one.

Also nividium automining. After having flown around an mined crystals and nividium for a few days in a Drill, I've hopped in a fighter and went for different adventures leaving the Drill to do the work on itself. It's racking up 4-600.000 cr every few minutes (15-20 at a guess), with just some managing from time to time when the trading station it is delivering to stops buying nividium, then I'll have to move it to some other station. It won't make you rich in an hour but it's easy automoney. Also, when at the very start also look around for data vaults: not only do they unlock some neat clips of backstory in the Encyclopedia timeline, they also release some honest sums (100-200.000 cr).

Overall I'm really enjoying the pace of it, plenty of opportunity (so far) to stealth my way around as best I can, and I'm enjoying the more open-world aspects. The crafting and weapon system works well too.

I remember reading Metro 2033 after playing the first game(s?) and found the book and game very closely aligned. It gave me plenty of 'No... don't go in THERE...' moments whilst reading it.

Calling all Space Engineers! Or at least the ones who can temporarily distract themselves from grinding ED, playing Fallout 76, Green Hell, NMS, X4 or whatever new/updated title you're obsessing yourself over atm

Now then: are you a XBX1 SE gamer who has always wanted to build their own functional ship in 10 mins? Wanted to but lacked the DIY know how? Then bookmark this link:

Right. Now off with you. Back to whatever non SE game universes you were vacationing in

Calling all Space Engineers!
I do enjoy SE, but I wish the game world was more alive. Give me some animals like NMS or Minecraft (not stupid wolves / spiders), and give me some proper NPCs rather than soulless drones. The game world is just so EMPTY and lacking purpose...

This is why I am so excited about Starbase - it's like Space Engineers MMO, which could be downright epic! Do we have a release date for this game?

"From the depths" maybe? Or looking for classic NPC in a builder?

SE is very much like ED in that there are outposts and stations, but they are 100% empty of people. Same with ships. I'm tired of my space games being empty of people. It's like the entire galaxy is suffering from the COVID pandemic. :(

I'd also like more animals and life in general down on the earth and alien planet. I do enjoy Minecraft and NMS planet-side, and it would be nice if SE felt more "alive" in this regard. Just empty fields with a few trees gets boring quick.

Ye, I think it's not so easy to do. You get a bunch of ppl with really good ideas about building mechanics, they make a nice sandbox for that. Figure out a nifty UI for building. Some Progression and what have you and then someone asks: What about the world and spirits sink. World-building is a different beast. Gotta give credit to NMS, even I haven't played, but is seems kinda holistic.
Can I interest you for Dwarf Fortress then maybe? I heard it's gonna get a redo with the UI at some time.

Perhaps, but Minecraft pulled it off. I actually prefer Minecraft over NMS when it comes to gameplay, though I'm not sure exactly why. Minecraft started as a builder-only, but then they slowly added animals and people and zombies and breeding and all sorts of fun stuff. I don't need complex NPC interactions like we get in Skyrim, just "something" to make the game feel more alive. Perhaps someday!

As for starting a new game, I'm just not in the mood to learn a new game at this time (unless it's a potentially epic game like Starbase). I'm sitting on X3 and Stellaris, and I'm just not in "learn yet another game" frame of mind. It took me long enough to figure out Space Engineers, LOL.

So instead, I might just reinstall Minecraft. I haven't played it since getting this new PC (I own the Java version).

Ye, Minecraft nailed it pretty well, too. You're looking mainly for population. Maybe diverse one. DF has steep learning curve, so it's probably not the right thing now. Anno? That's pretty chill economy / base building. Had a look at Stormworks, which has rudimentary pops and focuses on engine / vehicle building. Seen some crazy designs there. Plus, you can steamship through Tsunamis.

Yes it would be awesome if we could have RNG POIs and alien NPC/player driven FPS encounters like the (hibernating) Empyrion Galactic. With an immersive, highly interactive, game world experience of a space Skyrim. With rich dialogue/player choice/consequence driven experience the likes of The Outer Worlds. But unlike ED which seems to be approaching the end of its shelf life (given the disappointment I've had with FCs), SE thankfully appears to be still growing. You have to give the dev some slack because SE is still in its infancy. And has the untapped potential to be on par with still maturing games the likes of NMS and X4. Also given the $250M+ dumped on another space game made by he-whose-name-will-not-be-mentioned-here, I'm more than willing to give Keen dev all the time they need to mature this officially published, working game. :ROFLMAO:

As to Starbase, I know as much as you based on the updated 2020 video here...

But at least it's still an Early Access title on Steam. Let's just hope it doesn't go the way of Empyrion Galactic.....

SE will scratch my innovative/crafting/customization and Sims 3 space faring itch until then :ROFLMAO:

ps: if this title succeeds, it has the potential to be bigger than EvE. But let's hope it doesn't fall the toxic way EvE (and ED Open) devolved to in terms of the griefer factor. Because unlike ED, it doesn't appear to have separate instancing for PvP and PvE game play.

Not interested. I don't need some lolsquad stomping down my sandcastle project while I'm still building it. In fact, I don't need any MP in my building games.

You could always try joining an active server with people who play SE daily. As a lone wolf player, I'm personally not into being around ppl. NPCs (or even a random player here and there) are enough. But you're right about the lifeless feel. I'd be perfectly fine if Keen could pull off a Bethesda and make a living, digital organic space Skyrim world. Complete with an immersive world filled with NPC humans, highly interactive planetary fauna and flora. And especially if there were NPC human/animals going about their lives as driven by their sandbox idling in their respective locations.

As an example watching a blacksmith NPC in Skyrim: you'd see the NPC wake up, spend an hour or so eating breakfast, then go outside for the day to work. Where they would idle about at various stations at their Smithy crafting and producing things. You could interrupt their work to buy things, or chat/ask them for help, work etc. Then NPC would break for lunch, head to the tavern/outhouse/prayer chapel etc for lunch break. Return after another hour or so to work at their forge. Work early or late into the evening before making a final break for the tavern. Then after eating dinner/supper and socializing with other NPCs, retiring to their homes for the night. And if you picked the lock (assuming they didn't bother to lock their door at night) you could find them having a final cup of tea/mead or supper with family before they retired for the night to bed. That's assuming they didn't detect your trespassing and attacked/succeed in killing you. While calling the town guards on your sneak thieving @$$ that is......

And yes. I can tell you all this annoying detail because I DID make a point of doing this. Inadvertently stalking a sultry female tavern wench NPC at night. Wondering why she left her house/wouldn't ever opt to live in her home at night. Followed her straight from the town of Morthal.....and right into her vampire coven lair. A Curios George stroll which did NOT end well for my ill equipped and under prepared PC. :ROFLMAO: Not learning my lesson, decided to snoop around on the Morthal priest. Based on tavern and townsfolk rumor mill gossip, was most intrigued on finding out what he was up to on those clandestine midnight strolls into the salt water marshes. Then decided to play it safe by watching the Riverside Blacksmith Imperial NPC go about his daily routine. My PC hung out with the town drunk most of the time (to better RPG acting inconspicuously on my end) while doing his "surveillance". Actually in that case, there was a practical game play reason for that. My Stormcloak battlemage PC was aspiring to become the next Thieves Guild master. And so wanted make his mark by robbing the Imperial smith blind.

Anyhow, really wished SE could pull a Bethesda and replicate an immersive, open world experience the likes of a Space Skyrim.

While I would love that, I don't expect it. Some simple Minecraft-like life would be enough for me. Instead of Minecraft villages, there would be bases scattered around planets with NPCs doing basic things. It's all about atmosphere IMO. One of the things that makes Spider-Man on PS4 so amazing is the NPCs just "doing their thing" in the city. Imagine exploring NYC with no vehicles or people in the streets - no thanks!

In SE, I don't need people everywhere, but it would be nice to have lots of animals, like the wilds of Skyim. Again, I'm not talking about stupid wolves. Random wolves (like Skyrim) would be fine, but not the way SE does it. I also want deer and moose and birds and goats and .....

But to your point, I believe I've seen Keen advertising positions for AI and NPCs, so I do hope this is in future of the game.

Speaking personally, I have little interest in multi-player survival games. I tried that a couple times with Minecraft, and I either ended up going far from other players so I could find the resources I needed, or going far from other players to get away from certain personality types. If I’m going to inevitably try to get away from other players, I’d rather just play it single player.

You could start an SE server and invite just Lance and I. Just make sure to keep it running 24x7 :D
