Why aren't there shipyards at engineers bases

Because it's an open forum and I have every right to be here. Do you have a problem with that?

No but it is a bit like moaning about the government when you don't vote.

I'm sorry but not playing then whining on the forum because the game isn't the way you'd like it to be has got to be an astounding waste of time that's akin to trolling, why should anyone take anything you say seriously?

You literally don't have any skin in the game and want stuff changed? = bizarre.

I don't recall asking for stuff to be changed. Also, the fact that I don't play the game any more doesn't mean I'm not entitled to an opinion on the game. I also don't need your approval or understanding in order to express it. Also, answering "no" then going on to describe the reasons that you clearly do have a problem with it?

I just think its strange, but hey ho it's your mind, happy hunting.

You make it sound easy, I have tried all the above for months - and having immense fun by the way - and yet I still get caught out, and I don't find NPCs easy - I still can't pass "Advanced Combat Training".

Perhaps you have simply out-grown this game with your immense skill & prowess? Just stating NPCs are easy doesn't make it so for everyone. Making money is easy [well it is for me - but I doubt everyone agrees]

With NPC's, it's not so much about skill as knowing their limitations. NPC's tend not to be as fast (ship for ship) as a CMDR's ship, so if you are running low on shields, you can outrun them.

They also will generally doggedly follow you until you lose them on sensors, at which point they turn about. So, if you have 3 ships following you, keep boosting until just one is left, turn back, take out that one, then hunt down the other two.

Also, being aware of the locations of the other ships is handy, I tend to use the largest ship as a barrier to smaller ones, orbiting around it, and trying to keep at least one of the other ships on the other side. That way, they can't shoot at me without hitting their buddy. It is harder than it sounds, but something to keep in mind.

Basically, as my old martial arts instructor used to say, it's easier to fight one guy ten times, than ten guys at once.

Inconvenience is hardly challenging, in fact beyond PvP there isn't actually anything challenging right now in Elite. NPCs need a serious buff and we could do with Raid style missions.
I'm going to disagree with this for a couple reasons:

1. You go and engineer your ship so you're in essence giving yourself a buff (you have the option to not do that, making the NPCs at least more challenging than they are to a buffed PvE ship)
2. There are a lot of players who haven't spend 2000 hours in the game and don't think the NPCs are that easy. They don't want to spend 2000 hours to get to their first Python. We slaughtered the easy NPCs and now we want them buffed, now that we have corvettes and cutters all engineered out? I don't think the game should be custom designed to our level - it should not be in group lock step with those who first arrived, per se.

If I were an Engineer, I'd probably be selling some ready modded modules at a significant markup. They probably wouldn't be anywhere near as good as the RNG versions though....
If I was an engineer (actually I am lol), I'd have drives already engineered that you could buy. You could spend some materials and try to make them better, but I'd have a storefront of example drives you could at least test out before I recalled the engineering aspect of them, just to see if you want to actually pay that much for them.

NO If you don't play the game your opinion means less than nothing. Just trolling. OH Like I do, but I play the game. :)

Thing is, we already have a very good system for dealing with this. Ranking. 20 hour old pilots should not be taking out Dangerous to Elite rated ships - even Sidewinders. Right now, the only difference between an Expert Cutter and an Elite cutter is the number of SCB's they spam in a row.

Seriously, I can't stress this enough. SJA's AI from Beta 4 (I think 2.0, perhaps 2.1?) was sensational. I went into a Hazres and just about got my butt handed to me by the first NPC Python - normally, I take them out with my eyes closed - which clearly was what I tried to do. I went back tot he station, fixed up my ship and went back there with a strategy in mind. It worked, but it was hard, and I enjoyed every second of it.

The problem with the "super AI" wasn't the super AI, it's that is seemed to get applied across the board (and the auto-cannon no heat plasma accelerators). Only Dangerous, Deadly and Elite NPC's should have been that tough, with harmless NPC's being as easy as the weakest AI since Gamma, and then step it up from there.

And, get those RNG skillz a going, perhaps make 1 in every 200 harmless/mostly harmless ships at near Dangerous level, to allow for the odd "naturally gifted" pilot.

Elite pilots should also be rare, found mainly in anarchy type systems, where you need to be that good to survive.

Ummmmmmmmmm . . . . it's tied to the shipyard because ship *storage* is, and always has been, tied to the shipyard? You can't transfer a ship unless you are able to store it. And you can't store a ship unless you have somewhere to put it. I dunno like in a yard or something. Aren't we supposed to believe in this imaginary world even a little bit? Do you think we should also be able to store our ships at any station as well? (And if yes - should we be able to remotely sell them even though there is no shipyard at the location where they are stored?)

I know that It's A Game (!!!!) and all that, but I still like to pretend that It's A Game which represents a world that someone has envisioned. So yes I know that "Shipyard" is a menu button which leads to another series of menu buttons, and that the whole "space station" is basically a website. But I *thought* it was supposed to be an abstracted representation of a big giant amazing facility which itself houses a big giant amazing facility where ships are made, bought, sold, and stored. So I don't think it's an arbitrary pointless dumb random time-wall unfair grind Bad Design decision which restricts ship transfer to shipyards for No Good Reason. I think it might be the way that it is because this is what makes sense and honors the premise of the world this game seeks to portray.

What's a group of ships being sold got to do with storage?

That aside, the ultimate choice should come down to game outcome IMHO...
