What type of controller will you be using for Elite Dangerous

Hi,

just got the Thrustmaster warthog and the saitek x55 side by side.

Im going with the x55 as I think it better suited for Elite Dangerous, will return warthog.

Pro Warthog:
build quality is amazing. feels like a real plane stick.
extra POV on Stick

Cons:
Stick resistance is too much. Checked Forums for Spring Mod but wasnt satisfied with the hassle and results.
Button resistance too much. needs very hard press to register. feels awkward.
Button placement on throttle awkward for me.

Pro x55:
easy to configure
dont mind that the switches dont toggle. works fine with ED.
throttle buttopns and PO| -- hats are easy to reach and operate
yaw on stick - tried everything with yaw and think that yaw on stick is best.
like the wheels on throttle
fire triggers have easy resistance

cons:
missing 4th pov on stick
1 or 2 real tooggle switches on throttle
throttle resistance could be even lighter

I would be awesome if Thrustmatser would add yaw on stic and two thumb pov on throttle.
right now there is no high quality joystick for space sims. the 55 is the best compromise for me. lets see what star citiyen comes up with for a space sim joystick.

cheers
bubba

What about the x52 pro vs the x55? What you think?

Finally went to an X52 from keyboard and mouse. Its taken me a few hours to get comfortable - its been twenty five years since I used a stick. Combat is significantly easier.

xbox gamepad is amazing. very convenient two thumb joysticks. pressing down on the right one lets you free look to menus, etc. a bit hard to memorize key combos, but nice setup so you can bind a lot with combos. basically 4 buttons on the d-pad plus a/x/y/b = 16 different functions right there...but you also have triggers and bumpers.

the 360 gamepad is perfect (advanced bindings with button combos ftw)

the only thing it can't do is lateral thrust, but i'm a flight assist on noob anyways so idc

it's all changed a bit from elite on the bbc, I think I had about a dozen or so buttons to worry about :) I wish I had a view out of the back of my ship though ( or maybe there is, not found out how yet :p )

Currently using Logitech Extreme 3d Pro, for the money I would recommend this joystick easily.

With some mouse, some keyboard and lots of voiceattack :D

and that was with no mouse or joystick

I too use the 360 gamepad, and the only time I really need lateral thrust is upon docking. Lo and behold, when the landing gear is down and I'm landing the right and left triggers implement lateral thrust... Dunno if you knew that or not, but I find it useful... Cheers...

My Christmas gift: A saitek x52 pro! Yay! Although I used keyboard before, I was still good at flying and combat. If the new HOTAS makes things easier, then fear me.

Combination of keyboard / Logitech Extreme 3D / G13 and mouse. Use the joystick / game keypad for battle and mouse keyboard keypad for navigation.

I am using a Belkin Nostromo N52 (left hand) and a Logitech Extreme 3D Pro (right hand), with occasional need for keyboard. Mouse is a Logitech G700s, but I barely use it in-game. I've got Elite: Dangerous configured to work with VoiceAttack as well. I am pretty satisfied with the configuration so far, though additional tweaks will likely be required once I get deeper into the game.

Started off using a Mad Catz FLY5 (has an integral throttle). I would have recommended it highly but it broke after a couple of weeks of ED so.... Then I used my old X36F for a while before finally treating myself to an X52 Pro. So far it's been great, didn't take a lot to learn after using the X36F with more or less the same binds.

I also have Voice Attack set up now and wouldn't be without it, especially in the Oculus Rift.

It's all a very long way from the old BBC and Spectrum versions.

havent had a x52 but saw it in the store. the x52 looks flimsy and awkward too me, but that might just be my impression.

x55 build quality and button placement seems a lot better than x52.

have had x55 for two weeks now exclusive elite and am very happy with it.

Well said Tom :)

I'm using a MSFF2 joystick also. Ch Pro throttle and my G27 pedal set as rudder, I modified the pedals using throttle and clutch. I made a cross over cable so I could use the combined axis for brake and throttle.

Joystick is the best ever made, precision is so precise and ffb is awesome, although not used in ED, flight sims are brilliant.

The Ch pro throttle looks like a plastic 90's peripheral but it's absolutely brilliant, with all the switches and thumb stick, coupled with voice attack I never have to touch the keyboard.

Another T.Flight HOTAS X user here.
Being completely new to all this HOTAS stuff (last time I used an analog joystick on PC it was this obsolete beige-coloured thing with just 2 buttons, and we're talking X-Wing and Tie Fighter ^^), I didn't want to spend too much money on something I wasn't sure I'd like to use.
I must say that, ugly as it is, I find this HOTAS pretty solid and comfortable.
Now let's see if the game captures me enough that I'll want to buy something better in the future.

Spacemouse Wireless

Hi. im using a 3Dconnexion Spacemouse Wireless with cyborg 7 keyboard and RAT 7 mouse.

not gone into combat with the spacemouse yet but it seemed to do ok in basic combat training. will train more before doing any actual combat with it.
otherwise i have a logitec wingman force 3D as backup.. but i do like the maneuverability i get with the spacemouse, specially with docking and undocking :)
