Why is the Cobra MkIV the best ship in Elite Dangerous?

I would just add a small correction - it was not pre-order exclusive. Everyone who purchased Horizons before certain date (which obviously includes pre-orders and LEP owners) got one.

I didn't pre-order anything and I do have Cobra Mk4 in my fleet. I rarely fly it though as it is too slow for a small ship. It does have some nice paintjobs available though.

i have one that is kitted out for mat gathering both normal and guardium.
The top centre hard point has a beam laser that is especially useful for charging pylons and taking out sentinels.
As a small ship with srv bay it can land very close to most sites though nit having a top mounted utility slot means no point defence against sentinel missiles

Because it is exclusive and many Cmdrs can not say the opposite.

Except it wasn’t exclusive, just time-locked. The Gnosis was Exclusive. The free Chrome Eagle paint job was more exclusive. And a cobra by any number is just a 1985 holdover.

I read : "The MK Cobra. IV is a ship unveiled at Gamescom 2015 by David Braben on August 5th, along with the Horizons extension. This ship is exclusive to players who have purchased Elite Dangerous Horizons, the first paid expansion of the game before February 2016. It has not been available since."

:)

The game itself is kind of a throwback anyway, and I'm generally fine with that, though of course I'm hoping to see more from it as well.

I resurrected mine recently due to the added module slots. I have the jump range up to 40ly with around 50t cargo, threw on Grade 5 DD's too. I still haven't figured out what this ship could really excel at. Maybe a medium-light mining vessel ??

Imagine all the discussions going on at Elite shipyards.

"I would like a test flight in a Cobra Mk4 please"

"Can I see your pilots federation license please, sir? No, sorry, your license was issued too late. Have you tried the Viper sir? Coffee?"

That anything like instant ramen? Might explain why I often like going exploring in a combat fitted Vulture, The Ronin, when I get the chance to get around to it.

I think you're on to something...

I like "shrimp," "chicken," and/or "oriental" flavors spiced up with fresh homegrown habanero or sometimes sriracha, and ginger, garlic, and lime.

The plot thickens.
