Why are Fdev so bad at community management?

Slightly off-topic, but to set the record straight - PS4 Pro > PS4 Slim > PS4 original. The Slim is not some "PS4 Light" except in the physical sense. From a processor / RAM / specs sense, there is just PS4 (which these days is only the Slim sold in stores) and PS4 Pro.

ahh didn't know that I just see PC > All which is obviously not very inclusive of me!

It may be, but the bugs and low quality graphics in ED on PS4 is not the fault of the platform, but rather Frontier's inability to optimize for our platform. I've got games on my PS4 that were originally PS3 games (like Tomb Raider Definitive Edition and DD: DA) that look better than ED does. Then play a game like Horizon Zero Dawn (which is actually "old" now) or Spider-Man, and ED just looks sad... I blame you PC gamers for this, because $2000 hardware allows Frontier to get away with lazy graphic shaders :p

All that said, if terrible shadows was the ONLY problem with ED, I'd be complaining about this over in the PS4 forum. Most of the bugs and half-baked features are cross-platform, which actually makes me kinda glad I only spent $200 on hardware to play this game ;)

Maybe they just didn't figure out how to post on the new forums yet!
Considering my own issues in this regard (I'll let you put two and two together), this would not surprise me, LOL.

I play warframe on my switch if I can do that then Fdev should definitely be able to make ED work on a ps4 developers have achieved the impossible on consoles so asking Fdev to achieve the mediocre isn't a huge ask!

Time for us all to pipe down again see you all in 3 months!

Will finally found the post reply button!!!

Both the announcement and Will's engagement with the questions in that thread are great IMO. And the update itself is pretty impressive (though I do hope the bug fixes are thorough). Finally I get the autopilot I've been asking for!

Wait, does that mean Frontier does listen to us? 🤔

I don't think it solves the main problem I wanted to raise as this is an announcement post not day to day engagement and actually I think their handling of the posts popping up over the past couple of days has been utterly pathetic.

I like the update I despise the way they treat the community when talking about anything remotely less than positive but as I've said throughout that's their call if they want to have some of the worst community management in gaming they should continue as is.

P.S. for some reason this thread has taken me from trying to be fair and balanced to irrationally annoyed....

I have many bones to pick but community management from Fdev is not one of them. The only thing I can fault in this regard is, until today, having had so little to share (in comparison to, say, 2016 and prior). It seems apparent to me there's been some internal changes and re-focus, and we're just now beginning to see the shake-down results of that.

It'll be a ways to wait until late 2020 for the full 'impact' of it and all, but heck, we have Warframe in the meantime and I kinda like what I'm seeing for this update posted today.

If I can just get something finally done to take away combat XP splitting, then I would be a happy camper.

Today's minor patch has nothing to do with the complaints we articulated in this thread. Hell, even if they dropped spacelegs today the complaints would still be valid. It's not about what they've given, it's about their communication.
I had hoped we kept this thread mostly balanced although appreciate we've slipped on occasion to allow fdev to respond but their silence has just been infuriating and yes you're right this was always about comms not announcements of the development process however, it seems we've not managed to get their attention.

If you're saying this is just salt I have a feeling you've not read the thread there have been a lot of valid challenges to fdevs approach to communicating and community management if this doesnt bother you that's totally cool but dismissing 250 posts as salt isn't massively useful

Reading the comments in this thread is the precise reason I prefaced my reply with the salt emoticon. I've seen far more than the 250 posts in this singular thread over time, as well. My perspective remains as stated.

There's always room for improvement, sure. But much of this vitriol I see is on the whole undeserved. There's far worse that could be done on the community management front, just go take a look for a while around other areas of the gaming industry. It's a nightmare jungle out there, I tell ya.

So? He might pop in with a carefully crafted reply, about how they do care, they are working hard to engage with the community, that they are listening, etc. Its all he can really do. And of course, people will say that its a load of rubbish, and go back to their grousing.

I'd guess what he really wants to write involves suggesting some people do something anatomically improbable.
