Why are n00bz so rude... "?"

I often head into Starter Space to try and help new Players (see the first link in my signature), and I honestly believe that the main problem for the new Players is that they do not (yet!) understand how to use the COMMS system. However, I have managed to help new Players with less than an hour of game experience.

I am an experienced player but I don't understand the comms system either, because it's awful.

Why has Lord Braben gifted us with the interdictor module if he intended us to forego its use? NPCs constantly message us and interdict us. It's part of the game. These are NPCs are programmed by the devs to fulfill their vision of what gameplay should consist of. For some reason folks look down their nose from their high horse when players behave similarly.
The question is, why didn't the player communicate with the other player using COMMS which work just as well in or out of supercruise? Why did they feel the need to interdict first?

What the heck is a square an up?
PS4 controls I would guess...

Hmmm I think OP is generally speaking doing things the right way but for ONE tiny tiny thing...

Maybe try initiating Comms before interdicting them?
Maybe then you won't need to interdict.

I think they might be ignoring his hails, or not able to use Comms properly.

Best thing to do to win friends and influence Cmdrs is dump beer everywhere while chaffing with FA off backwards.

That's correct, or X+up in the case of the standard Xbox controls.

Noob : Quietly flying through space looking at the scenery....

ALERT ALERT YOU ARE BEING INTERDICTED

Gets dropped out of Super Cruise doesn't know why ????

Noob : OMG OMG OMG Hes just dropped out right behind me !
Noob : tries to jump ... Ships screaming at him that he has to wait for cool down of Friendship drive ? WTH is a Friendship drive ?
Noob : OMG boost .... Boost

Ship : Insufcient bla bla in bla bla to boost

Noob : OMG OMG

Noob : I know ! Evasive manoeuvres... flip around and fly past him !!

OP : o7 !

Noob : WTH is o7 ?????!???!

Noob : Flip .. Boost ... Splat !

LMAO That's probably whats happening.. I think I shat myself the first time someone interdicted me ;-)

I remember being new....

I'm got interdicted in Sol earlyish on and got no message up front and there was nothing after dropping. Eventually I fumbled comms to type '?' and got a response about wanting to practice. Even then, it was only after I jumped out that I figured maybe they were human.
It was another 2 months before I joined the forums and learned that there are hollow squares and solid squares.

More than a year later, I'm doing DWE which meant lots of meet ups. Lots of chat..... I still struggled with it. Often times what I typed wouldn't come out. Worse, after I typed I couldn't get out without escaping to the menu.

So I can completely understand radio silence.
Also, when you're in middle of playing, you was to play. Anything more than a salute is a distraction unless you *want* to talk.

Also.... The game is called 'dangerous'. Ergo there are no nice people :/

If you wanna help, broadcast an offer (don't interdict).
I recall in the original horizons beta being interrupted by an NPC and getting an offer of help. I didn't need it as I beat the mini game but we had a chat. They were a fuel rat and saw an asp flailing about on the scanner. Now *that's* a great way to offer assistance in my opinion.

I've been schlepping around in my Corvette, upgrading all the legacy G5 mods, and so I've been around some of the "newbie" systems recently.

Last night I spent half an hour docked in Eravate, while I consulted INARA and then got distracted by the forums, went back to the game and realised the chat was full of trash-talk, insults and racial slurs. [sad]

Took off, got attacked by some space-cadet in a Harmless Sidey, deliberately flew out 15km from the station so he wouldn't get blown up by the station lasers and so I could defend myself without getting fined, getting a stream of insults through the comms as I flew, knocked his hull down to 10% with a quick blast of my lasers, thought I'd be doing him a favour by not destroying his ship but I just got more insults as I waited for my FSD to spool up. [rolleyes]

Sad thing is, in a fortnight he'll be in an Anaconda, he'll have access to Guardian modules and he'll be starting to engineer his ship.

I must confess uncertainty regarding which has been the drier wit: the obvious OP, or the seemingly sincere and credulous responses playing along with it.

Upon reflection, I must conclude that it is ultimately a team effort, and that we should all be proud.

...3. dont know how to use comms...

In fairness it took me quite a while to suss out how the comms worked - and I'm still far from brilliant at it...e g. 'if I had a credit for each comms hail that I've noticed only as I'm watching the countdown to hyperspace, I'd be rich'

Indeed, don't see how interdiction could be considered an "offer" to connect , help or communicate rather than construed as harassing. In the same instance, using comms, friend request (although I'd wish they had another contacts category), or flashing headlights would seem more genuinely communicative.

It's very rude to interdict. An act of aggression. Very annoying.
I wouldn't want help from someone acting so brash.

When I interdict I just cut to the chase and fire weapons/limpets/both.

lol well is it his fault he was born without a soul? Rudeness as an attribute has no correlation with noobness. Some noobs are jerks, and apparently (not you) alot of this forum riff raff are pretty rude too. The mind works in mysterious ways but luckily in game we have guns strapped to our steeds.

Just a question for the OP - How do you know they are noobs. For all you know, those Commanders flying the Sidewinders and Haulers you deemed so incompetent that they need your help could be triple Elite players who have just purchased an additional account or reset their account for the challenge. They might have more experience and knowledge of the game in their little pinky than you could ever amass. Just think, you may have interrupted some guy who has set out to go from Sidewinder to Anaconda in 2 hours.

Hmm wonder if you are now on any KOS lists …. ;)

I've helped and talked to lots of Newbies around the stations in Eravate. Pulling a new player out of supercruise with an interdiction is a hostile act and very rude of itself. What goes around comes around.

You've heard of Poe's Law, right?

I've certainly been interdicted by people who just wanted to tell me that I'm "doing it wrong" and I doubt I'm alone in that.

TBH, I just tend to think those people are being jerks, but there we are.

I got lonely... so I flew to the n00b systems...I thought helping out n00bz woud be FUN!!! But, quickly I am educated to the unexplainable fact that n00bz don't want help. THEY WONT EVEN ACKNOWLAGE MY EXISTANCE!!! I pull them over, gain a fine for my courtesy ( FDEV), and they completely ignore me. I don't understand this behavior. Will someone explain it to me PLEASE!!!???!!!

I think the problem here is I don't know how to use the comms. I know what I first started I sure didn't, also they probably don't know the difference between a human and an NPC.

I had a similar experience. Pulled over some sidewinder to see how I could help them. No responses, they just put full power to the E rated drives and continued on their aimless way.

I did manage to get a new commander to open comms (eventually)… tried to help this Commander Noob-McNoob… dumped Gold right in front of him/her but they "didn't want it".... meh … [wacko]
I sometimes now just go to the "nursery" sys to watch the antics* .... once got jumped by a seal-clubber... and that didn't turn out so well ….. (for him/her)[squeeeee]

*I still take a few Gold or Platinum along in case I can help a new commander in a small way.

o7
