PvP Why PvP is not popular in Elite Dangerous?

Are you saying all those are PvP only?

So speaks the world that can see in colour to the person who can only see in black and white.

At some point you realise this is pretty much pointless - with many they'll accept the concept of colour existing, but some won't and will scream at you about how irrelevant this concept of colours clashing or how having colour schemes is all wasted time when all that matters is bright and dark in ALL CAPS for years.

Then when you manage to assemble a package of reasoning that makes sense you'll be reported for badgering and trolling as even the forums are just more black and white action when everything is black and white.

Finally it becomes clear why they're quite so angry - everyone else clocked that there was no explaining red, green and blue to them long ago and stopped trying.

As a matter of fact. They do.

Almost all Balancing in this game comes from people that play in open and PVPers. BECAUSE THEY KNOW THEY GAME, and can back it up with video evidence, Screen shots and MATH.

We just dont go exploring, have grade 2 engineers and run our mouth about things we dont know about.

PvPers who about PvP, nontheless, ED isn't only about PvP. Your average PvPer probably doesn't have an exploration ship, doesn't have travelled much more than 5000 Ly out into the void and I don't see a reason to believe they know much about trading either or BGS, especially after the decline of the SDC in-game faction.

I think we could do with a few less all caps sentences please, there's no need to shout.

Looks around at the ED cockpit UI, sees that everything is formatted using ALL CAPS.

Imagines that TJ must have a hell of a time dealing with that. ;)

Actually, think about it. To PVP these guys have to grind so much more than a PVE player. The grind mountain, alone should have broken PVP years ago...and yet...these folks keep on going. At least now, with all the mega money missions, the PVP folks will now have less to do...and their boredom will increase. Until, at some point, they realize that all was for naught...and they get mad and leave.

Hi, I'm Red Neck, and I'm a recovering Mobian......

As one who had started in 1.1 open and only ever went to PG/Solo to get a pad at a CG or dope trade route I ended up going to PG exclusivity when a buddy of mine got ganked and went there and I didn't want to leave him hanging as I got him into the game. He left the game but I stayed as I made other friends in there and winged up a lot. Now starting last year i made a chang....everything I do now is for PVP or to support my PVP.

So let's see if I can boil it down to 3 core reasons that will feed the rest of them, from my experience and observations, and also from someone who does NOT enjoy exploring....so those guys may truly have other considerations that do not boil down to these three....

1 it's expensive to do full time. I blew through 25 FDL rebuys in one weekend courtesy of the Nomads (who by they way helped a lot along the way to learn the ropes of PvP and and not trying to shame them they have been fun to fight with and against)...thats just a tad over 100million credits.
Sure you can "just jump away" but when your fsd is super-penned by focused fire from 4 been dun got gud PVPers....yeah better hit the jump countdown before your shields go down which is kinda doushey tbh.

2 skill gap... I have PVE dudes tell me all the time "man your gud!" Then tell me "dude you too humble" when I say naw not really.... I'm a trash PvP pilot. So what's that tell you when Pve dudes think I'm gud.... the road from git gud to got gud is not just a quick detour from pve.

3 engineers. This is self explanatory... and only exacerbates the skill gap. Will be better in 3.0 depending on how fast some of these grandfathered modules work out...but I still doubt I'll see any other 5PA ferdies besides mine as it's been a fine tuning process to make it work. It just needs a better pilot and it would probably be OP as hell considering my terrible 30-50% accuracy sometimes lol.

If you the weak man in the wing and can be removed quickly, your prime focus. After a while that gets old as hell.

Just my 2 cents as one who's been on both sides.

Humm.....I offer exception...
I've been to Sag A, I have a exploration ship. I don't like exploration but I did go Sag A, and have Exploration Leet...granted those passenger missions to the core helped with that.
The PvP hub also is running bgs in the adopted system...which is currently being wrecked by pve farm boys....

Other than the more than 5k part, the rest doesn't apply to me or others I know who PvP.
Might be because we all Power Play. But we have fleets, heavily engineered cus that's what PvPers do.
You need the explorer to unlock your dd5's and ferry yourself between engineers, war zones/hotpots.
A BGS ship for Combat, one for trade/pax. Gotta win those small faction wars to keep your economy strong.
Trade ships to make back all that money we spend on Reactive Amour and the occasional rebuys.

Between the PvE Ships, and their dedicated PvP equivalents, PvPers have the most varied fleets.
Because PvPers play in Open more than anyone, and we know how to design our ships to survive in that environment.

No way to know if that is true or not.

Since the hub really is not well known...nor is the system...I would think there could be issues with people playing the BGS while they are unaware/don't care about the BGS consequences. PVP people have to 'do things' to make money....so they could be doing those 'things' to the hubs detriment.

Which should go some way to explaining why the exploits are so hotly debated.

Combat was meant to be rare and meaningful, but PvP in shoot'em'up mode demands ships are throwaway and death is consequence free.

The two things are incompatible as currently played.

ps. TJ - that avatar lol *applause*

Are you kidding, they havnt went anywhere.

They are ALL still here. Sorry bust your bubble buddy.

Again, people assuming and talking trash. Without knowing or having any experience at all.

As a matter of fact they have grown in the past few months with new members.

Most PVP players are better PVE players than you will EVER be.. Fact!

To be a PVP player, you are forced to be the best PVE player. Which to be honest is really not hard at all.
Set the bar low for PVE skill requirement, PVP players stomp that on the way to PVP greatness.

5000ly out? You know most of us have PVP'ed in Colonia as well right?

That isn't a 'fact' in the slightest, and even if it was how on earth would you know how good a PVE player is at, you know, PVE? And by the way using the latest exploit, screw up by Frontier, error in code or learning to copy something off Youtube doesn't qualify as 'better' - fact.

Yeah I started with power play for that "meaningful" PvP. When 3 wings of power play PvP pilots get routed out of a system by 6 full time PvP pilots....you realise that the only place power play has for a PvP pilot is to avoid the C&P fines lol

I am part of a group of the best PwE players in Elite. Fact.

I said average PvPer, besides, I'm a former PvPer but I left it for exploration.

Oh, and I'd like to know why SDC didn't manage to sustain their faction.

Oh, and I'd like to know why SDC didn't manage to sustain their faction.

You'd have to ask them, from what I can tell they dont care about the BGS in the current state. Like a lot of other factions out there.

There is no reward for winning systems, There is no PVP involved like there is supposed to be. So they probably said screw it.

But thats just my assumption. You'd have to ask them. They probably feel the same way I do.

This is true. It’s all the PvEing that keeps me from doing PvP.
I rather cruice around, than doing stuff that leads to something.
If i PvP, it’s in CQC. I’m way to lazy for any serious outfitting.

If there weren’t any internal defensive modules in the game, I might have bothered.

After all, PvP is quite fun in games where it works. :)

...and yet amusingly enough, when I was preparing for my first proper exploration trip many moons ago I consulted a very helpful guide on reddit for some tips on ship preparation. Here it is; take note of the author...
