What teensy tiny things would you like to see changed in ED?

Punch in planetary Long-Lat and a marker appears on the planet for me to follow.

Agreed, this has also crossed my mind (in fact, everytime I have to fly to a destination only specified by the co-ordinates I curse and wonder how FD could have missed this).

And on a similar note, please make it so that I can actually see the long/lat co-ordinates. I thought it was because I'd changed my HUD colours, but since putting them back to default I still can't read the co-ordinates against most planets. I have to lift the ship nose up until I find something black as the background, as only then can I read the orange text. Orange isn't really very good on a beige background... :D

A volume control specifically for engine roar.
Give us the alignment bar from planetary landings for docking as well.
Don't frickin' tell me my landing gear is down until it frickin' is!
Don't tell me I'm beyond gravity lock distance until I frickin' am!
Don't tell me to slow down after it's too late.
Changed "slow down" to "slowed" when it is an outside force acting on you.
Fines for speeding, ramming the landing pad, and ramming the inside of the station.
Don't tell me to see station security until I actually need to go to the principal's office.
If you dock with illicit cargo and the station knows about it, take the cargo away (impound it) from the ship.

ETA:
On station menus with scrollbars, make the scrollbar much more easily grabbable. Allow mousewheel scrolling. Just basically get mouse software from the '90s instead of the '80s.
Add an input box for sales/purchases.
Fix the electronic moving target noise from planetary scans. It tends to keep going - forever - until you go insane.
Add "Lights" and status lights below"Cargo Scoop."

just another thing. Improve the profanity filter to work like it makes sense.
The stupid censoring of substrings of the name because the substring is potentially profan is lame.

Miklos

This HAS been suggested many times since the release of Horizons, yet to date Frontier has never responded with any reaction one way or the other. Many of us naturally assumed such an obvious mechanic as this would have been included from day one, but obviously FD apparently never gave the issue much thought.

You know... A 20th century approach to planetary navigation. (Lat/Long) ;)

Some mentioned already. Some maybe bigger to add/change than I think.

A few suggestions:
1. Include target minor faction name in Transactions.
2. Include source minor faction name in "Critical Mission Update" messages/emails (and target minor faction name too).
3. XBOX: fix pop-ups in System Map to work after selecting object or station in last tab of info panel (it sometimes goes to object, shows pop-up briefly, then takes it away).
4. XBOX: keep focus in System Map's Bookmark Edit pop-up (moving either joystick puts cursor outside the pop-up (back into System Map under it) and can't get back into the pop-up to Save or Cancel it without re-selecting bookmark and choosing Edit again, losing any edits already made).
5. XBOX: fix inability to B-button exit Galaxy Map after changing Filter (currently have to move to hover over an object to get its info/action pop-up).
6. Remove bright lights in hangers/stations causing unreadable left/right panel text and the engineered Modifications view.
7. Make elevation, latitude, longitude, and gravity HUD values more visible when viewed in front of bright paint jobs or environmental objects.
8. Should a UI for customizing HUD colors be added, include an option to save/load different schemes, allowing pilot to quickly alternate between schemes based on environment (see 6 & 7 above).
9. Add option to Map Route from Navigation panel in addition to current Lock Target option.
10. Show current quantity stored in ship for Materials listed in Contacts tab of left panel.
11. Allow limpet and/or refinery to be programmable - a Filter system similar to Galaxy Map at a minimum.
12. Implement a common "default" when returning to a menu from a submenu. As it is, sometimes the 1st item in a list is selected upon return to it, sometimes the last item is selected (the one that triggered the submenu), and in a few remaining cases it's seemingly random as to what will be selected. EDIT: also happens in Comms panel's 2nd tab with Wingmates. Example: Select Engage Wing Nav Lock then go back to Cancel but have to scroll down to wingmate again instead of being already selected 'cuz that's what I last had selected.
13. Stop refreshing lists while I'm traversing them. Mostly seen when in Shipyard looking at one of my other ship's internals (local or at another station) and in list of GalNet articles.
14. Add or put back GalNet articles at engineers which detail where to find materials within 50ly of that engineer (i.e., Ram Tah doesn't have one, haven't checked lately but initial commonly known engineers all have one near bottom of list and dated June-ish 3302 I think - just noticed RT doesn't have one and assuming those I've seen at Farseer, Elvira, Dweller, & Blaster are still there).
15. Allow HUD's Info panel text to be re-read/scrollable instead of temporarily displayed then gone forever - even if added to History tab of Comms panel along with prior Cmdr contacts (but prefer similar to Comms' 1st tab's behavior).
16. Latitude-Longitude info visible on landable planets (or all planets & moons) and/or ability to enter coordinates and place a waypoint marker at that point.
17. Hierarchical organization mechanism for Bookmarks (e.g., folders)

Sorry, longer than expected - OCD kicked in. [knocked out]

Lots of good ideas in here.

Here's my small contribution.

Add a third toggle option for orbit lines to keep them on at all times. Some of us actually find them useful for visually finding odd orbits, and having to keep moving to have them all displayed at the same time instead of just the body that's selected is annoying when you're trying to see how all the orbits are interacting with each other.

Add Steam achievements or some equivalent to the PC game. Just copy everything from the Xbox/PS4 achievement system.

Also let us have more than one CMDR "save" per account.

I really don't know if it is a big or small change
Commodities market in VR be curved like the other VR menus?

I would like the return of the velocity indicators on the HUD in lieu of the star dust
Again assuming since they existed before not an big job - I am no UI engineer so have no idea

More Decal slots for the Sidewinder, We only get one?

People often come out with the big things when making suggestions, often accompanied with amusing statements like "I'm sure it wouldn't take much work" or "its simple" when requesting something that would take well over 1000 man hours. :D

But what are the small thing that could probably be pushed onto a junior and done in a few hours or less that you would like to see changed/fixed? Things that set off your OCD, or cause your inner pedant to scream, or perhaps just minor annoyances.

Here is my entry. Make the lines connecting planets look like single lines instead of separate lines.

I'm talking about this:

Also, on a similar subject, sometimes the lines, especially vertical ones, don't always look 100% vertical. There is a slight kink. Maybe its something to do with anti-aliasing or something.

Offline Mode, With No Shared Background. :)

That is a GREAT idea. In fact, why can't the HUD (optionally) display the longitude and latitude lines on the planet as well? I agree your suggestion is the simplest and quickest to implement though.

This is such a bad idea.
Flying Lat Long is a bit like the Time Gate to use supercruise.
It hits the right balance of skill and reward.

Whati propose instead is PLAYER BEACONS
You carry them as an optional internal.
They take up a whole bay.
Their effective transmission distance is based on their slot size.
They can be deployed in space or on the ground.
At deployment the player enters text which shows up when scanned. Subject to profanity filter.
As well as a time stamped log of First To Scan and most recent to scan.
Lots of uses, but the point is that the first people to discover and share a location do so with Lat and Long.
If the site has value someone will put a beacon on it.

Heaps of uses:
Races. Threats. Treasure hunts. Surface feature markers. Etc.
Heaps of emergent gameplay:
If they are destructible: beacon griefing.
Some systems will get drowned in misinformation.
Someone will carry an 8A beacon to "Nadir" the lowest accessible system in the Galaxy.

But mainly I want to say that auto targeting to a Lat / Long is rubbish.

Very simple cosmetic options. Instead of a complete cltr-alt-g switch off the entire holo-info and hud. An option on window 4 to turn off, thin, or fadeout the circle targetting reticule (including the numerical distance indication).

Fade out, thin, or turn off the "primary" & "secondary" 'parenthesis' of activated hardpoints.
Fade out or thin the orbital lines in addition to the on/off.

Option to change just the coloring of the above. Overall to have a far less obstructed and some personalized view from the cockpit window.

-Add a "SC after jump" toggle, so that you don't always exit hyperspace at full speed. Explorers want to scan the arrival star which is difficult when you blast past it (or sometimes into it) at the speed of light. It is annoying to have to throttle down in hyperspace every single time. If you are in a hurry, turn "SC after jump" on; if you are exploring, turn it off.

In a way, you pretty much have this. During the 4 second count down, I always drop the throttle to zero (or during the jump itself). You come out of the tunnel at 30k/ps so you never face-plant yourself into the star.

BTW, I'd love to see guys standing around the landing pads in stations, driving forklifts, talking on their radio, looking like they're busy doing something. Train Simulator has "guys standing around" in certain situations and Flight Simulator X always had trucks and other airport traffic here and there, so it would be nice to see some "stuff" around the "busy" areas.

One of the changes I would like to see is a change to my favorite system, Mira. For one I would like to see it have a 13ly long tail, although I know thats a bit much to ask but I do wish they would change the satellite star to a spectral type K white dwarf instead of the red dwarf it currently is.
