desperately needing some action and breaking the cycle of repetition in this game. At some time when you have everything, you will play only open.
I read so many people complain about getting attacked , so why trade in open ? Is there an advantage I do not see ?
No advantage. Some people simply consider it fun to encounter an (extremely rare) player pirate, and are willing to put up with the annoying ganks to do so. If it's not your cup of tea, simply trade in a mode that suits your preferences. That is, after all, why we have different modes.
The whole "being attacked in Open and then complaining about it" thing is because:
- Frontier made Open the default mode choice
- Frontier doesn't warn people that Open includes PvP
- Frontier generates missions based on server the server you logged into, as opposed to having them persist with your character, so mode switching is a thing. After board flipping a few dozen times, some people forget what mode they're in, until they suddenly see an open rectangle.
When you add in the fact that some players:
- Want people to prove them content, but are unwilling to return the favor
- Are unwilling to attack players who enjoy direct PvP and are equipped for it, because they'll get slaughtered
- Are unable to kill players who enjoy being opposed, and are equipped to survive an attack
You get the current situation in Open: a small number of players, who can't cut it in actual PvP, spend their time searching for soft targets who unknowingly stumble into Open, and then make the experience so unpleasant that many players don't bother playing in Open. Rather than fun PvP against a skilled opponents, they'd rather GSP (ganks single players)
With most of the player base having fun in Solo and Private Groups, and most players in Open not being easy to kill, these GSPies are finding it hard to have fun. Lacking easy prey, they then have the nerve to complain about how nobody wants to "play" with them, and want Frontier to force more players into Open.
I've been playing online games, often with Open PvP, for over 20 years now. Considering the damage GSPies have done in the past, I find the salt generated by the GSPie community over Frontier's brilliant tri-mode system (patent pending) to particularly delicious.

Ultima Online Pkers forcing the creation of non-open "shard" and screaming about the sudden lack of targets? I remember that though I can't remember the shard names.
Edit: It won't let me rep you again yet so +1000 lbs of Cubeo Bacon ^,^
The "advantage" some people see is they can get player interaction. If by player interaction you are looking to have your trade ship ripped to shreds in about 5-10 seconds by someone flying a big ship or Python (for example) armed with PACs modified with screening shell, or one of the other insane damage output builds you can make.
There are good pirates out there though, that will provide you with some fun and emergent gameplay. However, they are few and far between. Its a roll of the dice as to which players you meet.
Otherwise most players you will see won't talk to you or perhaps if you are lucky you might get sent an "o7 CMDR".
Up to you whether you think that is worth it.
I suppose one advantage might be is you might find a group of traders who you can wing up with, and do trade runs together. But you could do that in PG as well. Still, a wing of traders is safer than going alone. Especially perhaps if you add some teeth to your trade ships. Probably only possible if you have a group of friends to play with or can find a player group that does this sort of thing.

The 3 modes are beautiful. Excellent in every way.if you think the 3 modes are so great
It's the game you bought, deal with it.(they are not, its a horrible design which completely unbalances the game, rendering one mode having all the risks with the same rewards as the private modes)
Correction, they didn't want to make it Open only.PP failed because they couldn't make it open only for the whines of the backers.
Then don't manipulate the BGS.BGS manipulation is none other than pve token grind.
And you base this on absolutely nothing, thread after thread, post after post.3 modes is the most bizzare, horrendous and unbalanced design for a multiplayer open world game.
Trading in Open in safety, is completely easy. To do so however, requires some skill and to sacrifice a little credits per hour.
Trading in Open may also require a particular personality type, one that enjoys meeting other people and wants a roller coaster experience. Playing in Solo may appeal to people with a more introverted personality who want to relax. Neither mode is better than the other.
Being different to you does not necessarily mean inferior to you.
Cheers, Phos.
It's not being introverted. I just personally don't like hanging out with gangbangers or other low-forehead types that I'd just as soon shoot as look at. And since I'm not interested in going to prison for doing a favor for society, I'll just refrain from dealing with them unless they threaten me or mine.
Life imitating art, why hang out with lower life forms in a game when I don't want or need to?![]()
Eh, to be fair, Phos did say "may appeal to" not "only appeals to".![]()
