Yeah,New Planet Tech is KILLER of Exploration (all terrain is tiling/repeating/not procedural/random)
UPDATE: Planetary terrain prefabs are now also being discovered to be reused between planets: UPDATE: Looking at the high number of reported planets. I have gone ahead and created an issue tracker for this one. I urge everybody to go ahead and tick "can replicate" with as many examples as...forums.frontier.co.uk
I suppose it's one of those 'once seen cannot be unseen' things. It happens with Horizons too, it just wasn't as obvious I guess.

Image is from an earlier version but shows planet, heading, altitude & coordinates if you care to look (near Colonia).
ETA To be clear, I don't personally think this is a big deal (it's an inevitable result of procedurally generated terrain that it draws from a limited pool of template assets).
- Fixed some repeated patternation that could display in the planet fine textures.
- Visual improvements to the fine textures on planet surfaces, as well as how they are blended have been made.
From my experience since update 5 this effect has been obscured and is only visible under night vision. It is only visible during glide and up to around 2km altitude and then gets replaced with more detailed and varied textures/terrain. Also the digital camouflage patterns have been greatly reduced with the last update.![]()

A lot of people will have a feeling of "weird" and "repetition", or "deja vu". That's how it started for myself. Very early when first playing Odyssey, a sensation that all planets were "the same".New Planet Tech is KILLER of Exploration (all terrain is tiling/repeating/not procedural/random)

I'm not sure. Deciat is still the same, and this is what I had the day after the patch :Also the digital camouflage patterns have been greatly reduced with the last update.
that's likely because there is a pattern, and you brain see it but not you. So it warns you (because pattern in nature = danger).
Yes sure, but the patterns have been screenshotted and seen. So it's not weird brain thing. Our brains are weird things, you will also see patterns where there aren't any, if it thinks there's a pattern there it will fill in details for you. Common optical illusions are fascinating once you delve into the process, and unfortunately it often makes you doubt everything you look at! This is why people here devil messages in backward songs and jesus in toast.
So,
The planets are supposed to be tiled or something, I saw a video and people keep insisting that the planet textures are all off.
Has anyone been to one of these super not good planets or moons? Cause the ones I'm seeing look fantastic.
Yes sure, but the patterns have been screenshotted and seen. So it's not weird brain thing.
Maybe, maybe not. The planetary generation have many issues ATM. If it was only the pattern, that would be a problem, but not that big. It's everything added up that make exploration a sad downgrade for some people, myself included. Not saying they aren't, but believing they are everywhere can lead us to see them where sometimes they don't exist is what I am saying. Also not everything that's a pattern is a graphical artifact because patterns do happen in nature.
