Why Does Everyone Use All-Caps For The Asp?

Maybe it's because the ASP ASPLODES! Seriously, I've been in the low intensity combat zone at Mat Zemlya this afternoon and if I even touch the ASP with my cannons they seem to detonate in a blaze of magnificence. I was going to pick one up, now I'm not so sure, at least not until I get some fire-retardant undergarments.

Have any ASP drivers noticed this before?

Can's help but add that using caps is considered shouting, so that would be in keeping on seeing an real snake?

It says ASP on the nameplate, that's good enough for me. (I've never noticed whether the other ships have all caps on their nameplates or not but I remember the ASP definitely does (I probably only noticed/remembered it because of all the previous 'why does everyone capitalise ASP threads)).

ASP ASP ASP ASP ASP ASP ASP ASP ASP!

I'm not sure - but I've been wondering Why Start Case Is So Popular These Days? ^^

Because it's the proper use for thread titles.

Another pet peeve of mine is the transition people have made in the last few years referring to companies and corporations as if they were plural, like "Frontier are hiring". It used to be that the proper way to refer to companies was as a single entity. "Frontier IS hiring."

The birds of prey and predator (mostly cat) names appeared in Frontier: Elite II, not the original Elite (some were from First Encounters but I don't remember which). Some versions of the original game had the Cougar but it wasn't present in the BBC B version (which was the first).

Ah, the wallowing in nostalgia :)

That's correct the 2nd and 3rd of ships are mostly from Frontier: Elite II and Frontier: First Encounters, which is what a lot of what Elite: Dangerous was based on (including the major factions, the Eagle, the detailed planetary physics, etc)

I wish they will eventually have as many ships as in FFE :)

It's not pronounced A-S-P. It's an Asp. Like the Egyptian Asp. The snake.

Most of Elite's ships are named after snakes, but not too many people seem to have made that connection.

this goes to show that some people just want to find things to argue about. even something is pointless and irreverent as this. I personally dont use the ASP so idc

As others have pointed out, an Asp is a snake. So there's no need to capitalise the word. But, as I hate the PYTHON so much, henceforth I shall capitalise the PYTHON every time I mention this horrible ship, the PYTHON.

It bothers me a fair bit, but I have learnt to cope with it after raising a similar thread to this myself a while back. Not sure why it should bother me so much, but it does :(

Considering that there are 5 other ships in the game named after snakes it is a bit odd to miss the connection.

At least it's not as bad as people writing MAC when they mean Mac, rather than Media Access Control. When people want the MAC address of a Mac, it all gets rather confusing if the other party is a tool :)

(The ASP cockpit doesn't look write on my MAC!!!one)

And... for the folks who are suprised/amazed/etc that people don't make the snake connection. Well until I played Elite I didn't know the Asp snake existed. And talk about connections all you like, unless you go off and research that information (most don't which is fine...) then you would not be expected to know.

Well, I would have expected most people to know that Cleopatra was supposed to have committed suicide by getting an Asp to bite her breast, quite a well known story.
