Distant Worlds II Event What Ship are you Bringing and Why?

Anaconda.
Because:

I can finally afford one! (I have 2 now:D)
Jump range.
Internal slots. I want to do the mining etc. to help the mothership go where it's going and do what it's doing. I also want to try my hand at being a fuel/rock/repair rat.

Still trying to pick. I like many ships for different reasons.

Chieftain - Its just looks awesome but will need to give up something to make it work for such a long trip. Shields, this is doable as most the most part they are not needed. AFMU, need to be careful and no neutron stars or very few of them.
Cutter - Really no downsides (to me) other than supercruise flying. But will allow me to bring a figther to have fun with at meetups. This is not really a pro so much as multicrew with someone who has fighters could give me the same fun.
Clipper - Really the nimble Cutter without the figthers.
Python - Cause its just a plainer Clipper but with more paint jobs to pick from.

Right now leaning on the Cutter and will be doing a mini trip with it to check it out fully. Honestly though I will not know until I leave for DW2 as I'm sure my mind will change from week to week.

PS (Others ship that I have thought about Viper MK4, Courier, Cobra Mk3, Conda, & Imp Eagle)

I signed up with my Explorerconda, but seriously considering my Cobra MkIII, I can get 32ly - 35ly out of it with and explorer build and still carry weapons. I really like everything about the Cobra, its my favorite ship in game and is a great all rounder, I will wait until closer to the time before making a final decision.

I'm bringing my Asp Explorer the "Canonn Star" registry number "CRV-X5".

She'll have a 49.53 LY jump range and armed with weapons. I'm also bringing the 16T crcr just in case, you know for science. Here is the build: https://tinyurl.com/yddtd3m6

I'm hoping by then I have the Canonn decal that I so desperately need!

I'm not joining DW2, but if I kinda wish I had brought my Keelback instead of my Diamondback Explorer for the Enigma Expedition. The Keelback is a nice-looking ship IMO, it has a great view out the cockpit, it carries an SLF, it can dock at outposts, it has a tough hull, it is quite maneuverable in SC, and its size 5 fuel scoop coupled with its low fuel consumption makes for very fast scooping. Best of all, nobody else uses it for exploration :D

There are two negatives with my choice - the lower jump range and the need to sacrifice an exploration module (like the detailed surface scanner) to in order to fit an AMFU. Hopefully the latter will be solved by the Q4 update, which ideally will either combine DSC and ADS into one module, or allow small modules to be doubled up in larger slots.

I initially planned to fly my Clipper, but in the meantime i wiped my save and started over again. Maybe i will still fly an clipper then. In that case it will be these reasons:
-i love the look and sound
-i love the cockpit view
-its fast even with only 5D thrusters (+mods), so no fear when returning to the bubble
-fast fuelscoop
-many slots

But flying with an imp eagle as my main ship the last days, i might consider bringing that one. Almost same reasons except fuel scooping and slots. Or a Cobra MkIII instead :)

What: 33ly AspX

Why: I'm in it now, have been for a while, and won't be docking until DW2 WP1 (or the expedition launch-WP, it it's outside the bubble)

My ExplOrca, Furthur.

Great views, great range, good handling in SC, looks cool, barely ever need to stop to scoop, only ship that makes me feel like a proper ship's captain out exploring, previously went to BP in an Asp, my Conda would be too obvious and possibly a bit irritating to go THAT far in.

I'm currently signed up with my DBX, but I'm considering switching over to my Asp instead. Reason: the view's out the cockpit. That and for all the quirks an Asp has while flying them, I've put so many light years on mine that I find the ship endearing now.

Probably my Adder "Juliette".

Why? She's my favourite ship. I went from Mostly Aimless to Pioneer in her. She's small, fun and can carry all I need; ADS, DSS, Scoop, SRV and a shield. Current jump range is 33 but she's not engineered for range yet. I reckon I'll get 40+ for DW2, which is way better than the Asp I took on DW1. The only downside is the cockpit view, but that's why we have external cameras :)

I’ll be in my Python, Neotoma micropus (Southern plains woodrat). She’s my in-bubble general-purpose ship, which includes fuel and hull-repair gear already. Since we already know we won’t require extreme jump range for this expedition, I don’t feel the need to take my normal exploration DBX because it can’t carry both limpet controllers and has no shield or AFMU. And I don’t feel particularly motivated to buy a ‘Conda yet.

That said, I will be fitting her with the largest SRV bay I can, and lightweighting the hell out of everything else.

I'm going for function. Asp Explorer. Mainly because I did the first Distant Worlds in it and I'm currently on the Circumnavigation Expedition in it so it feels right.

Plus it does what it says on the tin so to speak :)

I'm decided on my 'Conda now. Iv re-engineered it & managed to get it up to a 45LY jump range, though I still might look at shaving off a bit more weight.

I was considering the Cutter & engineered that to 30LY range. I'm currently out on a trip with it, even though I'm less than 10% into that trip, Iv decided that going back to Beagle Point again with a ship with only 30LY jump could be too limiting.
There were times on DWE when I wanted to wander to places but my jump range limited me. I want that opportunity this time around.

Yes, I know that I can strip most ships down & get 40/50+ ranges, but that's not how I do my exploration, I want some protection from my ship build & would rather not take a 'rice paper' vessel.

Hi guys, I am going to make this the official ship discussion thread for distant worlds and advise the mods to delete all other threads with a pointer to this one that arise about the topic.

Would be cool if we also share our actual builds, that might help new explorers a lot.
I will do that once I'm back in the bubble and have done my engineering, coriolis doesn't seem to be up-to-date in terms of engineering.

My PS4 account will almost certainly be taking an Anaconda, but my PC account will take something different.

I'm thinking of the Type-7 for old times sake, unless one of the other new ships can match or beat it's range and can carry everything I need.

I signed up with my AspX but what I actually take will largely depend on how much of the original proposal becomes a reality. The plan as currently outlined depends heavily on FDev support and the Q4 update.
