Why not just close open play fdev?

It´s sad that FD never found a solution for this meanwhile 6 year old problem. I bet besides the Offline-Mode that things like that prevented Elite from getting what it really deserved. One of hundred reasons I mean.

There is a solution. Spin up a server for everyone who wants open only and can't stand the idea of modes and seperate it from the rest of the game. Shouldn't take more than 1 server for the dozen or so people that will be on at the same time.

"If it was "fun" then it would already be a common occurrence."

Was it?
Is it?
That's plain stupid.

YOU DO NOT NEED TO LIKE IT.

Sorry Robert.

Who wants to play as a herd member for the sheepdogs to protect from the wolves?

You got that logic upside down. The people (herd) want protection (bodyguards, police) to increase their security, protect their lives and property. The bodyguards don't have a job unless the sheep employ them.

If it was "fun" then it would already be a common occurrence..... and Solo has always been just as much a part of the game as Private Groups and Open - as they were announced at the same time when the game design information was published at the beginning of the Kickstarter pitch.

Most MMOs do not add a solo-mode because MMO means Massively Multiplayer Online. Not Solo Player. You can play by yourself in an MMO, but you need to be more careful and that makes it more fun. Carebare single-player environments creates lazy gameplay where people just switch to the other mode to escape risks. If they want security they will join a guild, corp or stay in high security areas.

This is why ED feels more stale than true MMOs because many people play in solo or private groups.

There are many threads about this, Frontier won't change it though.

You really don't understand basic concepts like 'I'm 49 years old and perfectly capable of deciding what I want to do for myself thanks' do you? Bless.
...
Sad, but true :)

But try looking at it this way...

Even in real life one chooses who one spends one's leisure time with, pretty much, (unless one's favourite pastime is pub brawling and shouting invective to all and sundry) and playing this game follows the same rules, do what one wishes, and with whom one chooses.

Of course, if one's choice may cause vexation to those whose principal idea of entertainment is to inconvenience another... Well, that is a splendid, and delectable, side-effect to ones choice ;)

Look, if you don't understand why people don't play in Open, your attempts to persuade them will remain unsuccessful. Here's a clue: it's not because they're afraid of you. Other modes give them more of the game experience they want, that's all. To persuade, you need to think about offering other people a better game experience in Open.

People can play in solo mode, but It's not good for a true MMO experience. There are countless examples of real MMOs that don't have a solo mode and it works out, it creates more cooperation, team play. A real MMO is by design not a solo-game. It's about encouraging Massively Multiplayer experiences Online. ED is not a true MMO though. It's a hybrid single-player with multiplayer features.

But this game does have not just one, but 3 modes, two of which are multiplayer - one of the multiplayer modes doesn't even have those who one doesn't wish to associate with in - isn't that splendid?

There even may be a possibility that those who spurn open may not even be bothered by the MMO part... Odd how other players can interpret, or even ignore, that - in truth - pretty meaningless badge, if they so choose.

I ride a motorcycle, smoke 20 cigarettes a day and my partner is from Glasgow.

Not all of us play Elite for the risk, some of us get that elsewhere.

Never go to see one of those travelling fortune teller ladies, it might not be good news.... ;)

I wish there was Solo mode for this forum because only my opinion matters anyway.

You and the OP both... ;)

But which one talksh like thish...?
