What's on the menu for Planet Zoo? 🍽️

Maybe we're getting hotels, too, in 1.8?

I say this because the holidays are popular for travelling, and we can realistically build wildlife reserves with lodges for guests.

Plus, semi-connected are the restaurants

Fingers crossed, I hope the patch with the DLC has some nice meat to it, I'm still waiting for more sandbox options (cough trade Centre sell animals all at 100% genetics option cough)

Hayo Zookeepers!

We're back again to serve you some fresh Planet Zoo news. Our developers have been cooking up something extra special for you this time, any idea what it might be?

That's right folks, ✨🍽️ restaurants 🍽️✨ are opening at your zoos in an upcoming update!

We're constantly amazed at the creative ways our community have built restaurants into their Zoos and wanted to help you take it that extra step further by making them functional. With this new feature, you'll be able to set up dining areas both indoors and outdoors for your guests to enjoy at their leisure.

Take a look at the menu below to get an idea of the options available to you:

Set up your restaurants by placing the new restaurant facility down, which comes with a pre-assigned vendor. From here, you can link up to 20 tables to create a functional venue, similar to how Animal Talk Seating Areas work. Guests to your restaurants will automatically be seated at an available table after being greeted and will leave after enjoying their meal.

Of course, restaurants can be pricey, so make sure to budget for your base upkeep cost. Tables can be placed fairly freely so long as they're within 30m of the facility, including in any guest-friendly habitat (sorry folks, no dining in dangerous animal habitats! After all, while we're trying to give your guests unique dining experiences, we don't want it to come with a side-dish of fear!).

Our very own Bernie of Bernie's Bakes was really excited about this one, and offered up this special hot chocolate recipe to celebrate! Enjoy a special PlanZo taste of winter while we wait ❄️

We're eager to see what incredible builds you all make with this new feature! As mentioned prior, restaurants will be coming in a future update and we'll be sharing more information on that soon so keep an eye on our forums and social channels.

Until then, enjoy a hot chocolate on us - bon appétit! :coffee:
I'm curious, are there any new menu items? Or is it still Chief Beef, Pizza Pen, Hot Dog Squad, etc.? I'd love more than anything to make a restaurant with traditional African/Middle Eastern fare near a savanna, or an Indian/Southeast Asian restaurant near a jungle ruin with tigers, sun bears or clouded leopards! If not, that's totally fine!

That makes me think that we're not getting a DLC until January with a small, bonus thing for Christmas, but letting JWE2 be the bigger thing this month due to the overlap between the games player bases. Getting more visibility for both games so they don't bounce off of each other with places like YouTube. After all, most of the youtube side cover both and show them off, having a dlc pop up for both is something that would give both a smaller publicity side of things when they can get the full thing of both by delaying one until January while getting a small thing out that would still give something there for a christmas bump for Planet Zoo as well.

It would also help stretching things out for JWE2 as well, I'm still of the theory that there's some issues with a lot of story content tied to Dominion that was held back due to the movie being delayed and the time keeps things going there.

Seems like a win/win scenario for Frontier...

Christmas is huge for marketing so I don’t think that Frontier would miss out on that.

Now we’ve had a teaser for an update, I’m pretty certain both DLC will drop in December.

Wow a nice update. Long live them restaurant and I will be able to do the restaurant. I wonder if there will be other food stores. Thank you very much Eltanin Casciani

Fixed Malayan Tapir and deep diving for them in the way hippos do would be amazing. This animal is begging for being remodeled 🤞

I think we should wait a couple of weeks. We always get the Update announcements on Mondays and the DLC announcements on Tuesdays, so yeah, I'd wait another week or two... I mean, it's holiday season, so it would be weird not to get anything new. In 2019 we had Arctic Pack (which wasn't that great but hey, it had Polar Bears), in 2020 we had Aquatic Pack (considered by most the BEST pack in PZ history), which was the best selling DLC... I hope this new upcoming DLC is some good stuff, maybe a second Aquatic Pack containing the pieces that were leaked about 2/3 months ago and some new animals such as the Capybara (which was also leaked). A Europe Pack, with basically no big ticket animal, would be a total waste for Holiday season in my opinion

What are the big ticket animals right now?

1. Leopard
2. Gibbon
3. Capybara?

I’m not so sure if all the species that are popular in the community here and on the meta wishlist can really be counted as the big ticket animals.
What do you think?

I doubt Frontier would skip out on a DLC for the holidays. In fact, I would argue that it would be better for them to release a DLC for both JWE2 and Planet Zoo during this timeframe. They just gotta space it out.

They announced a new Planet Zoo feature this week and unloaded the details of the JWE2 DLC. Last time around, they announced the new feature and then the full details surrounding the update the week later - then the DLC the next day. From a timing perspective, this means we'd be getting the update info early next week (Monday?) and the DLC specifics the day after. If the DLC drops on the 14th...

That will give content creators plenty of time to mess about with the JWE2 DLC and release their videos ahead of providing more detail on the update/DLC. The videos usually drop day of release (though there's species-specific builds, etc. that follow). The key difference between the two is that the JWE2 DLC pack is just new species whereas the PZ DLC will likely include new building pieces -- and the restaurant feature will certainly get people's creative juices flowing.

To me, there is plenty of room for both!

Frontier chose the beaver as the big ticket animal for the North America pack, so everything is possible.
What I mean by "big ticket animal" is not really a big animal (the ticket animal for Australia Pack was the Koala, and Meerkat for Africa Pack); my idea of "ticket animal" is something unique, something really NEW, completely original, with whole new behaviors and animations. As for the Beavers, I mean, they are kinda cool, they build dams and everything, and I would consider them a goid icon for the NA Pack. Europe on the other hand has nothing really unique to it... NA had Sea Lions, Beavers, and more, but a Europe DLC would feel pretty empty. None of the potential animals seem unique enough to me... That's my main issue with it. Also, it would look really similar to NA Pack (same temperate/taiga theming, similar animals...)
