When and what is the tick?

it's been dragging for the last few days for me, at least 3 hours from BGS bot reporting tick before I see INF changes for most of my systems, and yesterday for a few they hadn't changed 5 hours later but had by the next morning.

All pretty unreliable at the moment
 
We're seeing ticks as late as 6 hours after neighbor systems these days.
Not seeing actual state changes on time of tick, though other mechanics are pointing to them happening. i.e. Boom, Elections, etc.
 
a very small "test".
the current first tick is a "state tick" (most notable in station news: conflict days are counted).
we were wondering, whether actions after that are already counting for the next influence numbers update.
so:
  • faction in election
  • election ended according to station news (today ~19:25)
  • we redeemed 10M in bounties
  • (First of two?) Influence Tick already counted in the bounty redeems (~21:51).

which means: states are resolved first, but influence is calculated afterwards (because otherwise, during election, bounties would have no effect).
the good news about that is there is no need to wait after the "state tick" (today 19:25).

I can confirm similar sightings. We've seen systems "double tick" in terms of influence a bunch of times since Odyssey release.
Our observations are, around the "tick time" only conflicts update. Then the influence values change up to 2 times within the next 6 hours, and the non-conflict states will update on one of those influence updates (we've seen it happen on both, but always only 1 state change per day, as it should be).

BGS has become quite frustrating to work with due to that, it's like fumbling in a black box for 25% of the day with no idea what effects it might have.
 
I was thinking about complaining about local text and some other annoyances, but when I see how erratic the BGS is ........

I wish they would move the tick back to the middle of the night Europe time.

There's too many slimy cmdrs over here making use of the pre-tick exploit with the current tick time, making other cmdrs activities in the system in the past 24 hours worthless.

How to beat the background simulation or reverse the conflict ending influence swing?
Well, you need the ability to login in 20 minutes before the approximate tick time, wait for the station news to display updated faction state changes/conflict results, then hand in those saved missions, fail those pax missions, dump in that black market. Well done you're pathetic.

Move the tick or fix the exploit.

how is that an exploit?

don't you have a tick to negate those actions after the tick?

or are you referring to the calculation after conflict ending, before influence updated? in the latter case you do not have to wait for the tick (exampel: gains from bounties handed in while still in a election are taken into calculation when election ends next tick since some time, as state changes are applied first).
 
With the regular game updates resetting the clock it'll be a long while before the tick gets back to late night or early morning again. Please stop updating the game! 😀

Since October 2021 until january 23 - 2022, BGS tick was on 7:30-9:00 UTC with "regular game updates resetting the clock :D".
 
its slowly working its way clock wise....
Moving up to 4PM now... lol

edit Sunday 6/2/2022 update its holding steady in the 1530 to 1630 window...

Am I looking at the situation wrong? My team and myself have noticed the hard BGS ticket roughly happens around 10am-12pm EST time. And on some occasions one of our systems doesn’t even update until 4pm.

Faction news on the station boards & the squadron allegiance tab if you have a faction linked to it will show the current tick as soon as it happens. The right panel for some reason displays the tick whenever it pleases. Tonight for my PMF's one system it didn't display the tick on the right panel until after 10pm EST ROFLMAO. Legit 10-12 hours after the actual tick happened.
