Why Advanced Docking & Supercruise Assist is Worth IT

Curious of those who love the immersive quality of landing and taking off their own ship how many also do the pre-flight check?

I do most weeks when Gnosis jumps. Securing my ship. I don't always do the actual check, de-toggling it is kind of the same process.
Plus if I'm really into it, I've got a silver flightsuit in holome for Gnosis go too .. sub deck fire crew. 🤪

Autocruise is really excellent when you're surveying and mapping planets imo. Explore the System Map from orbit? Lovely.

Nah. Slingshot at speed. 30 second neutron scoop:

Now that you mention it, I'm not actually sure if it's still the case or not, but it used to be you couldn't avoid hitting the exclusion zones of some black holes and neutron stars when jumping into a system at full throttle.

Would be a shame if they got rid of that, especially now that you can tell which system you're jumping to listed on the HUD and can of course select which star types to plot along.

drop distance has been increased too, because of unexpected and high laundry bills ...

See Subject:

1) because after 3000+ manual dockings - YOU DESERVE IT
2) After 4 beers and 1 cup of brandy why risk a 5M credit payout (I could'a done it on manual but why?)

I've gotten to the point with ED that the only way to really have fun with it is to - well - drink too much and fly anyway...

YEE HAH!

Drink? Pffff!!

I'll see your YEE HAH & raise you a WOOOOOOOOAAAAAAAAAAH!! WTH?!!!!

Every session I start with a pre-flight checklist. I don’t have unlimited space at home, so I need to set up my “cockpit” every time I want to play, and naturally I want to make sure everything works correctly.

I don't use them. Neither advanced docking or supercruise assist. Because they take slot space that can be used for better gear. Just that. If they came fixed in any ship, despite cargo slots, I would use them, of course. Always fun to see Ai in action.

...Hmmmm... sounds like you are having way TOO much fun. What's the betting "new era" comes with a compulsory breathalyzer module ? ;)

If you have peanuts insurance like 5 million, sure. Use your docking computer. Dock blindfolded, while balancing on a unicycle. When you have a billion credit ship, then we'll talk :D
Are you saying that you routinely crash your ship while trying to manually dock?

My two credits...

Can't say I've used SCA, I rarely am in a situation where the travel time justifies its use (although it's been awhile since I was ferrying passengers, my second-favorite activity because reasons). I've used AD just to experience it the one time when it came out, but I manually dock my Beluga Liner and Corvette easier than my DBX (which is far from the nimblest ship out there).

Docking in my 'go-cart' Eagle scares me a good deal. Way too sensitive.

Anyways, I always advocate for these two modules to be installed software rather than modules. They don't hurt anyone's playstyle, they don't take away from the game, and for content creators like Pilot or Obsidian Ant they are invaluable tools for slick production. I've used the AD a second time, about two months ago, when I was shooting some fun footage of my Beluga Liner. Very handy to have since I don't multi-crew (so I have to do all camera work while piloting) and, more importantly, ship movement is ultra-smooth with AD.

I really dont think that it is. I actually mostly have them on my big ships which are very explosion-proof

You are welcome to be my weapon test subject :)

But in a more direct manner: What you believe or not is irrelevant. Among the ganking community, having a docking computer installed makes the user a gank magnet for multiple reasons.

1. It indicates that user is either too incompetent or too lazy to dock manually which indicates a lack of piloting skills (includes lazyness) which concludes to an easy-to-kill target
2. The module slot is wasted for a non-essential module where a HRP/MRP/SRP could have been used instead, making the target a little bit more squishy, concluding to an easy-to-kill target.
3. It's seen as a sportsman goal or a sidequest to hunt docking computers among the ganking community.
4. A minor group of players is triggered when they see docking computers because they despise them for multiple reasons I will refrain from explaining.

The combination of any of these points all result in the objectively increased chance of getting ganked, which is reffered to as being a gonk magnet. :p

1) lame and annoyingly untrue
2) Really? Class 1 HRP, SRP, and MRP do not even exist EDIT- they do exist, but if I see you using one.... so help me god i will destroy you!! (am i cool yet?)
3) lame
4) still lame

I think I will be adding ADCs to most ships now. Home system is Lugh at the moment, feel free to swing by.

I liked my SA and docking computer for my Beluga when playing business ferry service. Docking without is not that hard, docking with is very convenient.

:D S

I will never understand people leaving the computer when they are playing a game. Turn it off... then go do whatever you're doing.
I dunno, maybe I'm weird but I am either playing the game or I'm not, I'm not going to leave the game playing itself, just seems weird to me.
It's supercruise. Why sit for 10 minutes and stare at a static screen watching numbers tick by, when I could grab a snack, smoke, use the bathroom... It's what I imagine I'd be doing in a real ship waiting to reach my destination
