What type of controller will you be using for Elite Dangerous

hey i got one of these laying around too and just plugged it in. ED isnt recognizing it in the menu controller options. did you get yours to work?

I receive my XBox 360 controller, this next Tuesday. I hope the game will be a minimum comfortable with it. Because a X52 pro, in my case, can not be expected before a quality graphics card

OK now I have tried it, I can confirm ED works fab on a combination of Xbox pad and sidewinder flight stick.

So much so I would probably not bother with an x55 but sadly one of the hat switches on my sidewinder has died :(

Patrick, you may want to quickly consider an Xbox1 gamepad instead before your ordered X360 pad turns up next tuesday?

I just ordered one today to replace my failing pc gamepad, which I will use for ED (and GAS later this month) as (in the UK) it was only £4 (~5 euro) more expensive than the X360 one.

I made my decision today because the official windows PC drivers are now out for the XBox1 gamepad as at 06/06/14 with a nano-receiver to come soon for wireless use! :D

If ever I make room for a desk though, those X55 Rhino HOTAS things look a huge leap upon the BBC Basic joystick I last used for Elite. :D

G940 here - loving it.

Cheapy Logitech Pro3D, cheapy ebay three switch pedal kit, not so cheapy CH throttle and trackIR pending OR dk2.

+1 for the CH throttle. Good kit, good layout and the mini joystick plus loads of hat switches is spot on for ED.

Cheapy Logitech Pro3D,
As cheap and crappy that joystick may looks, I think it is really awesome.
It feels so comfortable and has a bunch of buttons at the right place.
To be honest my Saitek X-55 joystick feels a lot less comfortable than my old dirt cheap Logitech Pro3D

I finally found a shop that had the X-55 on stock in NL.
Call me crazy for spending €190 on a joystick ... I probably am ...
I suppose it should arrive next Tuesday. And if it does I'll join premium beta.
Until then I'll be playing Star Control II.

lol i paid £150 for mine - and i have to wait till august for it to arrive.

pretty sure that it about what you paid.... so with that, premium beta and oc rift DK2 which was mostly for elite, ED has cost me a fair bit.

but the thing with money is you cant take it with you when you go, so as long as you can afford I reckon you may as well spend it and have some fun.

Currently I am using a Logitech Extreme 3D Pro, with a custom keyboard configuration that I am still tweaking to the best of my abilities. For now, this setup seems to work fairly well.

I do look forward to investing in a Saitek or comparable system, after some extensive research of course.

Tried keyboard and mouse but couldn't get on with it.

Picked up a hotas T-Flight last night and its much more immersive.
Got a DK2 on its way in August so I will be able to live out my childhood space pilot dreams :)

Exactly. And even though I don't have lots of money, or maybe because of that, I have long since decided to only spend money on either high quality or "most bang for buck" stuff.
Maybe an X-55 is a bit overkill in that regard. I assume that a logitec 3D Pro or a Thrustmaster T.1600M are very nice sticks too.
I guess I'm out of excuses now ... I'll admit it: I just wanted it.

For now I have a Thrusmaster X.

But would very much like to try force feedback, if anyone has either a Microsoft Sidewinder Force Feedback 2 (red), or Saitek Cyborg EVO Force Feedback they would like to sell me :)

Do please let me know.

JonnyRedHed; Thrustmaster has newer drivers on there site, than those in Windows 7. These provide Force Feedback.:)

They have them in their own store....occasionally, I asked them on facebook when they were getting more in stock on their UK store as they had none for about 5 weeks and they replied with "We get new stock every few weeks, please keep checking"

An hour later 3 turned up on the store and my wallet was £170 lighter, wish i never sold my old MS force feedback stick way back lol.

Perhaps buy the latest revolutionary joystick from Philips ? The Philips Senso Touch RQ1151/17. The criticism says that it is very precise regardless of the angle of attack.

:p

Does anyone know of a joystick that has a notch or detent at halfway on the throttle?

I've used a joystick/throttle before and was looking through the control options in ED. The 'full range' option on the throttle sounds useful. So mid throttle is zero thrust and pull back to reverse. But I like knowing precisely where zero is, not least for docking and launching.

Sorry if this has been discussed by I couldn't find anything.

Cheers.

Nice. I considered the Senso Touch (or similar) but ultimately decided I needed more on stick controls vs the Phillips 'sensitivity'.

My final choice was a stick that has the benefit of being totally future proof. Nothing beats having joystick buttons free for future expansions (even using in tandem with voice attack). Total control.

e.g.
select combat knife
select laser rifle
adjust night vision hunting goggle sensitivity
eat survival rations
sleep

All in one hand.

My only criticism is it's not as comfortable as the Senso Touch on the hand grip. Might be a nice modding project if I can find the time.

The T-Flight has a notch mid range.
Makes it a lot easier to "put the handbrake on" whilst parking in a dock.
The throttle also has a rocker on it that's very handy for lateral thrusts.
