What type of controller will you be using for Elite Dangerous

I just got myself the Razer Sabertooth gamepad - and it is working great. I also have a Saitek X52 Pro but I found it way too imprecise and I was having trouble keeping targets in the crosshairs - jusat seemed to be all over the place. I use the X52 Pro for flight sims and have had no problems - works a treat in War Thunder.

The Razer Sabertooth just feels more precise and easier to get the ship to point where you want to point it. Downside - there's no throttle slider so you have to map either buttons or the thumbsticks which can get a little hairy when you try and undock and all of a sudden your seriously bumping into things :)

Just my 2 cents worth.

This is what its all about here we welcome your 2 cents.:)

GF's joystick arrived yesterday, turns out it's a FLY 5.

It's a nice enough thing, no issues that some have reported, but I can't help but laugh whenever I use the throttle.

It's teeny! Throwing a Cobra into full ahead and smacking boost on the X52pro actually gives a sensation of unleashing power. Same action on the Fly5 feels like turning on a flashlight lol

Ordered Voiceattack for her too, now on to choosing a headset she won't lose :)

I must admit between the 2 the Fly 5 goods good and you can adjust everything but it is a bit mopedy when it comes to the throttle.

My reason for getting it was I have the RAT 7 gaming mouse and
they have really done well with the ergonomics and the fly 5 by the same group seemed to have the same attributes, you can adjust the stick to make it comfortable in your hand. plus I think i mentioned in a previous thread there seems to be a lack of shops where you can take it out of the box and have a look and a grope so to speak. but these days its got very Argos like where you don't see it apart from a picture and purchase on that.
Put it this way, if it hurts after 30 mins of game play its pretty short lived or am i the only one?

as for losing the headset...That's what you think:)

Folks,

What type of controller will you be using for Elite Dangerous? Joystick? What brand? Just using a keyboard?

I have been using my XBox 360 controller connected to my PC for oolite. It works OK, but has some issues.

Ill be using 360 controller and keyboard and mouse to start with then try the Thrustmaster T16000 when it arrives.

I'm an old flight simmer but recently sold all my gear (warthog, trackir, pedals) and the T16000 has same internal as the warthog stick.

Nice joystick!

My Cyborg is actually a bit rusty so might have to upgrade soon.
But it's holding up pretty well after a few hours heavy use on the Premium Beta yesterday!

What is that thing to the left of the joystick on the Thrustmaster? Is it a 'chin-rest' in case you nod off at the keyboard? ;)

Logitech-Extreme

This is what I currently have. Is anyone playing Elite with this? Is it any good? Thanks in advance!

My CH Pro Throttle arrived today which I am using in combination with my Logitech Extreme. I could only be happier if there were two of me!

I highly recommend a HOTAS setup. The Xbox 360 controller was okay. The Logitech alone was okay. The combination of Logitech and CH is Nirvana to me.

To answer your question more directly, the Logitech Extreme should do just fine. I'd recommend the continuous throttle rather than forward only. And set a moderate dead zone if you're going to use the stick twist as a yaw axis - I find myself twisting the stick inadvertently all the time.

Instant throttle response is a big advantage in my opinion. However I couldn't live without the fine lateral and vertical thrust controls I get from the CH Throttle. Plus the fact that it has more hats than a wedding. :D

For the moment i will stick with mouse and keyboard, i'm a left handed player and i'm also skint so the latest saitek joystick is just a no go for me.
