Where is the patterning?

So,

The planets are supposed to be tiled or something, I saw a video and people keep insisting that the planet textures are all off.

Has anyone been to one of these super not good planets or moons? Cause the ones I'm seeing look fantastic.

I suppose it's one of those 'once seen cannot be unseen' things. It happens with Horizons too, it just wasn't as obvious I guess.

Yeah,

See how the actual planets aren't listed in that post?

Like I didn't list mine either but I'm not seeing any patterns repeating either. Only that high contrast planet comes close. So where can I go to see this patterning?

Image is from an earlier version but shows planet, heading, altitude & coordinates if you care to look (near Colonia).

ETA To be clear, I don't personally think this is a big deal (it's an inevitable result of procedurally generated terrain that it draws from a limited pool of template assets).

It's basically everywhere. I can post plenty of examples when I get back to my desktop, if you'd like. The planets to tend to look very nice otherwise.

Yeah that show the small scale patterning they were addressing in patch 5;

  • Fixed some repeated patternation that could display in the planet fine textures.
  • Visual improvements to the fine textures on planet surfaces, as well as how they are blended have been made.

They did make the comment elsewhere that fixing this issue is a much harder problem than it appears and they are still working on it. I still see it sometimes, usually not as bad as in this image. The larger repeated texturing problem on the planets that you can see from space I haven't really noticed much at all.

Lighting now on high. Was medium. Both on high now and no more invisible rocks.
On that note the surface rocks are cool. Now that their visible, all of em. Some of them are jagged looking.. but all the planets I've seen ans landed on so far have no jagged surfaces. By that I don't mean the detailed boulders I'm talking about the mountains and hills all being rounded smooth etc.
WE NEED MORE JAGGED MOUNTAINS

From my experience since update 5 this effect has been obscured and is only visible under night vision. It is only visible during glide and up to around 2km altitude and then gets replaced with more detailed and varied textures/terrain. Also the digital camouflage patterns have been greatly reduced with the last update.

A lot of people will have a feeling of "weird" and "repetition", or "deja vu". That's how it started for myself. Very early when first playing Odyssey, a sensation that all planets were "the same".
hat's likely because there is a pattern, and you brain see it but not you. So it warns you (because pattern in nature = danger).
It's harder to actually spot them, I mean barring the obvious. But the feeling is annoying at least for me, because I instinctively tend to focus and hunt for the pattern, instead of simply enjoying the game.

I'm not sure. Deciat is still the same, and this is what I had the day after the patch :

In the front, it's quite blocky and camo looking. In the middle it's jarring because super straight line and square looking pattern not unique to this specific place. And in the background it's just a chessboard and plain bugged.

Do note that it was a completely random planet, and the only one I did after patch. Either I'm unlucky, or it's rather common. I leave that part for the jury to decide.

As for Deciat, it's still the same "white camo carpet".

Our brains are weird things, you will also see patterns where there aren't any, if it thinks there's a pattern there it will fill in details for you. Common optical illusions are fascinating once you delve into the process, and unfortunately it often makes you doubt everything you look at! This is why people here devil messages in backward songs and jesus in toast.

Yes sure, but the patterns have been screenshotted and seen. So it's not weird brain thing.

I've been to quite a lot, to be fair. Planets can look great, sure.
Also flying to one of the "Asset" points look great too, even if I can visit the identical large scale feature on another section of the same planet and even on many other planets.
But, there's no denying there is tiling on a large scale happening.

Not saying they aren't, but believing they are everywhere can lead us to see them where sometimes they don't exist is what I am saying. Also not everything that's a pattern is a graphical artifact because patterns do happen in nature.

Maybe, maybe not. The planetary generation have many issues ATM. If it was only the pattern, that would be a problem, but not that big. It's everything added up that make exploration a sad downgrade for some people, myself included.
