What's with all the guys using female avatars?

Makes a good change from all the more honest white middle aged men I see flying the spacelanes!

It's a good point, it's rather like a shakespearian play. If some of the boys didn't play girls, there wouldn't be many girls in the universe ;-)

Part of the problem here is that your CMDR name doesn't necessarily represent who you are in-game. My CMDR name is Elyssaen, but that's because when I bought the game I thought I was choosing an account name. The character I roleplay is called Sid Riva... could just have easily been I decided to roleplay a woman. I've hand-waved 'Elyssaen' as a Pilots' Federation call sign, distinct from a personal name.
You can change your name, just email support and they'll sort it for you.

I have no need to stare every now and then at sexy lady that`s supposed to be me in my game, when I`M the one doing the work. I want it to be what I am- male, and proud of it.

If i want a sexy lady to stare at I paint one and stick her up on the wall! Heck make a sexy lady bobblehead or sexy lady pinup I can stick in the `pit, i`ll have no problem with staring at that!

It's no more weird than a perfectly law abiding real life citizen playing a downright scumball / griefer / tear & salt extracting murdering ahat in game.

If you're a dude, and your character is a female, then choose a female avatar. Didn't think there was any issue in role playing another gender.

Or am I being too simplistic in my understanding?

Maybe there is something in the water ;)

Vorxian will always and forever be a dude..

Well..

Unless I rename him to Vorxette !

Seriously? Back when I first started playing all I read was that it was somehow unbalanced to let players change their names, for reasons of Open griefing. Have they lightened up?!

You can ask support to change your game CMDR name. Just don't ask every week!

I agree, there's something genuinely interesting about putting on someone elses mantle for a while and seeing what the world looks like from another's point of view. You can play all kinds of characters, evil, female, female and evil ;-) It's just fun and it gives you a different perspective for a while.

No, I do understand OP! He's right!
We demand the chance of be what we need to be... ATTACK HELICOPTERS! WHERE'S MY "APACHE" GENDER?!?!?one!!11Eleven!!

I've never understood why people find it strange that some straight guys like to create female avatars.

They are straight guys so why would they want to spend their gaming time looking at a male character? This is especially true when playing a third person game. Makes sense to me that a guy is perfectly happy watching the butt of a female character rather than watching the butt of a male character.

Whilst some people claim to be confused about this issue, I have to wonder if they might actually in truth be confused about something else entirely... :D [haha]

At least I assume they are guys, with cmdr names like John, James etc.

Your point? I've played many games with many different races and sexes. In border lands I played through the entire game with every charcter (male and female). In other games I played Elves, dwarves, orcs, reptiles, cat people, an alien, the list goes on. Its a game, its all pretend. Why should it matter? I hope no one is worried they will try to hit on a "female character" in a game lol.
