Why do YOU play In Open?

I only ever play in Open. Because there is nothing I can do in "PvE " that I can't do in Open AND because I love the 'danger - wild west - age of piracy on the open seas' vibe in Open. I think that was what FDev was going for before the cry babies manipulated FDev to water down the game to the point of a stick safe space in space.

How's the 'traffic' on XBox? I've been tempted a couple of times to defect, though that would probably put me in Solo jail since I'm not paying for both PS4 and XBox online passes.

My understanding is that the active Xbox population is roughly the same as PS4 or very slightly higher (evidence: the participation rates for DW2 were roughly equal across consoles.)

You find players in all the usual places... Shinrarta, CGs, engineers, etc., but obviously nowhere near PC.

Open is the compete game, in my view. The unpredictabity is nice, and I've met some great people there.

Open has given me experiences that I wouldn't have otherwise had, like the time a buddy and I prevented a player from being pirated. We even RP'ed with the trader a bit and escorted him to the station.

The PvP has been great, too. Conflicts are so much spicier when you see enemy spaceships and not just influence ticks.

Like I said... it's the complete game.

Welcome back to the galaxy, CMDR o7

I play in Open because I enjoy the excitement of unknown dangers.

I play in part of a large PvE Private Group because I don't find unknown danger exciting, if on occasion I do want to fight against actual players I will arrange a meeting in another PG I am a member of.

To add some excitement. Sometimes I play Solo because I really want to relax and do my trucking in peace. Win an interdiction versus an NPC is easy, even in a T-9 so it is just relaxing and take a drink.

But even in the "dangerous" open, the attacks "just because" have only happened to me twice, the rest were guys who actually played the "Pirate role" or because I was acting against their BGS goals.

If I'm going to an Engineer or it is a CG I would switch to solo, albeit doing CG in Open is a little inspiring as you see other players doing the same than me for an established goal. The problem, of course, it is that CG is what attracts gankers... so, it is not often.

I play Open because i want to play a MMO space game, if it was solely a single player game, probably would not have interested me in the first place.

I see a lot of responses centered around "unknown threat" but with that much unknown threat, it seems it's now a known threat. What about the fun outside of the risk of being ganked?

Also, those of you who log into Solo to get past the "dangerous" parts are lying to yourselves. You're not playing in Open.

Open for the random CMDR encounters, both good and bad. Even gankers need targets!

Solo or Private for exploration, as no high-res screenies available in Open.

Only ever played in Solo; will only ever play in Solo. I've been a computer gamer for more than 30 years and MMOs simply hold no appeal to me. The joy of computer gaming was always that I didn't have to find someone else to play with/against. Also, from about 30 years ago it became apparent that there would always be a group of players who wanted nothing more than to ruin someone else's enjoyment.

Ultimately, it comes down to a simple trade-off: is the pleasure of having another commander give you an o7 worth the price of losing your ship, cargo, data? Not for me, although I fully understand the other point of view, and I wish you well. If I want ED social engagement, I get that from the forums.

Powerplay or BGS from solo mode is a boring grind competition that nobody wins. No thanks, I already have a job. The only "competition" is who has the most free time or no life.

Competition when both sides play Open is a real war with people shooting at one another. Blockades mean something, and you can both prevent and be prevented from taking an action that someone else disagrees with. A much smaller faction with more skill has a better chance against a larger one full of cream puff grinders.

Fair play to you CMDR o7

I'd restart the game from scratch if they had a completely separate and segregated Open Only universe, where factions, influence, and powerplay can only be affected from open. A universe where you can't go solo or private.

If you want to engineer then you have to deal with the people waiting there. This would be an ED game where you have to make friends and work together to win.

This would bring a ton of people back who are tired of the terrible solo mode mechanics. People who quit. People who have had enough of solo mode fifth column power play tactics.

It wouldn't break the "all modes equal" thing either. You have your own sandbox for other modes, and we would have ours. Why would any of you care what we do in ours if you don't want to play in it?

The saying is, "Never say never," but in this case I'll make an exception :p
