What's on the menu for Planet Zoo? 🍽️

I mean honestly, if the 1.8 didn't give us a pack and it was just restaurants, some new building and foliage, buoys and capybaras patched in - along with bug fixes of course and a remodeled Malayan Tapir - I wouldn't consider it a bad scenario, so long as a pack came in the next month or so.

But I do think we'll get a pack, but this update itself is sounding nice.

And yes, while I don't expect it, I'll keep hoping for patched in capybaras, to make up for the atrocity of them not being in the SA pack.

Yeah, I'd be happy with another new animal and a bunch of new building pieces, foliage, etc. But obviously - the more, the merrier!

😍 Would absolutely love this. It should also include Straw and Hay Bales, a Tractor (either as Decoration or as a Ride for Guests), maybe a Barn/Stable Building Set but I could also see a half timbered House Set working with this, Apple Trees and maybe a few other domesticated Plants, maybe also Stuff like decorative Pumpkins and please placeable Fruits that don't look like Plastic (the Idea of those Fruits is great but due to them looking so extremely fake I've only put the Watermelons into a Box in the Backstage Area of a Hippo House once and never used the others),
Stuff like Pitchforks, Shovels, Buckets, Rakes, Brooms and similar Stuff could also fit great into this kind of Pack
I know this was regarding a "petting zoo" DLC, but I've been saying for a while that if Frontier were to release scenery-only DLC packs between the animal/scenery and animal packs, it would do wonders for the game. Even if it were just scenery like you've mapped out, it would be totally worth the price! Probably about 50% of the current packs but... Getting a pack loaded with all of the farm stuff you included here would be so useful!

Similarly, I'd like to see a "gardening" pack, a "backstage" pack, "zoo amenities" pack, a "roads and signs" pack, etc. Stuff that takes people hours and hours to create in-game, y'know?

And from a development standpoint, I feel like doing these could be easier than having to make everything themed around a specific location or architecture style.

Yup, I'd love that idea as well, maybe they could throw in a single animal with that pack though. I know the game has it's building focused fans and it's animal focused fans, and I get that the more building oriented players didn't get much of anything with the animal packs, but in honesty, the game has the word "zoo" in the title. Every pack should have at least one animal in it.

I see your point, and I'm definitely game for more animals! Haha. But I can see these packs being just fine without animals as it would add pieces that could be used to enhance decor for animal habitats and backstage areas across the board (not just for a "farm" setting). And, admittedly, I'd see this happening more of a "filler DLC" popping up between the usual, larger "one every three month" packs that we've been getting.

True. Though I'd prefer there be one animal in a pack like that I would still get the pack even if it didn't. Even though I do not have great building skills. Possibilities! Maybe they should think to start doing this especially within a month or two after an animal pack....which....is actually right where we are.

People keep sleeping on my boy the Wolverine! People that say nothing unique can come from Europe need to remember how we still don’t have a land mustelid! A small carnivore that isn’t a dog or cat? Yes please! and the killer of polar bears would be so great and versatile filling in our Arctic, NA, EU, and Asia sections all at once! People need to give Little Logan his credit!

Honestly, I'd love if they shifted to animal packs of varying sizes (3-7 depending on the type of pack) that come out once every ~3 months with scenery/building DLC packs in-between. With the costs adjusted accordingly.

And if I'm being honest, one of the things that would be great about some of these packs is that they would help people who get intimidated by the need to build certain things fully custom -- or people who want to get into that level of detail but piece count might be an issue.

European hamster (exhibit animal)
Interesting Choice and also bred in Zoos due to the declining Population. Would be so great to get some Exhibit Mammals. I still wish for the Arctic Pack to be updated with a Lemming as Exhibit Animal

Sounds like a nice Idea but I think those Scenery Packs should also get a single Animal to boost Sales. Vegetation Packs would also be really nice. Maybe a Pack with aquatic Plants could even include something completely new like a Swan or a Duck

If europe pls give us loads of mushroom “foliage” its lacking so bad
Don't really think we need lots of Mushroom Species but I agree that at least 2 or 3 would be nice to have

Wolverines can kill Polar Bears? 😯
I've expected it only from Animals like Walruses, Orcas, Moose and Wolves.

Can't wait to offer my guests the "Lobster & Pasta Dinner Platter" for 29.96 units of currency.
😂
Grilled Cheese for 500$😉

I doubt Frontier would skip out on a DLC for the holidays. In fact, I would argue that it would be better for them to release a DLC for both JWE2 and Planet Zoo during this timeframe. They just gotta space it out.

They announced a new Planet Zoo feature this week and unloaded the details of the JWE2 DLC. Last time around, they announced the new feature and then the full details surrounding the update the week later - then the DLC the next day. From a timing perspective, this means we'd be getting the update info early next week (Monday?) and the DLC specifics the day after. If the DLC drops on the 14th...

That will give content creators plenty of time to mess about with the JWE2 DLC and release their videos ahead of providing more detail on the update/DLC. The videos usually drop day of release (though there's species-specific builds, etc. that follow). The key difference between the two is that the JWE2 DLC pack is just new species whereas the PZ DLC will likely include new building pieces -- and the restaurant feature will certainly get people's creative juices flowing.

To me, there is plenty of room for both!
I'm not saying to skip the holidays, but it's one where they can still gain the bump post Christmas with the money that people get from Christmas following it.

Scenario pieces will likely explode in possibilities once the DLC cycle is complete and the workshop opens in a way similar to Planet Coaster, but animals and buildings are a different matter.

It’s rare that they kill polar bears but there are recorded cases

They've proven in the past with inclusions such as the Proboscis Monkey or an extinct subspecies of Galapagos Tortoise that the 'zoo' factor does not weigh as much into considering which animals make it into the game compared to cuteness, weirdness and rareness as factors.

If you look up Chelonoidis niger on Zootierliste.de, most European zoos with Galapagos tortoises shows up here. It also states that this is seen as (no subspecific status).
I think this is because a lot of zoos either have a mixed bag of species/subspecies of these tortoises or simply aren't sure what specific kind they got. Which makes sense because a lot of them are old enough to be wild caught, so they are from a time with less information about the taxonomies or it just wasn't important to keep track of back then.
So for whatever reason this scientific name has ended up being the one used for the none specific Galapagos tortoises.

When the zoos can't really figure it out themselves, then I think it is quite fair a team of game developers aren't really able to either.

Also from what I've read on Wikipedia, Chelonoidis niger is a species complex: basically, it's unclear whether there is only one species of Galapagos Giant Tortoise or not

Proboscis monkey aren't just kept in Singapore, there are actually some Indonesian zoos who keep them as well (probably you used Zootierliste to get this information, remember they only list nations who have EAZA accredited zoos). But it's inclusion was a really strange decision, there would have been many more interesting primates with better ex-situ representation.
TBH, I don't find it such a strange inclusion. Although the majority of the animals in a zoo game should really be animals that are somewhat commonly found in zoos all over the world, the inclusion of some very region specific species are a nice addition for people who want to "recreate" or create a zoo in said region. For instance a zoo in Indonesia would very likely have a Proboscis Monkey, same way that a zoo in Florida almost always have (rescue) cougars. As long as it's balanced, and I think it's balanced quite well, such occasional animals work fine in a zoo game.

The fact that it is only found in Indonesian facilities (well at this point in time, there have been unsuccessful attempts in other zoos) is in my eyes a very interesting aspect of the animal itself. So whilst there are surely other interesting Asian primates, this one does have some interesting features to it as well!

Dear Frontier, The greatest christmas gift you can give to me would be a Birds-DLC or on the second position a Marine-DLC. I have seen that Jurassic Word 2 now has flying Dinosaurs. So the signal for me is, that it is possible generally to have Birds. In Zoo tycoon it was possible to build complete Animal houses with Birds, insects or Butterflies. Maybe it's possible to modifie the vivariens so that we can combine them to get bigger ones to use them as aviaries.

I get your point, but I don't think that a crab-eating, a crested macaque or a Javan Langur are found in less Indonesian zoos (I sadly don't have data of this region, so correct me if I'm wrong). Don't get me wrong, but I'm not entirely against the inclusion of the Proboscis monkey, we definitley need more primates (and that's a species that breeds well in zoos) still I would have preferred an other species.
