Modes Why trade in open ?

Interesting side question: With the broken way the game is, why even trade?

I've been doing a bit of BGS work this week, as well as CG running.

The difference is ridiculous. I can earn 4-6 million credits in less than an hour doing four missions for a faction, as opposed to the pittance I make on each cargo run where the demand value has been artificially inflated.

It seems ridiculous that I can earn 1.5 million creds for transporting 40t of someone elses goods, when I barely if lucky make into the tens of thousands profit.

A couple of thoughts.

Personally, I would prefer to see only one mode, open. Now before someone casts the first stone, I do have a reason.

I see it like this. If we only had open, there would be nowhere to "hide" (please do not take this as an insult, its a play option that's perfectly reasonable to take). The whole game dynamic would be very different.

Imagine a situation where a bunch of black hatted PvP types decided to blockade Lave. Lone traders / mission runners would stand little chance against them, however the word would go out. Players who need to get to Lave could group up, forming convoys, hire protection (other PvP'rs who have white hats) and bust the blockade. Maybe the Insurance Company (Bank of Zeonce?) would lower premiums for convoy runners....

There could be other emergent gameplay (say like a protection wing, along the same lines as the Fuel / Repair Rats). Probably lots of other directions would be explored that I've not even considered. I suppose I think it would encourage a more cooperative game.
Just a thought....

Imagine a situation where....

you dream all this wonderful stuff to do on PC / Mac;

  • and Xbox and Playstation players fly right past you and you never see them.
  • and you have too many people in your group, so the instance system puts everyone else in other instances to you
  • and people on bad internet connections (or throttled connections) can fly right past and you'll never see them
  • and people just block you from their games and carry on as if you've never existed

Why do GSPs always ignore that the game is heavily instanced to start with, that's before anyone uses any mode system or block feature?

Just play like I do and adjust your tactics/build accordingly.

You should play like I do

There you go. All I need to do is not play the game the way I like to, but play it like you do.

We're talking about a hypothetical open only mode and how to survive it. All I'm saying as an open mode player who plays by himself, all that a player needs to do is when they realise somethings not working, adjust accordingly.

I'm interested to know, have you used the same build and tactics since day one? Or have you adjusted accordingly as the new stuffs rolled out/AI changed/meta evolved?

I've tried exploring. Really didn't suit me due to the complete lack of interaction/engagement required.

When I play games, I do them to engage my mind, not to have something running in the background and diverting 50% or more of my attention to watching Netflix.

Now what if I don't want to group up? Sucks to be me?

That's the question though. The game would have to evolve methods to allow lone traders / explorers etc. Maybe sacrifice weapons to allow booster packs (can't be chased by a PvP'r with no weapons) or sensor shields, exotic hull plating. Maybe allow a simpler stealth mode that isn't so reliant on heat dynamics. Right now FDev don't have to worry about it, they rely on solo / private PvE modes to allow play. Just a thought....

I'm not an explorer, not sure where you got the from. I'm a trader.
A-B-A for hours on end, day after day. With a break at weekends for a bit of Hi RES action.
For a special treat I'll go do some rare trades, but I save that excitement for my birthday normally.

Only time I've left the bubble was for Hutton Truckers events. Which involved hauling Hutton Mugs to Sag A*

Oh right, so you can tell someone else (Ziggy) how to play but are not so keen on being told how to play.

Indeed, there already is a working solution. What we're talking about is: lets abandon this working solution and replace it with something that doesn't solve anything, but introduces a whole lot of issues.

But Ziggy, it does solve something.

It fixes their desire for blood and salt.
Because right now, they are going hungry.

:D

What about my desire for salt? These modes are an endless source of comedy.

It is such a sweet spectacle to see these fellers use their superiour minds in these discussions :)

My 2p's worth, I have always played in open and primarily in trading. I have never once gone out with a ship with no sheilds / weapons - that's just nuts. As you may know I have recently had a significant loss and so I'm in a way starting all over again. Would I change my "style of play" - nope. It's not done me wrong yet and for the love of some deity I'll be slogging again. It's be good to know of any decent trade runs from where I'm at but prior to starting over I was getting the odd 7-10mil trade missions so back to the grind for me.

I play it my way just as the song suggests and I'm content until I can build up enough to start getting into the story and saving the galaxy from Thyroids.

V2k.
