Elite / Frontier What other space games are there?

Not great fan of online games. But if they ever,EVER!! get this game finished I might give it ago.And it not hard to have a big universe, its what's in it which counts.

I completely agree and if it is anything like EVE Online then it will be relying on players to provide that content. Looks pretty but MMORPG style games need to be pretty clever to hook me. Their new website looks nice tho and the planet landing graphics are impressive.

SpaceGamer never ending quest to find Elite type games.

couple of online one to start with:

starquest online http://www.castlethornsoftware.com/sq.html bit of slooow loader, but stick with it.As it has some interesting features ,any one played it?.

Elite Multiplayer: http://edzup.satanicdreams.com/elitemultiplayer.html currently not online.

Some free ones:

Outspace: http://www.outerspacecrew.net/ Another remake of Starflight.

Transcendence: http://www.neurohack.com/transcendence/ A fun 2d Elite game

Signum: http://www.ms.mff.cuni.cz/~hrinv2am/signum/ Very much like freelancer. press esc to get out of the strange 2d intro to the game.

Elite AGB: http://www.geocities.com/quirky_2k1/games/elitea/index.html For the advance game boy.

Mission Elite: The Battle for Birera: http://www.geocities.com/abaraba1/index.htm a remake of a remake of Elite.

Indie ones:

Space treker http://www.sundialsoft.freeserve.co.uk/ a pda/mobile phone game.

ZSX3:http://zsx3.skasoftware.com/about.htm Ninja,Zombies and Elite. What more could you want?.

Explorer2260 http://web13.globalidi.com/ If you were still using an amiga in the late 90s you might remember this game from World Foundry.the game was never released, but theres a lot of the info about the game still here.

http://amr.abime.net/ Great site this for time wasting, you can find the CU Amiga articles about Explorer 2260 as well as mag reviews of Elite, frontiers and many many other games.

And last, not a game but a astronomy prog http://universesandbox.com/about/ bygod this would make one hell of system/galaxy map for Elite4,its free for the first 60 mins.

I tried the Elite AGB that Spacegamer mentioned above. The link takes you to a site which has 2 versions of Elite 1.
Elite AGB is a cross between Elite & Oolite. The controls are a bit confusing and I needed to go back and look at the page to see what the controls were. The game starts with you at the point where you've jumped into a system and you fly down to the planet. That is just a training part, the game then starts proper. You are able to buy different ships and there is new equipment for you to use.
The New Kind is a more faithful re-creation of Elite 1.

To be honest, I have a few different versions of Elite 1 but still would only play FFE or maybe Oolite.

Well Ive had a bit of a surprise over the weekend, SPORE is 9/10ths a space game. And a pretty darned interesting one at that. In fact large sections of it could be seen as a cartoonised sim city \ elite love child. Theres a huge procedurally generated galaxy, very frontier like, with proper solar systems etc, theres pirates, theres trading, the combat is more Zarch than Elite, which is good for ground combat not quite so cool for the lack of deepspace seat of the pants flying.

You get political issues to deal with peace deals, wars, you get to terra form whole planets (or lay waste to them) your ship you build yourself, with a wonderful creation tool, first rate stuff you get to design you buildings in your cities your people, their armour, you can choose the exact make up of plants and animals for your planets, Why not colour coordinate your higher primates with you shrubbery?

All in all though its probably the best sand box space game released for a long time, and there I was thinking it was all about amoebae...

Shame about the lack of cockpit based combat though... Although many FE2 players will be glad to here theres at least semi newtonian physics involved in the space flight :D

Has anyone else seen that the Tomorrow War is being released this week?.Ive seen it announced,on some website but can't remember where.

Much appreciated it was too.
I must get round to somehow using that video you sent. Einstein Elite in the flesh! :D

I have a plan for a better one :D I think I can get the einstein hooked up to my projector :D which will get rid of the CRT flicker problem and give a BIG picture :D - screens 8'x8'

Hmm tried the einstein direct to the projector with no luck, will have to grab my parents one with an 80 column card and see if that outputs things right to go to the projector. Im sure I can rig it up in someway, would be cool to see the old elite on a "life size" screen :D

still wainting for elite IV!!!

still playing jumpgate

still waiting for a chance to play jumpgate evolution

but there is some good news

stargate worlds goes beta on the 15th october

but i am sure it wil keep me amused for a while

take it easy all

I have been looking out for this one.

As a person who very much enjoyed Freelancer and Darkstar One, i think this may be up my street.

Does anyone know an updated release date for the EN version? All the sources i can find say Sept 18th, but clearly it's not out yet.....
