What's This?

I can see how the Imperial Fighter (newsletter #2) echos the the imperial Courier

Lovely art work in this thread all in all

May I make a request for future newsletters? Can you please show us an unnamed ship that you are thinking of putting into the game for us to guess what it is - maybe a few stats to help narrow it down or possibly a multiple choice and you can reveal its identity in the following newsletter?

Its an interesting idea, but with the way ships are developed it would probably prove quite awkward to present it this way. For a lot of the ships the in-game statistics are the last thing to be determined.

Also, the Boa and Python are CLASSIC shapes, I don't know why they would touch those but leave the Cobra III alone.
We haven't actually seen an official design of the Cobra yet. The one we saw late in the Kickstarter (Cobra docking) was certainly not the final design they will go with and the video was released (I assume) only because so many backers demanded it (and it actually echoed my request almost to the letter).

Man, I leave this thread for a few days...

I LOVE some of that artwork. I don't know how, or when, but that Hunter design should make it in game. Also, I think that ship designs are one of the most important aspects of this game. You see, when I played Elite, I played it AFTER I had played the likes of Freespace 2 and Freelancer. One of the many things that really grabbed me about the Elite series was the ship designs! I love 'em. They just seem practical while leaving just enough to the imagination. Now that you folks are not leaving anything to the imagination, the real stars of Elite are going to shine. No pressure!

Well, after seeing how the design process works, I suppose that this ship could have been pruned and we will never see it again. I quite liked it however, seemed like a good rough and tumble trader on the edges of civilized space. A bit like a Firefly class ship in my mind. :)

Great job with the design. Also I promise not to send TOO much hate mail if you folks deviate from the Python design.

When I see the beautiful aesthetics of the Sidewinder, I imagine that the Cobra will make drool, few.

;)

What's this

Another "what's this" with stuff that Frontier has already released without giving further comment.

Ashley, any chance of seeing some of the concepts I have pointed out here and in this post.

That is indeed a scrapped work up of thumb 23. I worked up a few quickly to give a better sense of scale. The current cruiser designs were the ones that made it through.

Ok I've resurrected this thread because of another mystery ship I spotted in the Movember group picture, on the top left. Anyone got any idea what this is?

perhaps this titled "Darkwing";

or a refined version/vision of this freighter concept titled "Jatack" (edit: photo file / artwork by Josh Atack (Jatack)), ship name unknown);

If (like many here started to say) it resembles an eagle, I say it's a blood eagle, since it's got no wings.

Blood Eagle is first something I read in Slaine, 2000AD, although it's actually a historical reference to a terrible form of torture. The kind of torture the pilot can administer on their opponents? Cool name for a ship. Even if it's a Krait ;)

Sorry to deviate from the subject of this thread and the whole forum, but I am a huge fan of Slaine.

I've been collecting all his graphic novels for years.

If you are a fan of Slaine, be sure to buy his latest graphic novel.

Slaine : Book of Scars

I've pre-ordered mine.

In celebration of thirty years of Slaine, Thirty years of Slaughter.

There is also brand new range of 25 Slaine Tee-Shirts

That's too much, even for me.

Again sorry about that, but I just couldn't ignore the reference to Slaine.

Back to the subject at hand.....

I have now idea what or which ship that may be.

It's different form the Elite ships I am used to.
