Why do some players decline wing invite in res sites?

A while back, somebody asked me about unlocking whichever engineer wants stuff mining.
I was mining Painite at the time and I said I'd be quite happy to hand some over.
So, we agreed to meet.
I showed up in my Corvette and they showed up in a Cutter.
To swap 10 units of Painite.

Lol that must have been quite a sight to see. Was it a peaceful trade?

Not a complaint, just genuinely curious. It makes sense, to me at least, to wing up and both get a bounty as opposed to fighting over getting the last hit. I'm just wondering if some players actually prefer to compete over bounties instead of being in a wing....

You might be a murder hobo.

If I am not going to be on for much longer, or I am waiting for other Cmdrs to come on line to wing up with (ie prearranged) but I would message to explain.

I havent seen anyone in this thread mentioning it, so I'll do it:

Has anyone considered the fact that there might be pilots out there with some router/upnp/NAT/ configurations?

A friend of mine is forced to play elite behind some very jittery internet connection with router settings he can not influence..

I can see him going on and offline on my friendlist.. and most times we can chat. But every time when I do send him an invite to wing.... he seems to decline.

When I asked him over comms, why he's constantly declining all the time, he replied that he doesnt even get to see an invite from me. So the "decline" is just the timeout on my side happening.

The workaround we found for this partivular problem is, that HE has to invite ME into the wing - this has been working all the time since we found that out.

TLDR:
Pilots declining your invites need not neccessarily be impolite - they might just have a s̶h̶i̶t̶t̶y̶ biowasty internet connection.

The shared combat rank thing is a valid enough reason, I suppose. But all the "I don't trust other Commanders" or "what if they turn on me" type reasons simply beg the question: why play in Open if you have no intention of interacting with other Commanders? The whole premise seems oxymoronic to me.

I just jumped in to a Res at the current CG, in Mobius.
I followed a CMDR in an Anaconda, and purposely went to a different Res to them, as not to invade.

I was alone for a while, then an FDL showed up, so I sent a wing invite.

Nadda. Lol

The FDL then just zoomed around trying to kill steal from me. And despite my best efforts, I failed to get him wanted by flying in the line of fire. Lol

We stole a few of each others kills, then I got bored of competing, and switched to solo. Lol
I was also getting some major rubber banding.

It turns out, Solo is the cure to all of EDs problems!

I don't get it. "I fly my way. I trust no one. What if something bad happens". I thought CMDR's in open are there because they are brave and DGAF!

Bravo-Sierra. Even the players who say that do not believe it, they do not seek to wing-up with their own kind, unless it is to pick on newbies and cripples.

I play in Open most times, for me it can have multiple reasons to turn down a wing request:
(However I hardly get wing requests)

- I have limited time left to play;
- I'm not in a sociable mood;
- I'm not in the right ship;
- I'm drunk... :D

I am at least, and I trust no one.

I play Open to show how good I am - that me in an lightly engineered T7 can avoid your gank, get to the CG station and hopefully taunt you a bit on the way in.

I play to avoid you even getting an interdiction tether on me in supercruise because my superior mad skillz mean you can't get behind me.

I play to frustrate those who see a T7 and think I'm easy meat - especially gimbal noobs.

I'm not always successful, but I enjoy it.

Trust no one, have a plan B, fly smart, fly Open.

Well that's commendable. I like to suprise CMDR's in my highly engineered V4 as well.

Old EvE habit : trust no one, discard any unexpected group invite, trust no one and finally be paranoiac : trust no one.
And since so many old EvE players are playing open i'll add : trust no one.

Because I don't like it. I prefer to play not in a wing. Playing in a wing means no more fun for me than not in a wing.

So, why do I play in open? Because I like to play in open. I prefer to play in open over solo or other modes.

But why is that?

Actually I thought its a game, where I can relax and where I do not have to justify why I did this or that or not. Even not justifying it to me, so why to anybody else?

Interacting with other people I don't know in a wing is not part of my relaxing experience I wish to have. But the tension and excitement I have when somebody interdicts me is a very welcome and, all-in-all, relaxing interaction.

Probably been said. Sometimes folks just want to be left alone.

Why not just enjoy having another hollow square about?

Once you start getting a bunch of friends and get on a discord, it becomes even harder to be left alone sometimes. It might be a Monday night, you just want to chill and do your thing. You keep discord off, fire up a Netflix show, and login. Next thing you know "Hey, dude!" and you're like "fffffffffffffffffffffffff......"

Don't get me wrong, I like all of my friends and acquaintances, but sometimes you just wanna chill and do your thing, and it's always nice to see another hollow square floating around, even if you're not in the mood to interact with it.

I usually don't wing up with randos, maybe with the exception after some chatting. When I want some co-op play I wing up with friends.

HOWEVER, I shared many REZ sites with other CMDRs and usually it isn't that much of a problem. I always check what the other guy is doing before I open up fire on a target to avoid kill stealing. Usually we get along just fine.
If somebody is blatantly KSing I just switch to another site or solo.

I will invite any CMDR to my wing who is allied to my superpower. I will also scan their ship. If they use Torpedoes, chances are they will Kill on Sight.

The vast majority of CMDRs are nice people in Open. I suggest trusting a little more!

I like do my bounties within wings as you get 1/2, 1/3 or 1/4 of the bounty. I can make 2 million with no problems and be able to make 4 million within two sections of bounty hunting. Just last week, I was able to make 8 million with a wing of three that included the 2 million that I already had.
