What teensy tiny things would you like to see changed in ED?

Truth be told i'm clueless gerarding how hard my ideas to implement, they don't seem such a big things in my head :D
-The ability to add waypoints to route planning.
-hotkey for deselecting.
-A more visible indicator for landing pads that shows which direction i should face. (the pad number is barely visible from certain angles.)
-landing pad "display" (or whatever it's being called) be active from a somewhat greater distance.
-orbit lines for binary planets/moons as the two (three) of them still orbits their parent star/planet too not just each other.
-the ability to focus on the upper right panel (the name doesn't comes to my mind) to see messages that disappeared from there.

I would love to see the alignment guides that are shown during planetary landings also be shown during starport docking. I always land kinda screwy, and at weird angles.

Color options for the hud.

Better visuals around the mailslot in the same vein.
The tiny red lights on the grid are obscured by the other bright lights on the station; it doesn't help the color blind much.
Also the pad numbers are almost invisible in some stations for me, for similar reasons.
I'm very happy that I read about using the compass for that...

It's odd there are moving arrows in there, but only going one way.
Seems like an easy thing to have them moving in the direction of traffic.

If it takes ten times as long and has a ten percent chance of crashing you into a star on each jump... maybe. :D

You know what! I could actually live with that. Time is not the issue here, I'm not AFK I just want to get rid of the grinding feature "press (J) to jump"

First and foremost get rid of the most user-unfriendly UI elements.

1. I'd like a hotkey for selecting the previously selected waypoint target (like the "back" button in a web browser). Imagine that you have a destination (for instance a station) selected, which you are flying towards in SC. Suddenly an USS spawns in front of you, so you select it with the target button (T). It turns out to be another boring convoy dispersal pattern, so it's time to reselect your previous destination. But how?

- There IS a "select next system en route" button, but that only works with out-of-system jump waypoints.
- You can aim your ship towards your destination and try to select it with the target button, but chances are that this method will select a larger target instead (for instance a planet, instead of the desired station on the surface of / in orbit around it).
- You can open up your system map, only to discover that the yellow triangle has never been moved away from your waypoint, so you have to move it away first, and only then can you put it back to its place so that the HUD will show it again.
- You can open the left panel, but most of the time your waypoint will not have been already highlighted there, so you'll have to find it in the list before you can select it.

None of the above is a user-friendly solution.

2. A supercruise thrust auto pilot that is able to decrease the thrust automatically into the blue zone for you as soon as the "time left" counter reaches the magical 7 seconds limit, so that you will be able to do more entertaining things (e.g. enjoy the view) in SC, instead of having to keep your eyes on a stupid digital timer to avoid overshooting your destination. I understand that such an autopilot might be confusing to HOTAS/VR users, but at least make it possible for us M+KB pilots.

3. Manually adjustable planet surface waypoints (two simple input fields in the planetary surface map window, where you can enter a pair of Lat/Long coordinates of a desired landing point). I know that it is perfectly possible to find any surface points using only the Heading/Longitude/Latitude readings already present in the HUD, the thing is just that having to stare at the changing of three numbers instead of enjoying the beautiful graphics is NOT what I'd call a good gameplay. Besides, if we had the opportunity to make the HUD display our custom waypoints on the surface of a planet, we could approach the planet from a better angle instead of entering planetary orbit in a random point (the HUD won't display the coordinates until the ship has entered orbit).

4. It's not a very important thing, but it would be good if the HUD could display other distance units then then just Km, Mm and Ls. I'd like an option to display distances larger than, say, 50 Ls in AU (astronomical units) instead of lightseconds. If you are supercruising 20000 Ls far from a star, that reading may not be very informative (at least for me, that is), but knowing that it is 40 AU might help you put it into some context (it is roughly the average Sun-Pluto distance, or 40x the average Sun-Earth distance).

Edit:
5. Getting the "Discovered new signal source" message without the USS actually appearing in the left panel and the HUD can be very disturbing, especially if you are hunting those precious HGEs.

6. Probably it is to late to do anything about it, but twin planets (or a planet with a large moon) orbiting very close to each other (sometimes the distance between the two is less than the diameter of one of them) is very immersion breaking. These kind of planets/satellites should long have been torn apart by tidal forces. Likewise, a close pair of twin moons in orbit around a large planet is a hard-to-believe situation at best. I'm almost positive that these type of orbits wouldn't be stable on the long term, so we shouldn't see them as frequently as in ED.

Great thread idea. I have two things:

1) More NPC local chatter. I enjoy the Wedding Barge, Rioters/freedom party and The Cruise Ship chatter, but I think there's only a dozen lines of chatter for each and my god, I've heard them a million times. I'd love to see all sorts of different ones popping up. Trucker ones in trade systems, pirates boasting in high crime systems. Advertising from local corporations, all that stuff. Not on all the time because that would be annoying, but just occasionally popping up.

Maybe this 'chatter' can also give hints about good trade areas, or warning about high crime areas, maybe even clues to hidden things.

2) Some sort of indicator of the total number of Exploration Records you have to sell, a counter or something, even just saying 1/7 pages when you sell it would be handy.

Okay, I know that this is a really unimportant minor thing, but it might be nice to add it. And the thread did say, "What teensy tiny things....".

The upper left Comm box is always showing the dialogue for the cruise liners and for that wedding (and the lady whose wondering if she should even get married....that's what happens when they have a bachelorette party). Although it may be minor, and even on the verge of being petty, but I would like to see some other dialogues going on. The only time the dialogue changes is if a pirate tries in interdict you (or another player says hello).

One way the FDevs could do regarding the Comm box is perhaps actually have someone asking for help (or calling out for help) in the Comm box. When you see that call for help, you would then know that nearby Unidentified Signal Sources (doesn't have to be the very next one) has an active escape pod floating about (if you wanted to bother picking it up for some cash). You could even put a time limit on it ("Help me, someone. I only have 5 minutes of air left").

Maybe this is already implemented in ED, and I just haven't seen it. Nonetheless, it does offer the Comm box the chance to be part of the overall experience without always relying on the "wedding party" chatter or "cruise liner" chatter. Plus, it helps with the immersion (or at least I think so).

Okay, stop chuckling now....

LOL!! I just asked for things very similar to this :)

Split the navigation pane between nearest x stars and a navigation history.
Standardise the FSD mass-lock distance between orbitals and planetary stations. It's about 4km for planetary bases I think and about 6.5km for orbitals i think.

People often come out with the big things when making suggestions, often accompanied with amusing statements like "I'm sure it wouldn't take much work" or "its simple" when requesting something that would take well over 1000 man hours. :D

But what are the small thing that could probably be pushed onto a junior and done in a few hours or less that you would like to see changed/fixed? Things that set off your OCD, or cause your inner pedant to scream, or perhaps just minor annoyances.

Here is my entry. Make the lines connecting planets look like single lines instead of separate lines.

I'm talking about this:

Also, on a similar subject, sometimes the lines, especially vertical ones, don't always look 100% vertical. There is a slight kink. Maybe its something to do with anti-aliasing or something.
l

emmersive gameplay.

I'd also have a couple of the Voice Attack scipted/macro commands put into ED by default. If not actual voice commands, hotkeys/menu SET options

Things like:
When I say 'Exploration Mode On' the computer will automatically run a system scan every time I drop in, I can effectively ignore having to scan systems as I know the ships computer will just do that for me. Makes exploring a smoother experience. I just say 'Exploration Mode Off' to stop the ongoing scrip/macro if I switch to a fighter or something with no scanner.
When I say 'System Jump' the computer sets my pips, charges up the drive, jumps and sets throttle to zero on arrival. I can yell it at my computer as I'm getting up to go to the kitchen and it'll safely jump for me.

A few little QoL changes like that, a bit of simple automation

Oh, God, yes this - my number one frustration! Such a small thing, but it would make such a big difference.

Button mapping, it's 3303 and I still have to take my eyes of the road to look at a panel for docking request, yet single button presses will bring up system and galaxy maps without me having to look at a panel, same with fighter launch, in the midst of a battle I have to look down, take my eyes off the enemy to launch a fighter, think about it, why am I have to look down at a panel to tell my crew to launch, why? anyway, little things that would be big for me, is QoL.

On the Mission boards, can we please have more interesting and creative titles. They are procedurally generated so I would imagine it wouldn't be that hard to write new elements for them to generate more interesting titles.

I'm sure the screen could be shuffled to allow the same amount of information transfer (the current titles are efficient in terms of knowing what you're getting without opening the mission, but they are very boring).

Examples:

Standard missions (trade, kill, transport, scan)

- Need fast ship to transport Grain to XYZ
- Require tough ship to run blockade and deliver 8t of cargo
- No questions asked delivery of 25t Fertilizer
- Looking for trade contract for 9t Water
- I want Jane Doe dead, will pay good money
- Pirate stole my cargo, want revenge
- Police won't help, need smart pilot to help recover hostages
- Looking for work? Security required to pacify local area
- Ex-Husband stole my assets, will pay for clean removal of John Doe.
- Business partner causing issues and needs to be 'retired'
- Pirate radio station needs new frequences
- Hacker seeking open comms relay in XYZ system
- Local business seeking local hero to gather data
- Lost message from loved one, please help me recover the fragments

Passenger:

- Need passage on a fast ship to XYZ
- 5 people require a sturdy ship for long-range voyage
- Businessperson needs luxury transport for quick trip, no questions asked
- Help us please we need to get home
- STRANDED! need ride ASAP
- Roving Reporter requires fast transport to research a new story
- Want to get involved in science? Researcher needs skilled pilot.
- Need work? Crimson Lines requires temp pilot for short & medium trips.

And so on...
