Why do some players decline wing invite in res sites?

Random wing invites...get them now and then and ignore them all without a seconds hesitation. First time I accepted one, I got ganked hard.

Put simply...I dont trust anyone ^

Simply because, of the 3 whole times a stranger has asked to wing up with me and I have accepted, the tool has turned on me shortly after accepting. I hasten to add, it have never ended well for them, but it wastes my time and so I only fly with those I know in a wing. I WILL fly with other Commanders and have been known to help random folk out, but as a rule, if you aren't on my friends list, you aren't going to be in a wing with me :D

I accepted them for a time in Mobius PvE at CGs, and had fun chatting with fellow CMDRs. Ultimately though, I realized that once you own a Corvette, other players just slow you down.

If I see a crowded CG RES site now, I just switch to solo so all the glory can be mine.

I don't like being told what do to boost someone's ego or frustrate someone by not doing what they want me to.
I can say hi without being in a wing.
For me, winging up is done back at a base with a clear goal in mind.

I agree. Casual "winging" seems like asking for trouble - shared goal, known comrades & purpose make for a good wing. Chance wing is just that, a chance.

Because friendly fire threads are more entertaining on the forums !

In short I only wing up with people I know, at lot of good advice here. Discord - voice comms- wing.

It's pretty simple for me. If I don't know how long I'll be on, or it's near the end of my play session, I will decline.

If they invite me, without talking to me first, I will most definitely decline and prepare myself for PvP.

If they talk to me first and I'll be on for at least another 30 minutes, I'll accept. If it goes sour, so be it.

I used to stay solo, I wouldn't even see invites if people sent 'em as I wasn't looking for 'em.. So there's that.

Now I'm usually the biggest, or one of the biggest ships at a CG res, I invite people:
a) to make 'em comfortable around me and who ever I'm winged with
b) to share in bounty profits
c) to make it easier to reset the res

It's also a great way of showing newer players benefits to playing in Open, rather than just having them read and feed into the negative threads about the mode.

Strange so many people base their time in Elite on one bad experience.

I don't take wing inv from randos because
A-I'm usually wanted. If we wing up. You're gonna get
B- Certain people like trying to kill me. Chances are when they can't get me. They'll go after my wing man

Why should i be pestered by wing invites when i merely want to do things my way and blaze my own trail without being criticized for my choices?

One can be a grumpy space hermit in both solo and open mode.

In Mobius, I've only seen one open square outside of a CG, and that person soon got chased out of the res site by the local police. I chuckled as he/she was running away thinking 'that looks familiar'. :)

I won't bounty hunt in a CG res site anymore as I have no interest in having my kills 'stolen' nor do I care for having to make sure I don't shoot a NPC that someone else is already shooting at. The distractions do not elevate my gaming experience.

Having said that, I will one day likely wing up with my grandson so I can help him learn. Just as soon as I figure out how to create a instance with both of us in it. :)

Not a complaint, just genuinely curious. It makes sense, to me at least, to wing up and both get a bounty as opposed to fighting over getting the last hit. I'm just wondering if some players actually prefer to compete over bounties instead of being in a wing....

Some players simply do not want to play with you... Or anybody else...

There was a point in the past where a bounty was split between wing mates.

i.e. 100,000 credits split between 4 commanders in wing meant 25,000 credits per commander.

This has changed and everyone now gets the full bounty offered.

This could be a reason people don't accept invites. They may not know it's been updated.

@OP - Do you actually say hi and ask whether they would like to wing up? Or do you simply send ninja invites?

If the latter, I would flatly reject and consider you an ill-mannered nuissance.

1. They were busy fighting and didn't notice the invite.

2. They were busy fighting while wearing a VR headset and neither noticed the invite nor can touch-type to reply.

3. They already have a full wing.

4. They're waiting for their friends who are transferring their warships to wing up with them.

5. They're testing themselves.

6. They're Playing Their Way.

7. They don't want to.

8. They don't know how - especially true of Quince/Rhea/Smeaton Noobacondas.

9. They're just finishing off a magazine and leaving.

10. They're trying to get the largest Credit-to-Ammo ratio possible and only want to get the last hit to maximize their own profits at the expense of anyone else.

That's the first 10 off the top of my head.

Why would I wing up with a stranger? Could be one of those who goes complaining about getting a bounty when shoting the police, I can do without being winged with someone like that.
